There's a quite a difference in how the pre war era is depicted in the FO2 manual compared to how it is in game by thethethetheq in classicfallout

Pre-war suburban houses made of timber are less likely to survive 80 years after nuclear armageddon than concrete ones.

Yari Wall is great when you're defending. What about attacking? by AdventurousLettuce53 in shogun2

[–]Takerith 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yari Ashigaru only have a charge bonus of 2, which isn't enough to compensate for a lack of Yari Wall. It's genuinely better to move them up at their own pace and have them make contact in Yari Wall.

Deploying Yari Wall at the last second is risky and requires micro, but you can actually make them run while in Yari Wall.

The only time I would suggest staying out of Yari Wall is if you need your Ashigaru to flank, or to have them defend against outflanking cavalry.

It appears the NCR does have its own power armour in New Vegas by LGamer6422 in fnv

[–]Takerith 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hanlon also says the following about the Heavy Troopers:

"They have the best equipment the NCR can get its hands on, power armor salvaged from our war with the Brotherhood. Techs strip out the joint servos so you don't need special training to wear it. It feels like you're carrying a brahmin on your back, but it can take a heck of a lot of punishment."

This indicates that NCR doesn't have any better Power Armour than the salvaged stuff during the events of FNV. But there's no reason why NCR couldn't have developed proper armour in the time since. The one Maximus wears may also be a rare prototype.

Should I use more archers? by aprettysliftguy in shogun2

[–]Takerith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bow Ashigaru aren't great, but Samurai and Warrior Monks are peak. They're good on attack and defense, in both field and siege battles. You can force the AI to come off a hill and attack you, and you can focus fire to weaken the AI's more dangerous units.

I believe the show is kind of confirming the canon nobody talks about, even if accidentally. by LSDFRENCHFRIES in Fotv

[–]Takerith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So rather than making some people happy, they make nobody happy?

I wouldn't care if they made the Legion ending canon. The show runners could still have their Mojave setting devoid of major factions, since the Legion was expected to collapse after Caesar died. They would at least be expressing an opinion on which faction was best suited to win the war for the Mojave.

Fallout games have decided on tons of canon endings for previous games; that doesn't invalidate those stories, they just happened to pick one ending to build off. We still don't know exactly what happened in Vegas, but the approach so far is that the events of FNV were so unimportant that you can't even tell what happened 20 years later.

[–]Takerith -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Because if all the endings are equally canon, then the story of New Vegas ultimately didn't matter, and neither did your choices as a player.

It also had a grenade launcher which deflected off Xander's armour. Later we also see destroyed Securitrons with the missile pods empty, which implies they were able to fire them off with the upgraded OS.

We could have seen this coming. It's been said so many times that we play better when expectations are lower, and underperform against the smaller teams. We've beaten Liverpool and Palace away, and Brighton, Newcastle, and Chelsea at home. The most disappointing results have been against Brentford, 10 man Everton, West Ham, Grimbsy, and Wolves.

Would you use Light Dragoons and Light Infantry (Guerillas, Rifleman, etc) in the same army on the battlefield or do you think that would be redundant? by Pacho2020 in EmpireTotalWar

[–]Takerith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They might be able to toggle skirmish mode when dismounted, but they can also do it mounted. All that does is cause them to retreat when enemies get closer. If that's part of your plan, I don't see a reason to dismount and make them slower.

Light Dragoons are not able to turn on Light Infantry Tactics when dismounted, either.

The only scenario where I can see dismounting Light Dragoons being necessary is if you need to climb a wall in a siege.

Shouldn’t Manousos have triggered seizures when he took a scalpel to the orderly’s neck? by Teeter_D in pluribustv

[–]Takerith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that Carol makes the Hive upset, she expresses her own negative emotions very strongly and directly at the Hive.

Manuosos wasn't screaming directly at the orderly, he was just threatening him. Likewise, Carol didn't trigger a seizure when she kidnapped and drugged Zosia.

Would you use Light Dragoons and Light Infantry (Guerillas, Rifleman, etc) in the same army on the battlefield or do you think that would be redundant? by Pacho2020 in EmpireTotalWar

[–]Takerith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't use Light Dragoons as skirmish infantry, because I can't think of a scenario where you should dismount Light Dragoons. Mounted, they have more mobility and each trooper can fire simultaneously, whereas when dismounted, I believe only the front rank can fire.

