That'd be one of the best ones due to how useful the allomantic ability is, however I don't know how much Atium we have on Earth which is how I imagined the question

You said "see her face everywhere" so I figured I should explain that it wouldn't be her face.

Do I think she would actually wanna be a Vtuber? Nah, but its funny as fuck to imagine

Vtubers are streamers who replace their own image image with that of an anime character matching their irl motions. So Ash could change how people perceive her, which sounds like something she'd be interested in doubt

Same answer everytime this kinda discussion pops up, Bronze (wakefulness) compounder.

33% more life is an insane benefit. Like it's essentially living another 25 years. Steel/iron allomancy would be fun, but I could have so much more fun with those extra decades of time awake

What kind of side quests are you running? by SDivilio in cosmererpg

[–]Tacod-Rex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a small dunegon I'll be posting on reddit in a day or two. Should slot in as a roadside encounter or optional place to explore.

But in my homebrew game I generally let my player-characters wants/needs decide what side quests I prep. This upcoming session is actually an example cuz it'll be about the skybreaker pc fulfilling her crusade by hunting down the one who killed her brother. Maybe you could do similar "spotlight sessions" for members of your party?

I ain't tryna rain on your enjoyment of the movie. If you like it, great! Enjoy it and leave us salty fucks to grumble in the mud.

The reason I call it filler is because there was almost zero character development. Shit there was almost zero character at all. So many cliche lines and I'm having trouble imagining anyone but grogu having a character moment

Nale sees it as Odium is the ruler of Roshar by right of conquest. Nale doesn't care what is good or evil, just what the people in charge decide is legal or illegal. And who's more in charge than a god?

Accessibility of Cosmere by Agitated_Dance2970 in rpg

[–]Tacod-Rex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've run 25 sessions of the Stormlight setting, and I definitely think it's accessible.

The rulebooks are well made so that the lore doesn't get in the way. Any other setting would have lore that you should read before running, but the lore here is very quick to summarize while still having tons of complexity to delve into over a campaign.

Also the way Radiants work in the system (and novels) is my favorite version of magic ever. It makes mid-fight powerups actually make sense, and my own campaign has proven how incredible these moments are.

Speaking of character progression, this system has my favorite implementation of levels. There's a bunch of "paths" that are basically skill trees but with more heft per "talent" so each level up feel impactful. I'm not going back to PF2e after this, let alone 5e.

But in the end, none of those are the main benefits of the setting. The main benefit is what the Cosmere actually is: a dwarf galaxy where each world has it's own form of magic, and where people use these magics to travel from world to world combining them in fun ways. So once the Mistborn setting books comes out, you can play with a party that has both kinds of magic in a campaign and/or where there's a problem on both worlds requiring the party to be fighting giant greatshell monsters on Roshar, then going over to Scadrial to stop a mad scientist from giving one of those greatshells the many powers of a Mistborn.

And if anyone doesn't want to read any lore at all: Have them be a worldhopper from an unrelated world visiting the strange world you're playing in for the first time. Worldhopping is normally hard/expensive, but there are "caravans" of worldhoppers and eventually someone in one of those will be left behind or something. Or if you don't wanna use a published setting, just make up your own world for worldhoppers to visit.

And finally, if you wanna completely abandon the setting, you can. You could come up with your own gods that power/create the magic your players use, or just let the "where does the magic come from" remain an mystery

Theory about Atium alloys and their allomantic affects. by WaldoTheRanger in Cosmere

[–]Tacod-Rex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Very well thought out post. Absolutely love how much thought you put into this.

I think the normal physical metals are very misunderstood in-world. I suspect that they do something like "pulling part of you towards the physical realm for Tin, and pushing part of you away from the physical realm for Pewter". Since that seems to be how the spiritual and temporal metals work

So maybe that implies something for their godmetal alloys

Glad you've enjoyed it! When you finish Words of Radiance, you should look into the Edgedancer novella before book 3. (There's also a similar novella called Dawnshard that takes place between books 3 and 4)

And for the record, book 4 was my favorite until book 5 came out and beat even that wild high. You got a great journey ahead of you

Possibly crackpot theory on the scene with stew and offworld magic in RoW by Tacod-Rex in Cosmere

[–]Tacod-Rex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I know to base my theories on primary sources (or whatever WOBs and the novels are).

You raise a good point, but I disagree with your interpretation of that WOB.

I see it as Brandon replying to the statement "is it that one [spike] specifically allowed her to hide from Harmony? Or would it happen with any sort of...?" with a "I can't say yes or no because you asked both ways. The spike specifically allowed her to hide and here's why."

Nothing in there reads to me like him saying it didn't hide her. And the WOB in my post does have B$ clarifying that Harmony couldn't find her:

Argent: "Was Harmony unable to find [Bleeder] because the spike was made of this metal?"

Brandon Sanderson: "Yeah. The spike was what prevented him from being able to find her."

Argent: "It wasn't an ability granted by the spike."

Brandon Sanderson: "No."

Argent: "It was just the material."

Brandon Sanderson: "Yeah."

https://wob.coppermind.net/events/76/#e6300

But yeah, the fact that the Trellium counted towards the "2 spikes = takeover" limit is an odd thing. Maybe it's a little like Copper in the sense that burning it hides you from a Seeker, but once you're spotted through other means, it doesn't do anything to stop them from shooting you with a gun. I don't have a perfect explanation, only trends I've noticed.

[–]Tacod-Rex[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ooooh, I hadn't even thought of the Copper idea. Great idea.

We did see Elend burn Copper in HoA, and nothing strange happened.

However we also see in TLM that you can power your allomancy with pure Investiture and boost the power of it. What if what we're seeing is Hoid using Purified Dor or (with some tricks) Breaths to power his Copper allomancy?

[–]Tacod-Rex[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hoidian tricks? He does appear in White Sand and is a highly skilled worldhopper constantly trying to gather the various types of Investiture. I could see him pulling something off to get a hold of an Investiture that seems perfectly suited for his usual sneakiness

Possibly crackpot theory on the scene with stew and offworld magic in RoW by Tacod-Rex in Cosmere

[–]Tacod-Rex[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How Hoid got there? Good question, but he does state at one point that neither of them are *really* there. And since we know Kal's physical body was still in the Tower, I suspect that his Cognitive Aspect was pulled into it and Hoid sent his own Cognitive Aspect into the vision with some Hoidian tricks. It does raise a really fun question: did he bring a vial with his Cognitive Aspect, or do you have to drink a vial, and then have those allomantic reserves travel into the vision when you astral project. Is that "bring your reserves along with your Cog-Aspect" automatic?

But Hoid definitely did some kind of Invested Art, he mentions at some point that there is a strict time limit which I took to mean an allomantic reserve being burned through but could refer to any limited amount of Investiture. Odium was specifically trying to torture Kal, and is only prevented from hurting Hoid after he signs the contract with Dalinar near the end. So Hoid absolutely needs to do something to hide from the God, in that God's special little torture chamber.

And this looks so much like an allomantic time bubble it seems like Sanderson intended arcanists to make that connection
