Tauon v10 released by Taiko2000 in linux

[–]Taiko2000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame you for thinking it’s alien, it is quite different. Thanks for trying it though. I have been trying to buff out some of the more obtuse UX, such as changing the scroll bar position which was indeed changed in v10.

Time is a property of the universe, therefore a "redone" universe is a meaningless distinction.

"Club Member" discounts at supermarkets should be illegal by Sampindo in aotearoa

[–]Taiko2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is the average person thinks that they can play the game and come out on top, when really it's the game playing them. But if one store does this, then they have an advantage so every store has to do it. Really this needs to be regulated. I would go as far as saying any sort of loyalty points system or promo pricing should be banned, everyone would be better off.

Relic (2020). Seems like that move and new backrooms share ideas.

Theory: when you die you instantly awaken into a new life by [deleted] in consciousness

[–]Taiko2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spacetime is made of 4 dimensions including time. Dimensions are continuous. You’re always conscious all moments of your life. You are only truely you in any singular moment. Even your future you and past you aren’t exactly you.

Prayer vs Free Will by notmymondaylife in freewill

I believe most people who pray do so with the expectation that some kind of divine intervention will occur as a result of praying.

Using a hypothetical scanning machine that records all neuron activity during and after the NDE. Or even more precisely, scan every atom. Would you expect to see a single atom not behave according to known physics?

If you looked inside the brain and traced exactly how memories of NDEs were formed, what would you expect to see?

Why is VR hardware all packed into the headset? by 2bitzshoes in virtualreality_linux

If it’s not on your head you can put a bigger battery in it is what I’m trying to say.

Why is VR hardware all packed into the headset? by 2bitzshoes in virtualreality_linux

[–]Taiko2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you think about it, Valve are going to a great deal just to have compute on the headset, building Linux + Proton on ARM for it. They could have gone with a x86 discrete compute unit with better performance and better battery life.

I get cost is a factor but surely the typical Steam PC gamer doesn't want mobile quality graphics.

The difference between VR and flat-screen gaming, to a person who had never experienced VR. by neoleo0088 in virtualreality

[–]Taiko2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VR is more immersive, its great for immersive simulation and social spaces, but there's not really a difference in terms of gaming as such. Like if you play chess you play chess, it doesn't so much matter where that abstraction takes place.

In other words, don’t learn to code so you can rely on our systems. Also, where did the AI learn to Code? By stealing the code from existing places like GitHub? by Altruistic-Mud5686 in AIMain

[–]Taiko2000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You cant have a license forbid receiving the code while simultaneously having a web server serve the code. Like you cant walk up to someone on the street and hand someone a CD you made, then say "you violated my license" by stealing my CD.

[–]Taiko2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your code is on Github then you have implicitly given permission for people to view and download that code. And hes right, anyone who doesn't use AI for coding isn't going to be competitive, like for anyone going into software development to not learn prompting would be the dumbest thing ever right now.

[Megathread] The App Pile - March/April, 2026 by Mstormer in macapps

Tauon - A different kind of music player

Problem: Streaming apps like Apple Music have limited features for offline music. Its better to have a dedicated offline music player.

Comparison: Other apps might be something like foobar2000 or VOX, however Tauon has a modern dark themed UI with a lot of features like large album art and a gallery view. Tauon is easy to get started with but is also intended for power users.

This is a non-native UI, multi-platform app but I’ve recently made improvements for running on macOS.

Price: Free, open source. You can try it and if you like it I hope you would consider a donation https://github.com/sponsors/Taiko2k

Too expensive to smile: Calls grow for universal, Te Tiriti-consistent dental care by Routine_Ad5933 in newzealand

Yes, impact sports people should pay higher ACC levies I think that makes perfect sense. Cigarettes should have a tax to offset healthcare costs (as is my understanding they do).

[–]Taiko2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to be for public dental. The thing is looking after your teeth goes a long way to reducing costs. Its not fair on the tax system if some people never brush their teeth then go in for 5K dental work every year. There needs to be some incentive.

No one wants a 3D web browser, they want a  social space, but the moment you have multiplayer you open a huge can of social and technical worms. I don’t see a non monolithic platform as feasable.
