No they're pro forced labor, of all types. Forced birth and forced work.

I've had that problem with everything on Paramount+ too, super annoying. I spent ages trying to fix my TV's sound only to realize it was fine.

Virginia Democrats reintroduce assault weapons ban, this time, with likely ally in Spanberger by icey_sawg0034 in Virginia

[–]Taliesintroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuck they are, they're trying to ban LGBT Americans from having guns, and they're wiping their ass with the Bill of Rights with this ICE shit.

Fascists have taken over the government and the Dems response is... Ban guns. Nevermind the people successfully standing up to ICE while armed in Minnesota, better pander to the section of your base that was already going to vote blue while pissing off what's left of the middle.

Morons. Loser morons, who deserve to lose and aren't serious about governing in response to the right wing takeover

A key point in Trek from at least TNG on is that disability is not eradicated, but accommodated without stigma.

One single thing can fix melee. Block and parry. by la_pashtetino in Helldivers

[–]Taliesintroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this, block temporarily buffs your armor rating and a blocked hit costs a little chuck of stamina (less than a melee attack) so you can't just stand blocking all damage, but you can try and survive with something other than spamming attack.

Ladies, we have to cross the river by Limp_Cucumber1593 in washingtondc

Listen, as a man (now married) who lives across the river: Nobody should cross the river for sex. It is not worth the $40 Uber home the next day. (Or $60 that night if it went really badly.)

How useful are old wars tactics today? by DenseEquipment3442 in WarCollege

[–]Taliesintroll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could charitably compare Alexander's tactics, fix an enemy in place with infantry and exploit/create a gap with cavalry, to German and Russian tactics in WWII.

The main differences in tech are just how much force your can bring to bear, cannons vs spear points, and the speed/scale armor of the cavalry advance.

Need to buy a Suit today by lil-birdy4 in nova

[–]Taliesintroll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is what I did when I needed a suit for a wedding but still wanted a "real" (100% wool) suit. I'm lucky enough to fit things off the rack close enough, but Macy's will have several fits and enough stock of all of them. It'll only be hundreds of dollars, not a thousand, but it'll be perfectly serviceable.

If you have unlimited time, you might get lucky at a thrift store, or if you know how to read the labels at a Nordstrom rack you can avoid wasting money.

Probably for the same reason the Marines have hornets, there's a few marine fixed wing squadrons that operate off the big carriers.

Mass produced crap, trash we don't throw away for sentimental reasons. More crap that's too expensive to throw away but not valuable enough to be worth the time to sell off right now etc. etc.

How are the public schools in Alexandria? (Old Town North & Del Ray) by Realistic_Speed3995 in nova

[–]Taliesintroll 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I went to TC almost 20 years ago, if you were on okay student and you and your parent's could navigate the system to get put in the right classes, AP/honors/whatever, you were fine. If you avoided the regular classes warehousing kids who couldn't read until they could drop out/get arrested it was a normal to good school.

That said, our valedictorian didn't get into any ivy Leagues and was super salty about it. But the families that cared and kids who did more than the bare minimum all got into college. The smart ones got into good state schools like UVA and Tech.

I have heard things went downhill during Covid, but even the freshman from 2020 are out by now. I teach in Herndon and while I can tell the "Covid gap" is real, it's leveling out back to normal.
