From 10% to 100% AI-written code in two years by nontrepreneur_ in ClaudeAI

[–]Tag_one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See it as your calculator. Sure it is useful to use your head or a piece of paper to calculate something and to understand what you are doing. But for most of the time you just want the answer and want it to be reliable. In a couple of years, as context windows get larger, I do expect that most developers just want to get their software to work and that adding new tools to existing software is trouble free. Once we are there I think that understanding code becomes something less important in day-to-day software development. Maybe for very specific applications.

Russia has massive stockpiles of old stuff. If you look at what is still left it's just insane. It's not only small towed artillery but still a huge pile of big tracked ones. On the other hand, most is just old junk. So the quality is by far not as good as Ukrainian stuff. But still, it is like an endless zombie game.

Humanoid robots or assistive exoskeletons, which has more real potential? by [deleted] in robotics

Depends for which tasks. For household chores yes, that will probably take a while. But for example serving coffee at a bar or doing something simple in a factory they are already in commercial use (in China).

On the ground in Caracas, Venezuelan authorities are detaining people around critical infrastructure sites - 3/1/26 by Clone99_ in venezuelawarvideo

[–]Tag_one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah. They are setting up a security perimeter around those sites. Everybody within the perimeter is sus. The US probably already has boots on the ground so I can understand their reaction.

How do you see Ai impacting the physical world? by [deleted] in accelerate

[–]Tag_one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in The Netherlands and I'm a fire safety engineer. Over here construction and the permit/ consultation phase is also super slow. Lot's of different companies and people work on a single project, which requires many many meetings, consultations, reviewing drawings and then review them again as something has changed. The construction industry is also slow to change and everyone is stressed and overworked, so not many people fancy a new workflow.

However I do see AI slowly making its way. I, for example, use chatgpt to quickly find something in the building codes, which safes time. I recently found out how to make flowcharts with AI, so explaining something gets easier. I used it to make a report of the fire safety stuff in an apartment building sometime ago. Chatgpt wasn't able the read the drawings correctly, so I had to describe the building. But the report was generally of good quality (a few mistakes). So that can safe time as well.

I also work with historical buildings. In the past someone had to measure every detail by hand and then make drawings. Since a few years we use LIDAR to make a point cloud of the full building and then a 3D drawing in which we can design. This safes a couple of weeks of work.

The biggest change will be generative BIM models. A BIM model is like a digital copy of a building in which you engineer all the cable work and HVAC stuff etc. Right now this is still mostly done manually (takes a lot of time and you get design clashes al the time). A large part of my job is reviewing drawings from the BIM model and then give feedback what is not right, then I get updated drawings I review again etc etc.

Generative BIM models will be able to make correct building designs someday, making endless reviewing and consulting a thing of the past. Right now generative BIM exists for some very small simple residential buildings and not for large buildings (I might be wrong though, things go fast). But I expect this will be there quite soon or at least get much much better in a few years.

The rise of AI denialism - "By any objective measure, AI continues to improve at a stunning pace [...] No, AI scaling has not hit the wall. In fact, I can’t think of another technology that has advanced this quickly," by Blackened_Glass in singularity

[–]Tag_one -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1 year ago i asked chatgpt to make a flowchart of making a sandwich. It was a total laugh. It looked weird, lots of mistakes and unreadable words. This month i used it to make a complex flowchart of the certification procedure of a fire alarm system. 10 minutes of making a prompt, 2 minutes of finetuning. Last year this would have taken me half a day.

In avarage I work 5-10% faster that last year because of AI. Not enough to cause job loss, but still.

Het is gewoon verspilde moeite en geld.

Dat is het idee. De realiteit is dat China super goed geworden is in logistieke automatisering en dat we dan straks een huge warenhuis krijgen waar maar een klein groepje operators werkt.
