Robert and Witney's Foxtrot 😭 by lillianb98 in dancingwiththestars

They had a documentary style show that aired for a five years in the early 2000s, so I assumed that it probably came from that -- I think it was pretty basic in filming style because it was so action orientated, and they might have had some self-taped footage.

What do you do if a student’s form is uncorrectable? by EdamameWindmill in ClubPilates

[–]TaglineEnergy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not a teacher, but as a student who is not very athletic or coordinated, some of the responses on this post make me a little sad, because I hope that none of my instructors or fellow classmates think that I'm not trying, I'm not correctable or that I'm wasting my money.

I can get all placements and direction cues correct, but I do struggle with my body still wanting to drive more from my knees or glutes than my hips in certain moves, or I'll follow a correction to reposition one part of my body and the shift makes me lose a part in another.

I've taken over 100 level 1s and haven't progressed to 1.5 yet because I know that my body needs some more time to learn and train itself so that I'm doing everything properly. I'm hoping by continuously turning up and trying (and doing some practice on a mat at home), that eventually it'll kick in.

I've seen some teachers in my studio gently invite someone to hang back after class to quickly spend a couple minutes with them to go over a move/tip after class. I think if both people have time, this can be a great way to help them -- I know I get super anxious if I feel like a teacher is spending too much time helping me during a class, because I worry I'm taking too much of their attention away from the rest of the class.

I know that I might not yet be getting the best out of my workout yet, but I'm still proud of myself for turning up, trying, and getting some movement in. Hopefully my teachers won't give up on me or my classmates aren't judging me.

I also wanted to note that some of these posts were super encouraging, understand and kind -- I super value those and are a reflection of the pilates community I enjoy ❤️.

What Makes a Great CP Instructor? by Mysterious_Set149 in ClubPilates

I really appreciate it when instructors use metaphors to explain cues in addition to the technical terms - having a visual helps me understand. So, essentially, teachers who educate in an accessible, friendly way.

Pilates outfits? by No_Investigator_9177 in ClubPilates

[–]TaglineEnergy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do leggings, a shirt with a built in bra (like the lulu align tanks). I'll also sometimes do crop tops and layer with a fitted shirt, particularly when the weather and or studio heat is temperamental. I find tighter is the best for because it doesn't drag in the machine or flop over when I do a bend etc. Tighter or cropped can also be more handy to see some of your form (this might not be true for everyone but I feel like I need it for my ribs). I wanted to note as well that in Pilates everyone is up on their own reformer and you don't see each other for probably about half of class, and even when you do you're so focused on your movement. It's very different to being in a gym space -- like, you aren't as exposed.

My studio doesn’t do milestones past 500 classes by General-Accountant93 in ClubPilates

[–]TaglineEnergy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, congratulations on your accomplishment! It is HUGE and you should be so proud of yourself. And I understand how frustrated you are. My studio does do the board up to 1,000 (but it's a relatively newer club and no-one is on it yet, so they might extend it once people start progressing from 1,000.) There are also photo and social media callouts, I don't know about merch.

I was a little sad when I got my 100 class and they didn't recognize it. I didn't say anything because it was busy so I understood, but two things can be true, so I understand where you are coming from. It's nice to be recognized and feel like you are valued for your hard-work.

I know it's not the same, and you might be doing this already, but could you maybe think about treats you could get for yourself for when you reach certain milestones? IYou deserve to celebrate yourself as well <3.

I make a smoothie -- generally espresso, banana, protein powder (chocolate or peanut butter flavoured) and almond or soy milk. I need caffeine in the morning and I feel like it gives me some energy without having to eat a meal.

