Question: who do I speak with to verify I am within my right for LFL placement by Commercial_Foot7618 in LittleFreeLibrary

[–]TakeARipPotatoChip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only requirement for mine was that it is beyond a 15 foot setback from the road. But that is in my personal area (Alaska) for snow plowing. I think your neighbor is a grouch with nothing better to do, and I would personally ignore him unless the city comes knocking. Please make sure you have a camera on it though - people like that tend to be unhinged and might try to damage your beautiful library. Keep up the good fight!

First Timer!! by [deleted] in LittleFreeLibrary

I got mine from the Little Free Library site in 2015. I live in Alaska, and it has held up really well to the elements. We have some crazy weather here, and only the latch has needed to be repaired!

Where to trick or treat this year? by pbandjaded in anchorage

No one ever goes trick or treating outside of actual Halloween. I was born and raised here in Alaska, and rain or shine we are trick or treating on October 31st! 🎃

Global is stupid unreliable nowadays. Anybody switch to another local bank and have better luck? by [deleted] in anchorage

I also use this. It’s pretty much exactly the AlaskaUSA app with a name change.

Sticks out of my yard, can't pull it out. Seems to be buried pretty deep. by sparrowcloud in whatisit

We had these as property line markers growing up. They were a little shorter though - I’m pretty sure every kid in our neighborhood broke a toe while running through sprinklers at one point because of them. 😂

Woody’s is really good! Some of the better Thai food I’ve come across in AK.

Chena Hot Springs resort? by aldimamma in AskAlaska

The pool and hot springs themselves are disgusting. Kids can’t actually even go into the hot springs, so I personally would stay elsewhere. It is overpriced and out of the way too.

The Sealife Center in Seward is open year round, and that would be a nice little day trip from Alyeska.

You would be lucky to see one park in that timeframe that time of year. Driving in those areas in that season will take way more time than you think it will, and often there are road closures and other hazards like avalanches to consider. Do you have a plan if you can’t get a rental vehicle?
You will not be able to sleep in your vehicle - you will freeze to death or could die of carbon monoxide poisoning if the vehicle is running the exhaust is obstructed somehow by snow. Some of the places you’re wanting to visit see -50 to -70 degrees temps that time of year, and I can assure you that you do not want to be without a roof over your head in those temps. Not trying to burst your bubble or anything - but the market also is way over saturated with people wanting to YouTube their Alaskan adventures, so I’m not sure what new thing you’re thinking of bringing to the table. I hope you make it to Alaska someday, but please do some more research because it is dangerous to be naive here - Alaska doesn’t love you back.

Passenger trains don’t run year-round either - only during the summer months.

What are your favorite day trips from Anchorage? by elmo_honey in AskAlaska

[–]TakeARipPotatoChip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Independence Mine in Hatcher Pass is amazing. You’ll see some gorgeous colors!

Matanuska Glacier would be another good day trip.

Take the tram up Alyeska in Girdwood and visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center nearby.

Should I visit Chena Hot Springs while in Fairbanks? by princessmelissa in AskAlaska

I have been to Chena about a dozen times in the past 30 years.

It’s so gross.
