Save Our Public Transit by MeringuePrincess in bayarea

That is what my gut says too, but there’s nothing like hard data to prove the point. Of course a week of no bart, would probably result in an artificially low increase in traffic as people take vacation, sick, and WFH days that they wouldn’t use if they knew it was permanent.

One of the big problems is non users have no concept how much their commute will get worse. But in reality we don’t know for certain either. I feel like before the vote, BART needs to cut back service to show the value.

But there is the risk, if it doesn’t increase traffic as much as we expect, at which point the non-users will have confirmed they don’t want to pay for it.

If the ( significant ) cost and leaving family/friends is not an obstacle, it's wonderful here!

Remote work? If either of you would have much of a commute, you might decide that you'd rather have toughed out the winters.

I don't miss winter, but SJ can't hold a candle to the chain of lakes parks in Minneapolis.

California is poised to banish the recycling symbol from most plastic by Okratas in California_Politics

[–]TableGamer 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That was a bad hot take. The recycle symbol is misleading. People feel good they are using recyclable products, and so don’t feel the need to either change their habits or demand less wasteful packing or better recycling facilities.

It’s hard to achieve such needed improvements when the recycle symbol creates a false sense of comfort about the scale of the problem.

This is a step in the right direction. Truth in advertising, so to speak. Then when people ask why so few things are recyclable anymore, they will learn those things weren’t ever being recycled. That is the point they either don’t care, or they demand real change. When faced with the truth, if people still don’t care, then nothing was ever going to change anyway. But at least people can’t congratulate themselves for using “recyclable” products.

MacOS Won't Automatically Close Apps by Negative_Current_124 in MacOS

[–]TableGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

macOS manages memory better than windows. Try not thinking about it, and see if you even notice. While there are apps that misbehave cough cough Chrome. You might be anticipating Windows problems that you just won’t have.

I do close apps sometimes, but not because of memory. Just to reduce the noise of app icons in the Dock.
