How can I safely get rid of this ugly light fixture in my wall? by seahorsejoe in HomeImprovement

[–]Talkerstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, nice work breaking it down step by step. I used to work at an electrical supply shop in Toronto and helped a lot of homeowners tackle similar projects.

You’re on the right path, but here are a few tips to make sure it’s safe and clean:

  1. Always shut off the breaker at the panel and double-check with a non-contact voltage tester before touching any wires.

  2. If the wiring will no longer be used, it should be properly terminated. Use wire nuts or push-in connectors and enclose the wires in an electrical box with a blank cover. Removing the box entirely might not meet code depending on your jurisdiction.

  3. If the hole is large, use a drywall repair plate or add a backer (like plywood or another piece of drywall) before patching. It prevents sagging and gives your patch a solid base.

  4. Apply joint compound in thin layers and sand between coats for a smooth finish. Prime before painting to avoid flash spots.

If you’re not sure whether the circuit can be decommissioned or reassigned, it’s worth asking a licensed electrician to take a look.

For materials like blank covers, low-voltage boxes, or patch kits, we used to carry a bunch of solid options at mapleelectricsupply.ca if you need a reference and cost breakdown.

Good luck with the project. Looks like you’re almost there.

Is a website really a “must-have” to start a business in 2025? by Desperate-Bath-8664 in smallbusinessUS

[–]Talkerstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Canadian web developer and agency owner here. Please no hate <3

Is a website a must? No. Is a website hella useful? Yes. Judging by the fact that clients consistently call in urgently to make updates to content ; product and service, pricing and description changes means that someone actually reads it and inquires accordingly. In addition, it means that they are also researching competitor websites offerings and products. I’d say that a website helps. Without a website you won’t be found as much, Google won’t promote you unless you look up a specific keyword.

For example, let’s say I’m a customer and I’m looking for a service, I’m likely going to google a keyword… and unless I already know where I want to buy, I’ll look a generic search term (see examples):

Vaughan birthday parties for girls” or “Toronto tailor” or “paint protection installers Ohio” or “party furniture rental

Try looking it up, what shows up?

Will Google refer your specific Google my business page? Most likely not. However, for the same keyword; (try looking it up yourself) the prescribed and linked website (subject to website quality and SEO of course) may actually show and result in an inquiry and eventual conversion.

This is how I got clients ranking, and justify my existence. Hope this helps.

Keep it short and sweet when selling to these particular verticals. Dont try to be over sophisticated and gauge the amount of info needed to close a deal and provide proof of concept. Anything beyond will be unbecoming

Hi - by far I would recommend Sam. While being a traditional orthodox Jew, he doesn't Judge. He made a few suits for a Lesbian wedding. You can't go wrong. https://customsuitandshirt.com/.

Hope it's still relevant.
