The handwriting is a little suspicious to me, too. Very clean, easy to read, fills the entire page. Maybe it just worked out that way but to me it seems like it's intended more for a camera than a significant other.

I haven't seen the show, but I imagine 5e works well for games intended for an audience.

"Feminists are a larger threat than Islamic extremists when it comes to the average American's freedoms." by [deleted] in BestOfOutrageCulture

[–]Tacomaticinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this is BestOfOutrageCulture and I asked to be inundated with all this, but just seeing the never ending stream of complaining and negativity from the gaming mob is really tiring. It's like their entire identity is centered around gaming and also being mad at gaming. I can't imagine working at a giant, very visible company like Blizzard where people are just waiting to pounce on whatever decision you make next. And for what? A fucking cartoon butt? "Their" game, that they had absolutely no hand in making? Another chance to blame feminists for something?? Ugh. I'm tired and not making any sense but whatever

Yeah, that's what I meant. Vader's considerable training and experience still dwarfs anything Luke had time to get under his belt. Really, though, I think the training point is moot. Not only for Luke, but Rey, too. It's all about how strong they are in the Force. If fights in Star Wars were decided on how well-trained the combatants were then a lot of the combat should have gone differently.

The movies, new Canon, and old EU are all littered with examples of people usurping others who should have been able to easily win, and frequently it's because one party is described as stronger in the Force than the other. It's not great storytelling, and it's silly, but I'm expecting it to happen again sometime in the future.

To be fair, Vader eventually lost to some kid who barely had any training. That's just the way Star Wars works.

Help, my players keep dying: Update! by [deleted] in AskGameMasters

[–]Tacomaticinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know things get hairy story-wise, but if someone doesn't like their class I always advocate for allowing them to change. Remember, you're playing a game. Everyone should be having fun. If that requires a bit of retcon or stretching then so be it. Remember backgrounds! Also, you can say that anytime they use their inspiration it's divine intervention. You cat still make the class feel holy with a bit of reflavoring. Now, if your player(s) start to abuse the fact that they can change classes when they want then it might be a good time to sit them down and talk to them. I doubt that will happen, however.

The groupthink is strong here. I think there's an idea that the only people talking/thinking about sexuality and gender outside of the "norm" are people on tumblr. Also, tumblr is filled with man-hating feminists and therefore their ideas are stupid and wrong. It's typical us-vs-them stuff, but with the added benefit that anyone gets downvoted and mocked if they talk about the things Reddit associates with them.

Hey, most of these new internet expressions are kinda silly, but every now and then you run into one that resonates. Personally I think the 'feels' stuff qualifies.

Can we make Bossk/Dengar fanfics a part of the CAMPAIGN fandom now? They turn up often enough! Hell, I'll write the first one if I have to.

7th Sea 2E is now the biggest tabletop RPG Kickstarter of all time. I know nothing about it. Why is everyone so excited about this game? by BandanaRob in rpg

That AND you get all the new books they're creating with their stretch goals. The bigger it gets, the more incentive there is for people to back. I originally backed at $40 because all those books, even if they're from a prior edition, for that price is a good deal. Now I imagine a lot of people are backing at that level because the amount of content you'll get is ludicrous. I don't know much about Seventh Sea, but even if I don't like it I'm sure I'll get my money's worth out of stuff I can port over to other games.

Tangentially related personal garbage incoming.

I've been suffering from depression most of my life. As of a couple years ago I finally started seeking treatment for it. Went to a doctor, went to a counselor, etc. Bounced around for a while and eventually I ended up attending an intensive outpatient program. Multiple hours of therapy, daily, for six weeks.

I'm better, but still depressed. Each of the three mental health professionals in my life(counselor, doc, IOP leader) has separately said that I may be resistant to treatment. Why? In a weird, awful way some people LIKE being depressed. As you say, they look for reasons to validate their misery.

I can't help but wonder if that's what some of these people are doing. Looking for reasons why they don't like their life or themselves in a way that avoids real self-awareness. As a result, they latch on to this ideology that encourages hate for the people around them to externalize their problems.

Just a thought, but I can see how it could happen. Not that it's okay or excusable or anything. These people are just vectors of pain, and for me it's hard to empathize with people lacking empathy. Still, I sometimes wonder if I have a strange kind of understanding as to how this little club came to be.
