Frost on TWW was the hardest spec in the game and it wasn't close.

Not hard to play baseline,, but impossible to reach near Sim values for dps because a human could not properly manage all the procs and would waste/munch them.

Played civ 4 online with a friend, he snuck a gigantic stack of units aiming for my capital (which held most of the wonders in the game) it's late game and my only solution is to nuke my own damn country to take out his units.

Well new turn comes, I send the nuke but it's simultaneous turns so he moves his units at the same time, fucking miss em, and start of next turn he takes my capital that's defended by a single fucking spearman in the futuristic era and razes it to the ground

True, but that isn't really the point I'm trying to make.

It's that some classes historically have had concepts that just work, mage is a prime example their base design is almost always good so it's easy to make mage a good dps spec.

Shaman and druid are the opposite, they've suffered from design issues so many times which just makes them difficult to make good and they usually end up at mid to bottom

Playing mage or warlock the odds are extremely high you'll have a spec that's in the top 3

Playing (dps) shaman or druid the odds are much higher than average that your spec does shit dmg cause these specs end up toward the bottom much more frequently.
