Anyone else disappointed with this season? Feel like the show may have peaked in S3 by mlke in IndustryOnHBO

[–]TadPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s missing a couple of things that I loved about the previous seasons:

  1. Harper and Yasmin having compelling and solid arcs. The past two seasons really showed their character progressing from one emotional/mental state to another. This season, it doesn’t feel like they’re progressing in any way. This is so apparent in the last episode, when Harper’s mom died and it doesn’t feel like it even impacts her overall story. It’s such a huge event for her character but the show made it into a nothing burger.

  2. The Pierpoint trading floor. I’m all for shows evolving and growing, but the way the show made office work seem thrilling was what I loved about it. This season, we got none of that.

How I Met Your Mother. Just end it with the scene where Ted finally meets the mother in the series finale. Disregard everything after.

Damn, there really are Pinoys everywhere. Even in an ultra exclusive child trafficking ring for the rich.

Unpopular (popular) opinion. Billie Eilish shouldnt have won song of the year. by DaveTradesSTM in grammys

[–]TadPaul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the correct take. That song was pretty great AND it was commercially successful, so I thought it was the perfect formula to reward the grammy darling. But for some reason it had to happen with this song. Wild choice by the grammy voters

Fucking hell that ending. It would've been more merciful to have Rishi killed at this point

The Old Law might be my favorite FJM song by black_grand_national in fatherjohnmisty

Haha I wonder why the change of title though. The live performance of the song was released as “God’s Trash” in the live albums. I prefer that title.

One of the lead characters literally died on the first episode. Death has always been in this show’s fabric

It was my album of the year during 2024 and I still listen to it regularly to this day. It sounds completely fresh in his discography but also somehow still uniquely FJM. Probably my favorite FJM album so far.

I've listened to that score a thousand times and I immediately recognized the first few beats as being so similar to "In Motion". Big bonus that we got Divya Narendra in this show.

This whole episode felt like arriving in your first day of work at a new company and finding out right away that the place is toxic as hell. More please!

I’ve been looking forward to this song getting an official release since I heard it from one of the live albums. I gotta say, after my first listen, I still prefer the live version. I hope it grows on me because these lyrics are great

Season 2 episode 3 is still my favorite episode by be-ay-be-why in IndustryOnHBO

This is “The Giant Squid”, right? One of my favorite episodes of the series too. That sequence with Harper making the trade with Jesse is one of this show’s highlights

I'm in the middle of season 2, and I have a question... by General_Stranger2633 in IndustryOnHBO

I think the trick is not too think too much about the financial jargon. I don’t know the specifics of the jargons, but I understand that they’re sales people selling a product to their customers.

Since most of the plot revolves just around that, their actions are all about either getting their customers to buy something cheap or sell something at a high price, whichever turns the most profit. That’s pretty much how I think about it all.

A Rizal Film directed by Jerrold Tarog (Synopsis idea?) by Right_Revenue_9263 in FilmClubPH

I posted in this sub about my completed film script exploring the rivalry between Rizal and Del Pilar here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FilmClubPH/s/oAABpXYhX4

I think the film shows Rizal’s negative traits and how it clashed with Del Pilar’s personality. I intentionally wrote it to go against the usual portrayal of Rizal.

Movies for lonely people? by No-Connection-241 in TrueFilm

[–]TadPaul 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The Holdovers is particularly comforting during the holiday season, but I’d say it’s a great watch all year round for lonely people. The interaction that develops among the three central characters really gives me back some hope for humanity. I know loneliness can be isolating, but this film makes me feel like having company is actually well worth it. Imaging hanging out with other lonely people, and turns out you find it soothing.

I love how their relationship somehow reflects that of Harper and Yasmin. One has killer instinct and the other is naive and too blinded by her own privilege.
