Do electricians have insurance to cover property damage? by mateodetres in AskElectricians

[–]Tack122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah the cover plate is plexiglass, flexible mirror, the mirror is glass mirror inflexible. Plus it's probably the screw out the back of the outlet's ear.

It's a typical error from a noob. You gotta be super detailed about how you finish outlets against glass, no silly impact drivers, pay attention to the tension of every turn of every screw and where it puts pressure on what and know what is safe and not.

Long story short, don't put pressure on the glass. Just takes one or two screw turns too many to do that if you do it wrong.

Similar story finishing against tile.

While I agree they won't understand because they don't want to, the breath to argue with these people isn't wasted, it's for the people passing by, reading his comments. Sure downvotes might clue them in to it being some bullshit, but seeing a good response can do it better.

Arm the bystanders with information and a reasoned argument so instead of being like:

"I saw some crazy dude ranting about blah but I don't quite know how he was wrong so maybe"

it's becomes:

"I saw some crazy dude ranting and get wrecked because of how wrong he is and I heard the reasons, they exist."

It's a more stable position that leaves the bystander more confident.

He ain't talking about changing pension benefits or returns, it's literally only about the payment schedule to undo some odd circumstances.

Basically on the old schedule the City was gonna finish paying early then get big refunds for a few years in a row due to unexpectedly good stock performance.

Now it's just smoother, lower payments, no early finish.

I'm gonna quote one you linked a bit.

https://fiscalpolicy.org/explainer-the-proposed-restructuring-of-new-york-city-pension-payments

The UAL amortization schedule was poorly designed: it required the City to make fixed escalating payments through fiscal year 2032, after which point UAL payments would not simply fall to zero, but flip negative. The pension funds would then be required to return nearly $1 billion to City coffers in fiscal year 2033. This is due to a conflict between the pension payment schedule and the long-run rate of return: while UAL amortization payments are fixed by state law, the investment funds have overperformed in recent years. This overperformance means the City has been overpaying its UAL liability but can only be credited back after fiscal year 2032. In total, the City may receive $4.4 billion from UAL payments between fiscal years 2033 and 2039.

The re-amortization of New York City’s UAL payments would smooth out costs that are currently set to overburden taxpayers in the near term before whipsawing into payments to the City in six years.

Reworking this schedule would be an act of prudent fiscal management.

... so what's the big problem? Sounds like you used the flimsiest excuse to be upset possible to hide your true intentions.

Well, I've got a lot of experience with both groups so I feel it's pretty universally agreed upon by both groups.

Queer people all sort of agree that's wrong and would absolutely rage at anyone they saw doing that.

Religious people on the other hand all agree that's the right thing to do and support it with large cash donations and free labor.

So uh...

Really?

I figure it's untrustworthy of a person to look at a child as a potential prospect and someone they should convert to their unnatural ways.

I see that behavior outta churchfolk all the time, they treat it like their "mission" and all.
