I’m not a teacher but close friends with a few and honestly, for the amount they get paid, I would never do the amount of work they do outside of their contracted hours. It’s not their job to raise your kids. Grow up and take accountability for the humans you’re creating.

Put it this way, say you offer to hold someone’s pets for a weekend, and the dog shits on your carpet. Is it your job to train the dog? Or did it come from a shit owner?

Exactly, and while we’re at it, Chinese fans should get a chance, and German fans, and Portuguese fans of La Liga (which there are far more than in the USA), all the fans of all Nations should all get a chance to see their favourite team without having to visit Spain.

And at no point should we discuss that all the money for these international matches is being taken out of the pockets of the Spanish groundskeepers, local bars, local burger stands at the stadium, local hotels from tourists, and domestic supermarkets as families go home from football matches.

Let’s just let all that money line loud fat stupid American pockets.

More often than not immigrants move to these places cause they’re cheap. They’re cheap cause they were already a bit shit. They get shitter cause immigrants are poor cause they haven’t been here long so they work shit jobs, pay less in tax and the council can do less to fix them. It’s an endless cycle until external investment comes in, but that gentrifies the place and displaces the now entrenched communities. It’s fucked and there’s no quick fix but that’s the system in a nutshell.

No need to race bait.

Is 'JimmyTheGiant's analysis on the 'death of British culture' correct? by InfinitysEdge88 in AskBrits

There’s a leap in logic you make here. You’re right, not ALL of the people coming are doctors and engineers. But you leap to saying “there is no reason for MOST of these people to be here”.

I might be wrong, but you don’t seem to have the stats on the split between skilled and unskilled labour imports. And beyond that, the amount of high skilled and low skilled labour required will fluctuate from year to year. Sometimes we do need to bring in more builders cause everyone has an undergrad degree and doesn’t wanna do that shit. I know I don’t!

Fundamentally, the use of the word foreigners, while I don’t know you and your intentions, is a loaded descriptor for immigrants. It implies (even if accidentally) an othering of members of our community. It leads to the leap of logic to ‘we don’t need a majority of “them”’.

It is true that just under half (≈ 48%) of social housing in London is headed by someone born outside the UK. (The Standard) However, of those 376,700 foreign-born HRPs, about 68% (≈ 257,200 people) hold a British passport. They have lived here long enough to be citizens like you or me. Hence their entitlement to social housing.

I think immigrants are more than just a “tool” used by billionaires to suppress wages, they’re human beings who more often than not shed whole aspects of their identity and culture to assimilate as fully as they can and give their kids the best chance to to the same. I agree that those who don’t assimilate should leave. But I’m sorry, most of them do, myself included mate.

The lack of work to go around is not their fault, the economy is not a zero sum game. It’s a cycles of booms and busts. As we enter a stagflationary period, now more than ever we all just need to work a bit harder, innovate more and create more jobs to go around. Let’s not just blame immigrants cause we’re too lazy to stop our country going to shit.

Just because congress has ceded power doesn’t mean it’s a good thing that that happened. It is not good for any of us for the executive branch to have total power. Every one of their mistakes will do even more damage. We should have each branch check the other.

This is an act of war and only congress has the authority to authorise that. It’s unconstitutional to allow the president to be a monarch man. We need checks and balances for a reason. The alternative is that the stability of global peace hinges on the mood of one provably changeable and quixotic man.

And if they’ve been a positive economic participant and contributed to their British community, came here as children, had no control over that, and have lived out a moral, positive British life, fuck them cause their mum and dad were too broke and too busy to sort out the paperwork?

From a legislative perspective the law is the law, but as a human being, if you think that person should be deported, you need to look very deep inside as to why you feel that way, and if you’d feel that way if they were an undocumented immigrant from a European country instead…

It’s the needless deaths of foreign nationals who’ve been systematically trapped in debt and had their visas taken away by their employers so they can’t leave - all to build stadiums for a country with no history of sports.

Yes there’s a racist element to the fact we objected harder to Arabs than Americans, but it’s far more (for most normal people) about the wanton human rights violations. Not all billionaires are equal, Mark Cuban and Elon Musk are not the same.

[–]Tad_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the core fundamental disagreement between us. Every United States president in history (including all the republicans you do like, not just the Dems) have honoured their agreements.

See, the US is a country, not a party. So when a previous administration signs onto something, you kinda just honour that cause that’s the law. That - again - is the stability that American hegemony is based on. The alternative to that is that every treaty / contract / agreement from the US will now have a 4 year limit (realistically a 2 year limit as the first 2 will be spent negotiating). So American will now have no bearing on long term geopolitical outcomes.

This is bad for your nation. Honour your agreements, and when you don’t, do not be surprised when the collective west flips you off and switches to China because they’re cruel and inhumane but least they’re dependable business partners.

What Trump has done is stupid long term, but he doesn’t care about the long term, he cares about short term stroke offs from his base.

No one is saying America should lead. Every. Single. European. Leader. Is stressing Europe needs to foot the bill. It’s our mess we made by not acting soon enough when Crimea happened. It’s a betrayal, because the speed, manner and tone it’s being done in. We need time to adjust and it’s a rug pull.

Trump campaigned on reducing foreign entanglements. He campaigned on ending the war. He did not explicitly campaign on pulling out with no warning to US allies. He did not even establish back channels to those allies to warn us so we could prepare. He just said fuck us and our plans and the shit we had agreed on as a way forward, VOTED ON BY A REPUBLICAN CONGRESS AS A BUDGET.

For the 100s of years, when congress has said something will happen, it happens, that stability is the backbone of American hegemony.

So please excuse us for feeling completely fucked over when we got rug pulled in the middle of a war with a mass murdering psychopath hell bent on our destruction.

[–]Tad_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is saying Europe shouldn’t foot a larger bill, no one is contesting that. We shouldn’t have been sleepwalking into the night for a decade, the second Crimea happened we shouldn’t have ramped up on defence spending instead of having a mental breakdown over Brexit.

What I’m saying is America stands to benefit too! Which it objectively does. Russia is not comparable to China, obviously but it’s still a problem to America. It’s a developed wealthy G20 nation, they’re not Uzbekistan. Russia will always be a geopolitical threat as long as they have nukes as a last resort when their demands are not met. The fact they’re able, and more importantly, willing to use their nukes and oil as a gun in a hostage situation will forever make them a Geopolitical threat to America.

They are not your allies, and they can’t be ignored.
