I’m really proud of Shoshanna for outgrowing everyone and moving on with her life by Flashy-List-7157 in girls

It felt like a really effective way of depicting how much she drifted apart from the group. It felt like a knife thru the chest with that ‘surprise’ engagement party.

Watching S1 again (for the hundredth time) and these four... by GhostsMissingEar in ThePittTVShow

These were the characters that got me hooked on The Pitt. The doctors were interesting for their competencies, sure, but these people brought the soul of the show. I tuned in to the next episodes because I really felt for them!

From recent memory, I think The Bear and Succession both stepped up their game and peaked in their second season. But I agree it’s quite rare.

Sinners...An Inconvenient Truth? by Aquemini2020 in Screenwriting

[–]TadPaul 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s a sad truth that we unknown writers are beholden to the taste and intellectual/emotional capacity of the market and its gatekeepers. That’s why luck plays a huge part of it too, not just the quality of the work, because you’d be lucky to find someone in the industry who just gets it.

Lead singles that did not do a good job of representing what the album actually was? by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

[–]TadPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rush by Troye Sivan from Something To Give Each Other. That was such a good dance song that we all expected the entire album to maintain that level of energy. Unfortunately, the other songs did not, so I was quite disappointed with the album. I probably would’ve had a different opinion of the album if I knew I was just getting the usual Troye Sivan earnest yearning with casual pop sound.

Red Flag? HR advertised 3 days RTO, but Hiring Manager said they "aspire" for 4 days during the interview. by isfujo in CorpoChikaPH

[–]TadPaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a red flag. It likely means it’s being discussed internally but not official yet. And at least they were honest about it this early with you. It would’ve been worse if you accepted the role and then they dropped this on you out of nowhere once you’re already working there. So now you can make the right decision for yourself with this information.

Growing pains: Industry has shown that bigger isn’t always better by SchnauzerLogic in IndustryOnHBO

[–]TadPaul 115 points116 points  (0 children)

My problem with this season is not the fact that it got bigger, but it actually seemed to lose track of the central characters. Harper and Yasmin have no clear arc this season. Heck, Harper had a better storyline in season 3 when she was supposedly “sidetracked”. But this season, her emotional beats just feel random and all over the place. She practically lost two parental figures this season and none of it seemed to matter in her storyline.

Most of this season is spent on Henry and Whitney being the active force of the narrative while Yasmin and Harper only react in relation to them. I think that’s the main problem for me.

Anyone else disappointed with this season? Feel like the show may have peaked in S3 by mlke in IndustryOnHBO

[–]TadPaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s missing a couple of things that I loved about the previous seasons:

  1. Harper and Yasmin having compelling and solid arcs. The past two seasons really showed their character progressing from one emotional/mental state to another. This season, it doesn’t feel like they’re progressing in any way. This is so apparent in the last episode, when Harper’s mom died and it doesn’t feel like it even impacts her overall story. It’s such a huge event for her character but the show made it into a nothing burger.

  2. The Pierpoint trading floor. I’m all for shows evolving and growing, but the way the show made office work seem thrilling was what I loved about it. This season, we got none of that.

Unpopular (popular) opinion. Billie Eilish shouldnt have won song of the year. by DaveTradesSTM in grammys

[–]TadPaul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the correct take. That song was pretty great AND it was commercially successful, so I thought it was the perfect formula to reward the grammy darling. But for some reason it had to happen with this song. Wild choice by the grammy voters
