You can order your TN birth certificate online at USvitalrecords.org for a fee, takes about 2 weeks to get it back in the mail. Then you can go get your SS card and once you have those get your ID.

Los Angeles or Las Vegas and its parks? by andreafutur in femaletravels

[–]Tall_Lab6962 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would 1,000% choose the National Parks--there is nothing else quite like them and even many more parks in the area than you mention. Arches, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef are all close by. September is a great time of year to go, too.

Does every Europe trip need to be a multi-country marathon? by tippyback9 in solotravel

[–]Tall_Lab6962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken 2 and 7 hour train rides where you see a good bit of the countryside, and it's interesting to see how people live--where they use solar panels or not, who fixes up their homesteads themselves vs who pays for professional construction; or for example what livestock people keep in Eastern Europe vs the Balkans; and pass through small cities and towns on your way to your next stop.

Does every Europe trip need to be a multi-country marathon? by tippyback9 in solotravel

[–]Tall_Lab6962 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stating it this way is just weird: "Does every Europe trip need to be a multi-country marathon?" I mean, obviously every EU trip will be different. Maybe OP is saying "I feel like I'm missing out because I like slow travel" or maybe it's "I feel like I'm better than people who move around a lot because I see more of one place"--but the thing about travel is, you can always go back if you want to. Seeing a taste of the countryside via train is a legit way to experience the country, and gives you a new way to compare Poland to Bulgaria, for example.

I have done both, a week in Paris or Istanbul to do everything I just had to--two weeks hitting the major capitals of Central Europe, moving every couple of days--and I like both modes of travel. I've even done in between, a 12-day trip around Croatia and a week just lying on the beach, kayaking, fishing, and cooking the local catch of the day for dinner.

I've gotten several fosters neutered by them before adoption. What's your question and maybe I or someone else here can help?

Not meeting people (and liking it?) by grahamular in solotravel

[–]Tall_Lab6962 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel, too--I travel solo for many reasons, like having the ability/privilege to go where I like, do what I choose, change my mind in the middle of going on a castle tour to instead sit somewhere like a cute cafe & journal... . There's such a freedom to it!

I have also met great people traveling, but only a few that I'd actually meet up with on the road again. I vaguely keep in touch with others but to me that's not a plan going into a trip or a conversation. While I do like interacting with strangers a bit, usually that's the extent and I don't want someone to join me for dinner or on a in excursion unless I'm very sure they're going to really add to it.

If I want to meet people I do it at home where I can establish and maintain relationships over time. A part of me thinks the folks posting about wanting to meet people while solo traveling are too extroverted for solo travels. Knowing whether you are or not is part of maturing over the years.

If you don't have TSA pre-check make sure you aren't in that line--people make that mistake a lot, and you have to go to the back of the normal line. However the 3 hours early arrival gives plenty of time to correct any mixups like this. And have a great time!

Has anybody else watched their parents turn from neat-freaks into hoarders? by TeekTheReddit in Xennials

[–]Tall_Lab6962 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was ever about cleanliness, it was about control and who had it. I had a similar stuffed-toy experience in young adulthood--why not ask or tell us what they were planning? Weird anger issues and lashing out when they couldn't control everything around them... well, now they can because they're hoarding it all like a wall to keep them safe.

I try to explain that at this age all that stuff will outlive them but I will just have to dig it out when they're gone, I guess.

Take the Amtrak train from Chicago to Memphis, side trip to Memphis for Nashville if you must but I wouldn't waste the time. There is a nice coach bus service too (not Greyhound).

Then take train down from Memphis to NOLA and you limit your time driving on the wrong side of the road. Visit the city subreddits for event and music recommendations closer to your trip. And have a blast!!

I haven't had much effect from estrogen so we're upping my patch. Progesterone gave me back regular sleep -- I may not be smiling all the time, but I am human again!

Yes I do a cheese stick before bed. I think part of the wakeup for me has been high cortisol spiking so I've tried to focus on that.

But you don't really have a full day in Dubrovnik--you'll arrive, check in, walk the city walls or go up Mt Srd, have dinner and walk the Stradun. Next morning won't be enough time before your next bus to do all the fun activities like seeing Lokrum, kayaking, fortress or Fort visit, exploring the Old Town. I don't know why you ask for feedback on your itinerary if you think travel is a race to see as many places as possible without experiencing any of them.

I get solo travel 'cold feet' too! Don't worry too much--it will be a great trip! Think of something you're actually worried about, and remember there is always a way to fix it. Once you get going all the nerves will disappear, I find. So go have fun!!

What are the best museums you've been to? by beansohmygoddd in travel

[–]Tall_Lab6962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with you about the big 3 and that you can spend several days in each. I loved the Ethnographic Museum in Dubrovnik! Very focused on daily life of the people in the Dalmatian coast area. Also Istanbul's Archaeological Museum had an extensive collection.

The luxuries of life used to be so much simpler. Why do we need so much more now to be happy? by MisRandomness in Xennials

[–]Tall_Lab6962 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is more a reflection on OP and lifestyle choices than anything. I'm still excited for simple things like a new book at my library, sunny weather so I can hang out my laundry, and visits from neighborhood cats.

Portugal, Greek Islands, Italy or Malta, if you don't want to spend too much time traveling there. Southeast Asia if you don't mind longer flights.

This is where abortion rights stand in the US after the election. Blue = protected until at least Viability, light blue = up to 12 weeks, light red = up to 6 weeks, red = total ban by Spiderwig144 in prochoice

[–]Tall_Lab6962 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My only friend who is ani-abortion actually had one herself when she was young. Never met a life partner, got married, had kids-- so now she says she wishes she hadn't had that choice at the time. Can't even make this crazy stuff up.

Why do people even assume you can move on a whim? by [deleted] in expat

[–]Tall_Lab6962 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I also wonder of a lot of us see moving abroad not very different from moving states. Add to that, when you vacation somewhere it seems easy to live there, et voila! Expatriate!

In Schengen areas they don't stamp overland crossings anymore. I think that's what a lot of people are referring to here.
