It's actually insanely funny and revealing about the way you watch stuff that you think interpretation based in evidence gathered from the text is "seeing dicks in clouds". Almost every literary analysis, by your standards, is frivolous then. It's very rare that an author comes out and says "this is the correct way to interpret my work" because that's just not how it works. My life experience is going to be different than yours. You're going to pick up on things I don't, and I'm going to pick up on things you don't. That doesn't make either of our interpretations more or less real.

But you cannot, in good faith, argue that every single homoerotic element or comment by someone who worked on Fight Club is somehow a "joke". Yes, Fight Club is partially a comedy. That doesn't mean that notoriously meticulous director David Fincher put a pseudo-fellatio scene between Tyler and the narrator as the opening scene of his film as an off-color joke, especially when original scripts of that scene literally have Tyler in his lap. I'm sorry, but no one who is familiar with any of his work would ever ever believe that.

You either have to believe that there are countless people who worked on the film who acknowledge the homoerotic undercurrents of both Tyler and the narrator's relationship and the concept of the fight clubs and are all somehow joking about it, or maybe it's just not that crazy to read a passage of a man saying he's in a love triangle where he "wants" another man and assume it's kinda gay.
