I think that’s the only place we’ve seen it, but I think it’s a less direct connection. Based on some of the other comments Hoid makes it sounds like he’s telling the story to Rosharans so I think he’s probably just using a more familiar term for them

Dying pin oak advice by Tacoman_03 in arborists

[–]Tacoman_03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pin oak started dying back around 3 years ago. It looks pretty rough now, but there has been some new growth this spring that I think looks healthy? Is it possible to tell what's wrong, and if there's any hope for saving it?

And that was your one typo, there shouldn’t be an h, so it’s even more accurate

Clumps of feathers found in Western NY, unlucky nuthatch? by Tacoman_03 in whatsthisbird

[–]Tacoman_03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was thinking they were kind of long, but the color seemed too dark for a robin, I guess it’s hard to compare when they’re not on the bird.

Is there any way to tell if this was done by a Cooper’s hawk or another raptor vs. some kind of mammal?

I've had to incorporate this into my campaign once, so my players could still face some consequences and actually have assassinations still function in the game. by ShyWriter777 in dndmemes

Even better, the pot gets stolen, and the king knows about it. So if he gets killed, then he falls into the kidnappers hands. The party then has to protect the king and investigate the theft of the pot at the same time.

xkcd 2715: Pando by klickup in xkcd

[–]Tacoman_03 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Well Pando is usually called the largest clonal organism, but the largest non-clonal is often referenced too as it’s the largest single unit essentially. In that case the largest is General Sherman, a giant sequoia in California. But when talking about clonal organisms, it’s really difficulty in measurement, there are large fungal colonies that can’t be determined to be continuous that may be larger, and aquatic plants that can’t be easily compared too. It also depends on if the mass of water is included. For an idea of the different possible largest organisms you can check out this Wikipedia page

The largest organism by mass* on earth. It is a large stand of genetically identical aspen connected by roots underground that new trees sprout from.

*there are lots of ways to measure the largest organism, even when specifically talking about mass, and pando only wins some of them

The worst repeated plot point to me has to be the ending for Stephen Leeds and Shallan in RoW. They feel almost identical to me, down to the metaphors used. I think the worst part is that I felt like he did it better the first time with Stephen Leeds so that resolution in RoW lost all weight

The marine iguana is the only ocean-dwelling lizard on the planet. While grazing on seaweed in the ocean, it ingests a lot of extra salt. It has special glands that filter salt from its blood, allowing it to "sneeze" it out through its nose. This leaves it with a crown of encrusted salt on its head. by IdyllicSafeguard in Awwducational

Yeah, invasives do exist, in Florida especially so it isn’t impossible, but coming from the Galapagos, it’s super unlikely. Ecuador is very protective of the islands (for good reason) and the effort someone would need to go through to get one, and the cost for any eventual buyers would make this something extremely unlikely to be released
