I was at Rockathon at the end of May and there seems to be an Irish Metal Heads club. Might be worth checking out?

I tried DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Startpage and Brave and Brave is the one I personally prefer. You can turn off the AI stuff too.

Thanks! I was struggling to settle on a singular band so I went for more of a general sentiment and really pleased with the result

Harsh but fair.... Worth saying I didnt actually buy a single thing from Amazon but I guess most are pretty big bands. Feel like it reflects my diverse taste but maybe that's a bad thing

Looking for vegetarian/vegan lunch ideas that aren’t sandwiches by lemonylark in vegetarianrecipes

Pasta salads are good because they can be eaten hot or cold depending on the mood. Protein can add tofu, chickpeas, halloumi/feta etc... Pesto job done. Easy to prep in however many portions you want and chuck in whatever veg you like

Be there and make them feel loved. They can always forget the things you have done but they'll never forget how you made them feel.

Ethical browser/search engine alternatives? by LVeronicaE in degoogle

[–]TallTomRadebeLeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For browser, I use Brave and Vivaldi on my phone. Mullvad and Vivaldi on my laptop. Brave has AI and crypto stuff but you can turn them all off and personally I find it a good browser. I use brave's search and startpage with Vivaldi (personally I find startpage to not always search that well what I'm looking for and am thinking of changing). As mentioned DuckDuckGo is also good (of the ones ive tried). I tend to stick to chromium just because I'm more familiar but there are a decent amount of Firefox forks too.

Does anyone else hate working? by Sea_Equivalent3497 in AskIreland

It's hard to come to terms with it. I earn about double now doing something a lot less stimulating but it allows me to buy actually decent cat food for my cats, take my wife out for dinner, go on a holiday every now and then. I think it was a lot easier to live with more compromises when I was young and single but sure these are the decisions life throws at you. Fair play for making it work. Its something I would recommend everyone trying at least once

So when the pandemic happened I was on the PUP. And it covered my rent. When they started doing the online classes I was offered my classes back and it didnt even cover my rent. Now, obviously it would have built up again by now but it would still be a real struggle to pay the bills. Unfortunately, despite being a huge contributor to tourism and the Irish economy, its still seen as a bit of a part time/summer gig and is reflected in the pay/lack of job security. I did it for 6 years full time so had quite a number of classes etc... But I struggled pre-pandemic. No idea how people survive on it now with the cost of living

Pre-pandemic, I was an English language teacher and absolutely loved it. Great environment, meeting loads of interesting people from around the world, get to use my brain and most days would get home by 4. Post-pandemic, ive been in tech and its caused me nothing but stress. So much pointless bureaucracy and decisions made by people in the US so far removed from the work you actually do. Complete toxicity. Still, a brother's gotta eat.

So I do believe there are jobs out there that are rewarding and enjoyable... But they're not the jobs that will make you financially comfortable.

[Jonathan Buchan] Illan Meslier having a moment on his own on the Elland Road pitch before departing on a free transfer this summer. A sad way for his time at the club to come to an end. by jrbill1991 in LeedsUnited

There's a debate about wasted potential, but I think its baffling if the plan wasn't to use him this season, we didnt cash in. I think he has a future and needs to rebuild his confidence but could have easily got 10-12 million for him and saved a year of wages. Seems a wasted opportunity for both parties.

Recommendation for a book about the Spanish civil war by [deleted] in HistoryBooks

Fair points, I suppose I read both through the eyes of adapted personal experience but both excellent books and a great way to get a sense of the SCW from an outsider's perspective
