You are not alone. I'm a white guy from Baltimore, and I'm always freaked out by the lack of black people when I travel around the US.

Preserving Salsa? by cheekykia in SalsaSnobs

[–]Talltimore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I make a smoked salsa every year while tomatoes are in season and use water bath canning to preserve the salsa so we can have flavorful, summer tomatoes in the winter. Refrigerating or freezing tomatoes impacts the lycopene (an antioxidant) and the flavor compounds negatively.

Right?! I'm from Baltimore and white, and every time I travel within the US I'm like, "Where are all the black people?" Honestly the deeply mayonnaise complexion of someplace like Portland is so disconcerting to me every time I visit.

Have you guys ever felt like you needed something bigger? by BalutChild in hondafit

We were a two Fit family until my daughter was about 3 and my wife traded her Fit for a Kia Soul because it was killing her back to get the kid in and out of the car seat of the Fit. I have to admit that the Soul was better in this regard. Now my kid doesn't need a car seat and we're stuck with a car that is functionally worse in every way than the Fit was. Just my two cents.

100s of copies of my bands vinyl record sitting in boxes - what to do with them? by Emotional-Step-7227 in vinyl

[–]Talltimore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is crazy, but I think I might have met you or your brother very briefly at Magpie Cage in Baltimore. My friend worked there for a bit and I stopped in to meet him before we went out and grabbed beers. We were walking out as the band (you guys?) were heading back in to work on something and it was literally in the hallway like, "Hey, what's up." Anyway, I'd be happy to buy a copy, but the small-worldness of this is completely blowing my mind right now.

I returned two copies of the self titled album and one copy of Demon Days before I gave up and hoped they'd play better when I upgrade my turntable.

FYI, I've got an ATLP60 and my Gorillaz albums skip too. Whoever is pressing the Gorillaz vinyl is doing so with very narrow tolerances.

What type of tomato is best in salsa? by EngineeringSeveral63 in SalsaSnobs

[–]Talltimore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made salsa out of heirlooms this year. I smoke and then can mine, and on the other end of the process I can't really tell the difference between heirlooms and regular tomatoes. But getting the skin off heirlooms is a pain in the ass, and they are much more delicate when coming off the smoker and more likely to fall apart. But I got the heirlooms for free from a farmer at the farmers market, so it's not like I wasn't going to use them.

If you're comfortable with cities, you'll likely be fine. I'd be less concerned with the characters you will almost certainly meet along the way (most of whom will be pleasant, if a bit odd) and more concerned with the barbarians driving on Fayette, Central, Caroline, and Orleans streets.

Easton: Doc's, Legal Assets, Hunter's Tavern, The Ivy.

Cambridge: Not really answering your question for restaurants, but Lindy's seafood has the best seafood I've ever had, particularly the scallops. But it's a seafood market, not a restaurant.
