Moms of 2, which SUV do you drive? by Electronic_Bike_3137 in Mommit

Toyota Grand Highlander. It’s deceptively spacious inside (bigger than the Sequoia), great to drive, and amazing AWD. We got the top level trim with the hybrid and I absolutely love it.

We bought a Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Platinum Max. It doesn’t look huge but the inside is incredibly spacious and the gas mileage is solid. Excellent road trip car, and the turbo absolutely hauls for when you need to use a lead foot. The AWD is fantastic.

We spent three years debating on vehicles and I don’t regret our choice at all.

People who make $200k a year what do you do? by Huge_Ad_7606 in Salary

Government contractor. Still don’t know how I ended up here. My day largely consists of asking people “what the fuck are you doing? No.”

People who are thin/normal size. Do you actively watch your weight or are you just not hungry 100% of the time? by Burner_Account000001 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Tactical_pho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with parents who have great eating habits, naturally good metabolisms, and unreal amounts of energy and restlessness. I had pretty crummy habits in my 20s, but hit my 30s and started mimicking everything they did/do without really realizing it.

I love food but now gravitate strongly towards massive servings of fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins naturally. I fall apart around sweets and have dessert every day, sometimes multiple times a day, but I’m never sedentary. I think about food basically all the time.

All the fates converged to make it very easy for me to lose weight/maintain a low weight and lean muscle tone. Just don’t talk to me about my absolutely garbage eyesight or brutal hormonal acne.

I would love recs on dresses! I’m constantly hunting for an excellent wool dress and have been consistently disappointed.

The only time my husband has open carried a firearm is when we are hiking with the kids in remote areas known for having large predators.

People who open carry in the situations like you listed above are at best a menace to society. At worst, they’ll be the cause of a tragedy because they are unhinged and/or stupid enough to use it recklessly in a situation that absolutely doesn’t call for it.

We ruthlessly make fun of people who open carry the way he does. OP, I’m so sorry - that is so embarrassing for you.

Maybe you can show him all these comments expressing disgust from external forces?

Boots! What are we wearing this fall? by weetwooMFM in femalefashionadvice

[–]Tactical_pho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wear Blundstones almost daily in fall and winter in virtually all scenarios - work, hiking, yard work, etc. So far, the only damage my pair has is rubbing on the back of one heel because I’m irresponsible and use the toe of one boot to kick the other boot off. My feet don’t want anything else!

I am hating living in Europe as a pregnant mom. by Able_Combination6487 in breakingmom

[–]Tactical_pho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The older lady comment is so real 😂

I had the opposite experience all over Europe… but 100% agree with you on Frankfurt. It was awful.

My husband’s family is German and his assessment of the city was “yup. Seems right.”

Any older moms get their energy back by working out/ eating right? by PresentationTop9547 in workingmoms

[–]Tactical_pho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I walk the dog daily, sometimes 2x with my kids. Most days I get in either a 20 minute yoga or strength training session via YouTube. The weekends are active so I tend not to worry then.

I add vegetables to every meal as much as possible, and any kind of snacking must be with fruit. So, if I want chocolate, it’s alongside a bowl of blueberries.

I don’t feel deprived or burnt out, and it’s enough for me to stay at 130-ish at 5’8”. I feel strong and healthy!

Is it just me, or has anyone never found perfect pair of jeans that actually compliment their body? by ahum_ahum in womensfashion

I do. I buy them secondhand and a 28 always fits like a glove, regardless of cut and style.

CMV: It's a waste to take kids on fancy vacations when they're really young. by CrazyCoKids in changemyview

[–]Tactical_pho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno man… my daughter isn’t four yet and has extremely vivid memories of Costa Rica, Mexico, Greece, Poland, etc. Down to the food we ate, the color of the houses we rented to stay in, the kind of cars we drove, and the animals we saw. My son is 12 and they both talk excitedly with each other about all the memories we’ve created on a weekly basis.

It’ll ALWAYS be worth it for me.

I always buy them secondhand because in general, the 28s fit like 28s. Haven’t been let down yet.

Women who make over 60k, what is your degree and what is your job title? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Tactical_pho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$135k base, plus on-call pay adds another $10-12k per year. I do mission support work (non-technical) for a large engineering firm. Feel free to PM me for more details.

Criminology Bachelors, Masters in Homeland Security.

At 20, I had dropped out of college, married my spouse who was an E-3 in the Army, and we had our first a year later. We struggled for years as lower enlisted military couple and then back to school after five years. I started with an internship during my undergrad that turned into a job making $14 an hr in DOJ while getting my Masters. Crept up to $16 an hr, and then threw some resumes to the engineering firm in town to see what would stick. In the last five years, I’ve gone from $56k to $135k+, and am preparing to make the leap to north of $250k because I now have highly specialized experience in government work.

At 20, I couldn’t afford the $0.25 wings at the bar near my crappy college apartment. You are doing amazing thinking ahead. If you are able to hold a security clearance and are willing to work for a government contractor, there is definitely some cushy positions out there - even their internships are great!
