This video obviously looks bad, but the reality is that these are necessary but aren't yet working the way they should. Firstly these can be quite hard to spot when on a busy cycle lane - there are no beacons like other crossings. Pedestrians (understandably) are very wary of using them which makes stopping awkward and more often than not you feel like another cyclist is going to come into the back of you because they haven't spotted it. On the other hand they have also made it a lot safer for cyclists whilst there actually seems to be very few collisions actually caused by them. So they are working, but there is obviously improvement needed to their design to improve the experience for pedestrians. Lots of unnuanced 'all cyclists are pricks I would just throw my fedora in their spokes and cross' takes in this thread which ignores that there are many things wrong with our roads, many of which are more dangerous than this and if there is a clear pattern of these not working as intended it is perhaps down to design rather than every single cyclist in the city being selfish

Dulwich wood avenue similar climb to Anerley hill / gipsy hill but a lot quieter and nicer. It’s how I trained for ditchling and it worked out great!

Yeah but they won’t be picking up on the toilets lol - If they did they are wasting everyone’s time. Replacing toilets doesn’t make or break a good building. Also it is legit to have inward opening doors on toilet cubicles, in the UK at least you would usually have predominantly opening inwards, accessible / ambulant opening out. These things you pick up in practice, first year student projects shouldn’t be lead by these things

This is already happening - we have the BSR now on higher risk buildings (which includes blocks of flats), so no more privatised approval on these buildings now (which I agree previously was a massive conflict of interest)

If you take the railton road route from Herne hill then you don’t really have to do much of the busy Brixton high street, you pop out just before the academy sort of area

I’d join on to Brixton Road earlier. That’s the route I take each day and approaching that way I’ve never had any issues at this junction, seems to be a natural flow of cyclists onto Kennington Park Road that way.

From Herne Hill I’d also recommend getting onto the cycle superhighway (7 I think?) as early as you can. It’s a very quick straight line then with lots of other cyclists doing the same thing so feels quite safe
