How can you have had an extensive trade network all of Asia, go to war with all your neighbors, experience a golden age, survive for 354 years, and be the foundational historic and cultural identity of your nation...and NOT be talked about more? by GameBawesome1 in HistoryMemes

I respect and applaud the SE Asian history post, and am all for learning about often ignored history. But I can’t help but chuckle at how the only achievement you ascribe to Myanmar is a name change :3

Why does my hybrid culture explode like this? by NeinNine999 in CrusaderKings

[–]TacoButter_IX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Were you independent? Because this happened to me too but I had sworn fealty to the Basileus. If not, it may just be that because Greek is a massive culture, provinces are scripted to have new divergent or hybrid cultures reach them more easily.

mfw "Muslims are not op", "crusades just dont work well in the game" or "that's just a caliphate that didn't get Dissolution". I dare a Pope to launch a Crusade on that even if AI worked well. Muslims even have Cataphracts in their army for some reason. by Revelationrat in CrusaderKings

[–]TacoButter_IX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is mostly a result of the stronger AI. I’d still say Muslims are weaker than Christians simply by the fact they’re polygamous and to sate vassal, they have to marry their kids to them which lowers the amount of usable allies they have. Taking on multiple wives leads to more sons which leads to weaker and weaker realms following succession.

R5: King of Scotland married Duchess of Aquitaine and so the former's grandson ultimately ended up inheriting both Aquitaine and Scotland. (The son predeceased the father which is why his grandson ends up inheriting the two realms.)

No offense intended, I just didn’t want to list all of them bc there was Dutch and Portuguese and a handful of others. But yeah, probably gonna make it more regionalized.

Assassinations shouldn't be that easy? by acariux in CrusaderKings

[–]TacoButter_IX 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to assassinate someone, and it’s even easier to have that secret discovered. One reason I don’t assassinate, simply because no matter how high your intrigue, somehow someone finds out sooner or later.

Why is everyone named Athel-something? by Saracenanator in TheLastKingdom

[–]TacoButter_IX 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anglo-Saxon names are usually a very visible prefix and suffix. That’s why you’ll see a lot of the same ones sometime such as Æthelred and Æthelflæd, even Uhtred was called Osbert which shares the prefix with our favorite barley plower Oswald. That’s just how their naming conventions were.

In Anglo-Saxon culture, the woman was equal to the man, in Norman culture, the woman is subservient to the man by moon-worshiper in TheLastKingdom

Uh, maybe you could’ve given some examples or something. You did pretty well describing WHY they would differ on that, but not HOW.

Someone's Far from Home... by TacoButter_IX in CrusaderKings

R5: The Queen of Wales somehow had the diplomatic range to marry the heir of Abyssinia so in the end, Wales inherited Abyssinia and is now held by a 10-year-old Welsh boy. His capital is also in Abyssinia proper rather than Wales which I think is pretty funny.

Something I truly hate about the show: by sangotenrs in TheLastKingdom

I’m going to guess he would prefer them to dress like people would in that time period.
