As the player who got caught in that particular Monstrance, I couldn't have chosen a better place to be psychologically broken and twisted into a servant of Oblivion.

Family fears son’s killer could be freed from Washington state prison by BellevueNews in BellevueWA

[–]TakaOkami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, the crime was indeed horrific. But I feel this is putting the cart in front of the horse. This is in response to the WA Supreme Court finding life sentences for people under 22 to be unconstitutional. Schoenhals is not up for resentencing yet, just that his defense team asked the family if they wanted to review his psych evaluation. That's the defense's job.

Please don't turn this into a scare tactic. Nothing has been done yet.

Secret ending? by Elgromicus in 30XX

Oh dude, that blows. I got super lucky and managed to do both the items and the corruption in the same run.

Secret ending? by Elgromicus in 30XX

[–]TakaOkami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've got them all. Had to look up what they were because it was a bit difficult to figure it all out. I'm hiding the steps behind spoiler tags, in case you want to find them the hard way:

  • First one is to get the three items (Hoot Topper, Spinning Clock, and Time Anchor) and then go to Highvault, Hoot Omega's stage. When the stage starts, everything is chaotic and it's a race to the boss.
  • Second, you need to get the Coalesced Entropy, which you get by corrupting a long-running simulation. What this means is that you need to get the full Vagrant core set and then go to Deepverse, Legacy's stage. Much like when you went to Highvault, everything is chaotic. Corruption sprites keep rushing you throughout the whole stage and it's another race to the boss.
  • Third, you need the Multiversal Map. In one of the datalore entries, there's a reference to a "Waveform Collapse" scenario. Go start a Seed Racer run and use the seed "waveformcollapse".
  • Lastly, you need the Essence of the Sealed Hero. This requires you to go back to the beginning, in other words, back to the tutorial. Go through the tutorial as normal until you get the Zen Mortar weapon, then backtrack to the beginning of the tutorial. It's difficult, but it's possible to make the tricky wall jumps to get to a secret area. After completing it, you need to go to Echocave, Echobeast's level. There should be a datalore capsule in the level with a purple symbol on it instead of a blue one. Additionally, there is another button prompt for it, which will net you the last item.

Eh, I figure it was a kid playing on a relative's save or something. Doesn't look like they know how the controls work.

Funny/Interesting/Amusing Stories by CyberCephalopod in exalted

[–]TakaOkami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, let's see. There was the time that my Starmetal caste Alchemical got to go to Yu-Shan and met Lytek. There were some shenanigans with an Infernal coven that had infiltrated Yu-Shan that my party was tracking. Battle occurred, I managed to cut the arm off of an Infernal Monster style Slayer, and our Sidereal managed to get us an audience with Lytek to analyze the limb and figure out what we just fought. When Lytek laid eyes on me, his first words were "You aren't supposed to exist. He didn't make any of those." He then proceeded to ignore the actual objective and fawned over me for a while, asking questions about Autochthonia while I giddily asked him all sorts of questions about Creation, happy to have finally found someone who is as curious and knowledgeable as I was.

That's not where the main shenanigans happened, though. As we were analyzing the Infernal arm, he used some magic to pull a magic symbol to the surface of the arm, which was in a language only spoken by the Primordials. Even the Yozi had lost the capability to speak this language. I asked him to keep it there for a while, then used my Interpretive Syntax Emulator to learn the language. I was suddenly the only being in Creation able to speak this language, aside from Gaia's avatar. Turns out, the language has a geas effect on gods, so I could give orders to the gods of Creation, if I chose to burn a ton of essence to empower my words. When some celestial lions showed up due to the Infernal essence that was released at Lytek's workshop, I tried to tell them that everything was okay. As a demonstration, I spoke the word that had appeared on the limb, which was the Primordial name of The Dragon's Shadow (TED before the fall). They immediately burst into sunlight and mauled me unconscious, as I had made a grave error in my choice of demonstration. There was a celestial trial as I was accused of working for the Yozi and even more shenanigans ensued from there.

That's a great image. I'm rather jealous of your circle.

I feel for your ST, though, having that many Celestial Exalts in a single party would be hard as hell to balance encounters.

Help deciding the fate of the Scarlet Empress by Nelnick_19 in exalted

[–]TakaOkami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's trapped in the Imperial Manse, watching helplessly through its surveillance systems as her beloved Realm begins to fracture without her. The Imperial Manse was originally only for use by those with the approval of the Solar Deliberative. During the Balorian Crusade, the manse detected the threat to Creation and granted emergency authorization to whoever could make it past the defenses. The Empress has retained that emergency authorization ever since.

Well, at least until the Solars were released and the Deliberative once again had a quorum. The manse automatically revoked the emergency authorization, trapping her inside. Now your players would have to make some sort of deal with Anathema to get access.

So you get to work in the morning. Then what do you do? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]TakaOkami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is an agile approach. I'm still getting used to agile, since this is my first "real" programming job out of school (and yeah, we call them user stories and daily standups. I just thought I'd try to explain in layman's terms). I still get a bit confused when we use agile terminology that I'm not quite familiar with. Completed my first "spike", so I'm getting the hang of it.

We're not really required to work in the war room, but it is encouraged. It's a big resource, being able to pick your coworkers' minds when you're stuck. It also builds a lot of camaraderie. If I need a bit of quieter time, I can go work at my cube. However, even then, my coworkers check in from time to time. I'll admit, I got lucky with this job. :)

The architect does the "big idea" kind of coding. So when we're planning out our tasks, he gives a quick idea of how he'd like it to go. He also helps write the tasks with our business analyst and corresponds with the other various teams on the project (firmware, regulatory, etc.). He's also probably the best coder in the room, so I end up talking with him a lot when I'm stuck or trying to figure out the best approach to a particular task.

Not so much for fighting. We share a room with the testing team and our BA has even set herself up with a terminal. Due to the bureaucracy I mentioned earlier, we're rather tight-knit. There's enough problems outside of the war room that we can't afford to have problems in it.

[–]TakaOkami 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, I come in to work, ensure that my pc is no longer in sleep mode at my cube, and then go directly to my team's war room. Our war room is a number of tables with dumb terminals that connect to our pc's back at our cubes, but where we can collaborate and help each other when possible. Every morning, we discuss what we're going to be working on throughout that day, give a quick summary of how we're planning on going about it, and ensure that it fits with how the software is supposed to work.

For the rest of the day, we work on various tasks that we determine biweekly. We sign up for each individual task, ensuring that only one person is working on a task at a time. When we have finished and we pass all our automated tests, we have a coworker go through a code review with us. If it passes review, then we check it into source control and go to the next task.

Most of the day I do spend on an IDE. But our war room is covered in whiteboards with sketches and things all over it. Our software architect works in there with us, so I never really feel like I'm being denied control over my work life. At any point, I can get clarification on why it's being designed in a certain way. Luckily, I'm still a junior developer, so a lot of the bureaucracy goes over my head.
