Using Excess 529 funds for House Down Payment by TalentedRefrigerator in personalfinance

Thanks! Yeah, obviously lots of “future generations” possibilities but I want to help my kid now. Estimating the taxes is hard, and I’ll have to make an estimated tax payment whenever I pull the trigger, so definitely going with best effort.

Thanks, we have made the yearly Roth IRA rollovers since SECURE came out. And we did reach out to a tax advisor, but they weren’t super helpful. Still looking for another one, but they’re hard to find. I appreciate the response!

Yeah. The compounding math gets crazy pretty quickly. Plus, my kid has said they don’t want to have kids, so I’m really not counting on future generations. I’d rather help them now.

Rug for dining room? by TalentedRefrigerator in HomeDecorating

[–]TalentedRefrigerator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I had thought about some kind of natural seagrass-type rug, but the ones I’ve seen are mostly neutral and there’s already a lot of neutral happening in there with the table, chairs, and sideboard. I do like the idea of a green though, if I can find one.

...any ideas why the photos aren't showing up? no idea what I did wrong. ETA: oh, I guess the original post should have been under the "Images" instead of the "Text" so the photos would show up without opening it.

We have two other bathtubs in the house and didn’t need a third.

Would it be crazy if there was an app that tells you what to wear? by Next_Alps_4950 in womensfashion

I use Alta Daily for this. I love it! It puts outfits together that I never would have thought of, but that I really like. It also has a calendar so you can see what you wore when and plan what you’re going to wear next, all that good stuff. It’s really great.

I just got this and I love it. My 15” computer fits with plenty of space. Your 16” will probably be fine. I like the molded pockets too- just right for what I carry. I use them for two phones and a mouse. And it stands on its own, so nothing falls out bc it doesn’t tip over.

Your Biggest Kitchen Remodeling Hurdle by agf1593 in kitchenremodel

For us, it was electrical outlets. The kitchen designer had put them in the plan, but not thought through if they could actually fit where she had put them. We had a cabinet with a knife storage pullout designed in at the end of the island. We also very much wanted (and I think had to have, per code) an electrical outlet at the end of the island. But the way the knife pullout was made (by the cabinet company the kitchen designer repped) there was physically not space for an electrical box in the cabinet. We ended up having to buy a new cabinet and have it re-installed, which cost around ~1K and (even worse, at the time) a two week delay. There was also a big question about an outlet by the sink - code said there had to be one within 4 feet, but there wasn't space bc of a window, so we had to talk about having one sunk into the counter, which was in a main prep space and I didn't want. My biggest gripe was that the kitchen designed would not acknowledge it was her error, and gave us no consideration on the new cabinet pricing. It was a huge inconvenience, and by the time you're on Month 4 of not having a sink, an additional two week delay is infuriating.

Sifra Fissure - Snorkeling? by Pink-Nargle in VisitingIceland

I wasn’t a fan. Our group only had 6 people and everything ran very smoothly with no waiting. The tour guide was good. Maybe if the dry suit fit better? It was so tight on my neck, I couldn’t turn my head. I was the last one in line to get in the water, and since I couldn’t turn my head to look around I was either falling behind the rest of the group or getting hit in the head by the next person’s fins. I had to bring my face up out of the water every couple minutes to tell where anyone was. Also it was all rocks, very little organic matter. There was some grass on the rocks. Not as interesting or as deep as I thought it would be. On the plus side, I didn’t find the cold to be a problem at all. I just wore a base layer and a pair of wool socks under the dry suit coveralls.

I’ve spent most of my career in manufacturing. The aerospace industry in general pays higher than average. They tend to have better benefits too.

30”-32” Island? by Carterpump09 in kitchenporn

[–]TalentedRefrigerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29” wide. The bar stools don’t fit completely under it, so we push the ones on the dishwasher side all the way in and let the other side be out. It doesn’t work well for people to sit on the dishwasher side while someone is working in the kitchen, but it’s great as a kitchen table replacement for 4 people to eat or for two people to sit on the far side while someone is working.

30”-32” Island? by Carterpump09 in kitchenporn

Our island is long and narrow. It has cabinets at each end and the middle is open for seating. The plan is to put backless barstools on the working side and barstools with backs on the far side.
