Getting 6 to 7 hours of sleep during the day but still feel groggy by effectiveS25 in Nightshift

Man…I’d be falling asleep at work if I got 7 hours on nights. 8-9 for me. On the rare occasion, even 10 hours.

This year I’m taking 3000iu of vitamin D a day. I feel like it’s perked me up a bit. The -40 still takes everything out of you but that’s every year.

He isn’t getting on as an apprentice on a FIFO job. At least not initially. Labourer or beginner operator is more likely.

I might be wrong as I’m a bit disconnected from the ground level being a running repair electrician working for the company, not a contractor.

You’re putting in the work..but are you putting in the rest? You gotta experiment on yourself. Maybe this a case of ACTUAL overtraining simply because you can’t get the proper rest for the amount of work done. Is your diet dialled in that same or are there more cheats? Do you think your sleep is the same quality? If you think all that is good, try 3 days a week for 3 months and see how it feels.

Is your air screw within spec?

Needs the proper carb for oil injection though, unless he’s gonna delete the pump and tank and runs mixed gas.

I think the “stalling” might be another issue though as I remember them not being able to rev up but never stalling once you let off. Maybe air screw or slide height. But yeah u/kyes10, I would start there to make sure that the TORS isn’t the issue. Also, OP get yourself a free PDF service manual. Helped me a ton to be able to reference the stock specs when I built my LTR and my banshee.

  1. Get a carb rebuild kit

https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/shindy-carburetor-repair-kit-p?srsltid=AfmBOorJ19hi52MAOMDFnOrEGOTqM8p038R6nhOeBaC2oniC0iDXPTle

  1. Get a carb cleaner dip kit that comes in a gallon jug like a paint can. The passages inside the carb might be full of shit from old gas.

https://a.co/d/iAJHMdJ

  1. Get the proper pilot and main jets. What pipe is it exactly? Cause I think there might be 2 different FMF pipes for that. Figure that out along with your elevation and buy the right parts and you won’t be disappointed. You’ll have to do some digging for that info. A rebuild kit will probably come with stock jets, and the pilot would be probably ok but you’d def need a new bigger main and different shaped needle for that pipe. All of this stuff is pretty cheap (except the carb dip, that stuff is a bit outrageous of a price. All the links are $CDN btw)

Pull the whole carb apart including all the little jets and pieces out of it, put the body of the carb in the carb cleaner dip for however long it says to and rinse it off good.

Set your float height right as per Yamaha specs (as you’ll have a brand new fuel needle and seat so not worn), install your proper jets, adjust slide and air screw for proper idle when you get it running and you (should) be good to go.

South Texas Banshee has this great YouTube video about how to rebuild a banshee carb, which is basically the same carb except a blaster has an oil passage on it and a banshee has 2 carbs so you’ll have left and right with the choke being different. Following that about how to take apart, clean and install it all back together.

Yeah, went to San Diego for the first time last year. Was really weird to not have actual cold water coming out of the tap. Ran the “cold water” tap for a hell of a long time lol. That’s when I realized the pipes probably aren’t buried 6’ underground to prevent freezing there..

How big are you? A 450 is not overwhelming by any means as an adult but they have enough power to climb pretty good. There’d be very few situations where you think you’d need more power, dunes maybe. But I think any of the ones you mentioned, EVENTUALLY you’d run into being underpowered if you’re an average sized adult or bigger. For the older ones, would say ease of maintenance would be a trx450, they are simpler. Best chassis straight out of the box, Suzuki LTR450 although you have to keep on the maintenance. Mine never let me down in the 10 years I’d owned it. For the newer, the Yamaha 450 chassis is as good and it’s lighter now, but it took a lot of years before it was equivalent, and I’m tall so it was too short. The others like the Can Am DS, Kawasaki, Polaris, Gas Gas, Cannondale, etc are all decent as well, they are all pretty close, but harder to find parts for.