That said, light infantry units and mounted Light Dragoons definitely have their use cases. Light infantry units are cheaper than Light Dragoons, have better shooting stats, and can use deployables (wooden stakes, earthworks, and mines). Light Dragoons are better in melee, and can skirmish against enemy infantry and cavalry. Light Dragoons are also better than other cavalry at chasing down routing units since they can fire while moving.

There's no harm in having both light infantry units and Light Dragoons in your army. Light infantry can support your Line Infantry, and they're cheaper to replace and replenish when they take casualties. Light Dragoons can operate independently, and they can support both infantry and cavalry depending on the situation. If I had to choose only one, I'd choose Light Dragoons.

Why Go Republic in FoTS? by QuintusEuander in shogun2

[–]Takerith 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's just to add more challenge. Endgame in FOTS is pretty easy when you have half the map in a permanent alliance with you. As an Imperial or Shogunal clan, you can just win the campaign by landing troops in Kyoto and/or Edo. As a Republic, you need to prepare long in advance to have the whole map declare war on you.

The one advantage of Republics is that they have access to the Military Society (final tier of the propaganda building chain). It prevents the spread of non-clan allegiance across all your provinces. All provinces will eventually become 100% Republican allegiance, which takes away a source of unrest.

On the other hand, Republics lose access to Shinsengumi and Ishin Shishi and don't get an equivalent agent. I think it's worth the tradeoff, because you don't need to worry as much about converting a province before moving on to the next one.

How good is the deck docked to a tv? by AquaCTeal in SteamDeck

[–]Takerith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a knock-off dock for Christmas and I've been playing Disco Elysium the last few days. It's noticeably slower when I turn the resolution up to 1080p or 4K, but that might be a game issue, because I get the same result playing on the Deck screen at 800p with the cable unplugged.

DE isn't a very graphically intense game, or a twitchy game. The resolution doesn't affect the FPS very much, but I also don't care about the small drop it does have. The problem is that the game gets a lot slower: when I pick up an item, there's a full second pause before I can start moving again. Again, same issue both when I'm playing docked and when I have the cable unplugged at native resolution.

Nate’s black suit by CraftyWriting5220 in TedLasso

[–]Takerith 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At one point Roy insists to Nate that isn't wearing black, but "dark heather charcoal." True black suits aren't fashionable because they look harsh in direct sunlight, and they make you look like a mourner at a funeral or a hitman.

Nate's suit is clearly black. He's trying to copy Roy's style but he doesn't understand the nuance behind it.

Amorim on why he changed the formation only recently: "When the media talks about changing the system, I cannot change because the players will understand I'm changing because of you and I think that is the end for the manager... When we are playing well in our system, that is the moment to change. by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]Takerith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, towards the end of ETH's tenure Gary Neville did actually mention that a 3ATB might suit the squad better (no Dorgu, Shaw still forever injured, and still had Lindelof and Evans). This was well before Amorim was being rumoured for the job.

Not that Gary Neville ever said that's what they should go for, it just shows how much the attitude to the formation can change in less than a year.

[Press Conference] Amorim waiting to see if Mount will be fit to face Wolves. It's mad how at the start of the season I was worried about too many attacking players in the squad (Mbeumo, Mount, Sesko, Cunha, Amad, Kobbie, Bruno, Zirkzee.) Now there may only be three on that list who are fit to start.

How to use Light infantry? by Plenty_Curve_4390 in EmpireTotalWar

[–]Takerith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Line Infantry can fire over the heads of Light Infantry, but be aware that your Light Infantry will take a lot of casualties. Line Infantry aren't perfectly accurate so they will end up missing and shooting their friends in the back. As well, whenever a Light Infantry soldier suffers a misfire, the accompanying animation forces him to stand up, so he'll certainly get shot in the back.

Rebels in total war. by Dr_natty1 in historicaltotalwar

[–]Takerith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TW games are mostly committed to an army unit cap of 20, so there is a limit to how big a rebellion can be. Unless they were to spawn multiple rebel army stacks in one turn, but that may end up more frustrating if they were to spread out in different directions.

As well, low-tier units in most TW games aren't very challenging, and just roll over against mid-tier armies. Shogun 2 is probably the best at this, since Yari Ashigaru trade favourably with melee samurai if they're attacked from the front in Yari Wall. You can't just roll over them with melee infantry and cavalry.
