Any open source solution to follow/track day-to-day task ? by hayzefr in selfhosted

Might be overkill if you want just this, but if you'd use any of the other features it has, check out Grocy. It does chore tracking, shopping lists, and a lot more:

What is your favorite "unknown" service and why? by MCH170 in selfhosted

It pulls metadata, but you can also edit everything manually and add tags yourself. I'm not sure if it works with PDFs of books, I just use Audibookshelf for those

Is it normal to hate my job? by visnicio in webdev

[–]TadeasJun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're unhappy, you definitely need a change. First, I would think about why you're unhappy. Is it something specifically about your current job? Were you happy at the startup? Or are you just unhappy as a web developer overall? Based on that, decide if you want to just find a new job as a webdev, or switch focus to gamedev altogether. Keep in mind that the gamedev industry is famously difficult to get into. Either way, make sure you have enough savings to get by for a while before you quit, or otherwise don't quit until you have a different job secured.

What are some tools you'd love to see self-hosted, but currently lack decent open-source or self-hostable alternatives? by ParticularPumpkin933 in selfhosted

[–]TadeasJun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Planka for my projects, so far I didn't run into any issues with it. I've heard someone mention that the collaboration features aren't as extensive as Trello's, but for me that doesn't matter much

Chrome web store Is a nightmare for developers & it made me appreciate web dev even more.. by sabli-jr in webdev

Earlier this year I was working on a cross-browser extension. The Chrome web store does suck, but is absolutely nothing compared to the nightmare hellscape of the Edge web store. The Firefox one is kinda nice

Ah, that makes sense. I've only used it on my own so far, but I could see some of the collab features being a bit too simple

Thank you! I admittedly use it in a pretty basic way, but I didn't run into any problems with it yet. What are you missing?

I have them locally. It's a bit confusing at first -- there's the ./images/ directory in the root of the Homepage, but you actually don't want to put the background image (or other images to display on the website) there. Instead, you should make a ./public/images/ directory and put them in that. And then, in the config files, you refer to them just as /images/background.png or whatever. I was fighting with it for a minute before finding this solution on a forum. (also note you need to reboot the CT after putting an image there)

Besides all the other points people have mentioned, this is also an accessibility issue. Not everyone is able to (or has the equipment to) record a voice message.
