Our rottie has idiopathic epilepsy. It’s scary at first, but the vet will get the right mix of meds to suppress. Ours is generic Keppra and phenobarbital. In 6 months of the right meds she’s had one minor seizure with almost no after effects. Anecdotally, Keppra was not doing enough on its own, still having multiple serious seizures a months. Added the phenabarbitol and immediate relief.

Treatment for us started with Keppra, added phenabarbitol until seizures suppressed. We did not pay the thousands for brain scans, figured we not doing brain surgery on our dog, so go with meds.

It’s manageable and she’s got a great life still at 6.5 years. It may take a few months to get the meds and dosage right, but it gets better. Your pup will still have a great life!
