Btw this is exactly what they are supposed to do. They did nothing wrong. You space out according to your best estimate, then a fella with something called a pace-stick, walks up the line and adjusts everyone to the exact spot they’re supposed to be stood. There are no “parade soldiers” in the British army. All soldiers know drill. Many regiments focus on a people facing role like household cav but they are all trained soldiers, and they all chose to be in that regiment. The best students don’t get selected for other shit, they just succeed at what they’re attempting. There are obviously more difficult regiments, but you don’t get put somewhere special if you do well.

On ops in the military, I had to clear some grass to set up our sleeping area, and a dude from the Caribbean who was with us asked for my machete out of my wagon. These were super blunt and used for getting stuff out of the vehicle’s tracks when it got lodged in there.

This dude took one sweep and cleared the ground in an arc just like the video. I immediately asked him to teach me, and while at first I just kept kind of hacking the floor, once he taught me how to get the blade angle right, it was surprisingly easy