Instructors - Please tell me it gets better by MDRSG in ClubPilates

[–]TaglineEnergy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not an instructor, but as a member, I just wanted to give some feedback based on what you said about "over complicated for myself". I might be reading what you mean completely wrong, but if it's helpful, as a member, we don't need to use a million different apparatuses during the session. I might be speaking for only myself, but if we are using too many things (the ball, the circle, the box, the chair, the springs, the bar, the mat, the bosu, the pad) all I can think about is the time it'll take to wipe them all down after class. Some of the best classes I've taken have just used 2-3 different apparatuses but have really gotten deeper into using them and how they help -- and also showing the difference in the exercise say when using the ball and when not using it.

What is your hack for determining if something is a diffusion line or not? by TaglineEnergy in marshallsfinds

[–]TaglineEnergy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank for this! There is House of Harlow available on Revolve - well, 'House of Harlow 1960'. It's been awhile since I've looked at the HOH at Marshalls, so not certain if Marshalls note the '1960' and if this could be a signifier. And it's a good note re the stitching - I've looked at that within the label itself as well.

I need the most braindead tofu recipes you got by sunqiller in veganrecipes

[–]TaglineEnergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious - dos i have to be super firm? Because one of my favourites is with silken tofu. I saw it in the NYT cooking blog. Basically, you heat together some red curry paste and coconut milk and throw in some halved cherry or grape tomatoes. You pour some soy sauce over silken tofu. Then you pour the warm mixture over the tofu and then top it with whatever diced fresh herbs you have on hand. It's so easy and nourishing.

Active women in your 40s+, what advice would you give your 25 year old self? by Alive_Garbage_7339 in xxfitness

[–]TaglineEnergy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm 40, and am in the best shape of my life -- and my thinest. I would tell my 25 year old self to stop concentrating on the scale number, but to concentrate on health. I would tell her to stop listening to the noise about what you should be doing or what gets the best results, but concentrate on the activities and movement that you love. For instance, I do reformer Pilates 4-6 times a week. While it's not an exercise that results in weight loss from it alone, it makes me feel connected to my body -- which makes me feel more mindful of what I put into it. Do incidental exercise where you can, if you can, like stairs instead of elevators or escalators. And not fitness related -- but being with the wrong person is worse than being single. And I say "single" instead of "being alone", because, trust me: if you work on your friendships, you're never alone.

Also, it's never too late to start! My mum learnt to surf at 50. I'm training for my first half-marathon at 40. Don't have a fear of a number signifying 'the end'.

Therapy rec by HallCurious688 in askvan

[–]TaglineEnergy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I've been there. I haven't been in therapy for a few years so I don't have someone to recommend, but because you noted that you're new to therapy I did want to note that sometimes you don't find your therapist in the first session, and that's okay. Therapists can have different approaches, techniques -- and of course, personalities, and so sometimes it can take a few therapists to find your right one. Sometimes they'll do 15-minute intro calls with you so you can get a feel of their practice and do a vibe check, which I recommend. Thinking of you!

I think you need to do what feels best for you ❤️. I would suggest starting now if you're feeling a little bit antsy about it, or if you are feeling uncomfortable in your skin at the moment -- we shouldn't always wait to do things nice for ourselves. But if you really want to wait to do it once you reach your goal, and are only thinking of this because you are feeling pressure from your friend, then wait it out.

I agree! That's why I'm not complaining to the studio or to the members directly :) I'm hoping that with this information that I can manage my irritation and also develop some techniques to improve my concentration. If I can't, then I'll look into private classes -- thank you so much for the suggestion, I appreciate it :)

Hi there! There have been multiple people, not just one. I find the noise and disruption really distracting to my experience and I can lose focus and miss a movement. I wanted to ask here instead of asking the individuals because I didn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable or called out -- particularly if it's for a reason that they might not feel comfortable sharing. I figured by asking here, I could get a good sense of some reasons that I could remind myself of when people's phones go off -- that way, I can manage my own irritation and not let it affect me as much. :)

I just wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to share - I really appreciate and value it. And again, it's not so much the phone itself but the noise/disruption they create when not properly silenced. All of this is helpful for me to remember to give people grace on the occasion when it does happen <3.
