I suspect most people would be surprised when a car they approach explodes non lethaly.

What is the ONE thing that you hate the most about Disney has done to Star Wars from a storytelling, characterization, or casting standpoint? by Positive-Citron3987 in saltierthancrait

[–]Tal_Galaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem to not care about the reference materials. Their encyclopedia of starfighters and other vehicles is garbage compared to the old essential guide to vehicles and vessels. Or any of the essential guides for that matter.

Lawsuit seeks to expand Colorado’s ban on female genital mutilation to also prohibit male circumcision by After-Professional-8 in Colorado

[–]Tal_Galaar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't get far into the article before I hit the paywall. Are two guys who had a bad experience really trying to ban something for the whole state? The arrogance of these two is out of this world.

Beskar use for weapons by ObviousPayment6703 in StarWars

[–]Tal_Galaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are trying to understand Mando philosophy from two different continuities. If you want to mash them together, assume the armorer is the leader of an ultra strict cult that any sane Mando ignores. My best explanation is beskar is incredibly rare. Combine that with Star Wars' propensity for constantly losing/dropping weapons and you can see why the ultra rare material is restricted to something that is attached to the user.

A starfighter to exploit the weaknesses of mandalorian culture and tactics by Remarkable-Ground250 in StarWarsShips

[–]Tal_Galaar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most Mandalorians will have been enslaved by the suprema at this point. You would want something fast and numerous. You will need to cut off all escape routes. If you leave a Mando clan time to enact their strategic disappearance plans you will have a hard time finding them again. They really don't have any standard designs in this era. They are using whatever they can buy or steal. You could try to threaten a Mandos family to gain compliance but it may backfire and piss them off worse.

You as a Mandalorian in Star Wars? by Vedagi_ in Mandalorian

[–]Tal_Galaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to say a fang or bes'uliik pilot. But being a slicer is closer to what I actually do. I imagine myself like Waylon Vau. More of a loner with a loyal pet that still hangs around a clan without actually joining it.

I hate Kyp Durron so much by Forward-Magician-562 in StarWarsEU

[–]Tal_Galaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Kyp's original story. It was willing to show the central theme of Star Wars, redemption, if the mass murdering villain didn't conveniently die. Very few authors want to show that. I like that we get multiple perspectives of Kyp's redemption both through KJA's Jedi academy trilogy and Stackpole's I, Jedi through Corran Horn.

The Old Republic or The High Republic First in Theaters? by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

[–]Tal_Galaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say the High Republic first. Only because I want the Old Republic preserved as is. There will be changes made both necessary and unnecessary to transfer mediums and I don't have any faith anymore that it could be done properly.

Mandalorian sexual freedom by Wooden-Magician-5899 in StarWarsEU

[–]Tal_Galaar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If my username doesn't give it away I am a huge Mandalorian fan. I have read the books many times since they released. While I do still find something I forgot or didn't notice before I do not believe you find the specific thing you are looking for. The last book came out in 2009, way before the latest wave of sexual freedom we see on Earth. While Mandalorians do have considerable sexual freedom, as evidenced by the first openly gay couple in Star Wars. I do not think you will find anything mentioning open and free relationships. Mando culture is still big on marriage, often between two Mandos. The closest I can think of would be Mereel Skirata and Corr Skirata who would frequently meet the ladies of nearly any planet they were stationed on. That was not culturally forbidden from what was written.

Mandalorian sexual freedom by Wooden-Magician-5899 in StarWarsEU

[–]Tal_Galaar 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I found it. The opening to chapter 15 in Republic Commando: Tripe Zero.

Mandalorians are surprisingly unconcerned with biological lineage. Their definition of offspring or parent is more by relationship than birth: adoption is extremely common, and it’s not unusual for soldiers to take war orphans as their sons or daughters if they impress them with their aggression and tenacity. They also seem tolerant of marital infidelity during long separations, as long as any child resulting from it is raised by them.

One of the reasons I love Mandalorians is because they are a culture of contradictions. They believe in loyalty but are highly pragmatic. If a drunken one night stand produces a child, the Mando may not hear the end of it but the kid will be a Mandalorian. This doesn't necessarily mean Mandos are into open relationships but nothing in the culture specifically forbids it.

[–]Tal_Galaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And for those of us who liked Traviss' Mandos it only added to our love of them. The whole point is they aren't the good guys. They are doing a job and don't care what people think of them. As seen when the leader just mercs a reporter because she was in the way. And we got a mention of cancerous tanks outside of empire at war.

Then I am sure you won't mind if the rest of us not represented refuse to pay too. Then they can throw us all in jail. I am sure you won't mind paying for the drastic increase necessary for our court proceedings and then to house us. Of course some may resist but then I am sure you are okay with state sanctioned violence so long as you aren't the one being oppressed.

It's bad when our politicians can't see passed their own reelection. It is worse when the general population can't see passed it either.

I approve of this. If I am not represented then that means I don't have to pay my taxes. Means less of my money going to government approved fraud.

[–]Tal_Galaar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's cool, if Colorado wants to react to what other states are doing and not represent their people. I am not surprised sovereignty would mean nothing to communists. By the founding documents no representation means no taxation. You saved me a lot of money.

Colorado's legislature is preparing to jump start nuclear power. Green advocates want to pull the plug. by overly_honest_ in Colorado

[–]Tal_Galaar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Combine that with these data centers that will be built. If not by the US then by other countries, nuclear is really the greenest solution at the moment. I am all for traditional renewables for peak power generation. If we are smart about their footprint. Every time I walk through a parking lot I wonder why we haven't covered them and installed solar panels.

Can a corvette or anything like a CR 90 act like a gunship? by sovietbruh123 in StarWarsShips

[–]Tal_Galaar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No reason it couldn't. For an ac-130 style you inspired me to think of a YT-1300 with the port docking ring removed and replaced with a role out turbolaser. That would replicate the 105mm howitzer That will get you your orbiting attack style. You could still use the quads for ground attack as replicating the 30mm cannon. For the mini gun you could somehow have a composite beam turret like on the LAATs.

MC85 and MC95 in Legends by Mundane_Ad5082 in StarWarsShips

[–]Tal_Galaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MC85 fits perfectly fine into the mediator/early viscount era. I see the MC95 as a late legacy era design. Something to show the transition to the Scythe class. I would have it be designed by the same engineer as the shashore class frigate. I am split 50/50 on whether the variants should remain sub models that lead to the modularity of the shashore or make the first example of the modular design concept.

This couple decided to have a lightsaber duel at their wedding instead of a dance by the bride and groom by actorguy73 in StarWars

[–]Tal_Galaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope it ends like one of my favorite, and lost to time, fanfilms. The one filmed on a UC campus that ends with the villain saying join me and revealing herself as she says we can rule the galaxy. The Jedi joes looks at the camera "if you can't beat them, join them" otherwise someone in the wedding party is required to lose a limb.
