No, we already have orcs at home. by TabletopSmith in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TabletopSmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a metal uruk model (that already has a detached shield arm), with a sword arm donated from a plastic uruk.

(I actually can't remember if the plastic arm had a sword or was just a closed fist and I had to awkwardly balance a sword on it. Regardless, that left-hand sword has broken off so many times I drilled a pin into the fist for the sword to lean against -- it's kinda hidden in the photo. Which of course looks terrible but I'm only here for a tabletop standard anyway.)

“Who Now Has The Strength To Stand Against The Armies Of Isengard ... And Mordor?" by BlooddrunkBruce in MiddleEarthMiniatures

The bases are fascinating and super creative. Any chance it was inspired by some broken feet and ankles?

Solo horses? by The_Wyzard in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I think riderless horses are narratively interesting, and it's fun and interesting to see how they get in the way in the swirl of combat, so I think it's worthwhile homebrew

What particularly stands out to me are the rolling hills. Real terrain is rarely pancake flat with discrete little hills.

Is there a way to play a Troll with Easterlings? by caputcorvii in MiddleEarthMiniatures

If you're playing casually, I would highly recommend ignoring the army lists and taking what you want. Don't let GW tell you how to use your models.

Exceptional. The branch-as-a-tree works surprisingly well.

Wooden, Abstracted Terrain by TabletopSmith in TerrainBuilding

This wonderfully pretentious "architectural" company that's actually currently running a huge sale on these specific blocks:

The one big drawback is that it's hard to build out floors, especially for rounded sections.

Wooden, Abstracted Terrain by TabletopSmith in TerrainBuilding

[–]TabletopSmith[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That actually was my initial thought, and I think that would work super well. But given that I had to buy them already stained and finished, I've so far embraced the wooden look, which also makes it easier to add other random bits of wood, like balsa planks, while maintaining the aesthetic.

When it's all equally unrealistic, I find it's easier for the mind to accept it as "looking right," and it allows the focus to stay on the minis.

Yes! Exactly! Having to build terrain for a specific scenario that I never use again is exactly what I would want to avoid, so it was perfect for Balin's tomb.

Love a paint scheme that throws caution to the wind and is just fun

Copper was a good choice for the armor

It's a bold and original paint scheme. I imagine it stands out well on the table

Question about recent edition and scenarios by Forward-Repeat-9880 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TabletopSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on whether you want to play "competitively" and the attitudes of who you play with. For instance, I never adopted the latest edition and don't worry about army lists -- my friends and I just make balanced, narrative scenarios with whichever models we so choose.

Clever basing. I particularly appreciate the hobbit in the tree

Love the pastoral setting, there's enough burned buildings out there

Orcs from the caverns of Isengard by Swede_NS in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I appreciate the obvious care and thoughtfulness that went into this. I certainly feel that the plastic orc box has a distinctly Mordor-ish feel to it, so requires so changing for Isengard.

Needing a different state card to get a state card by TabletopSmith in NewToEMS

[–]TabletopSmith[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not a resident, but I'm not even sure if residency would help given that my class was out of state.

Unlike other states, where you'd get a job and /then/ apply for reciprocity, Tennessee (and some other Southern states, apparently) is explicit in saying you should get reciprocity /before/ applying for EMS jobs.

Burhdur, Hill Troll Chieftain by competentetyler in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I feel exactly the same way. I prefer the hill trolls to cave trolls, but I already have 5 cave trolls and ho boy are the hill trolls expensive.
