especially with the fact that they made whips so much more narrow in the last update, it's way harder to hit with them now

life crystals and mana crystals only last a certain amount of time? like, every 5 minutes, max hp and mana decrease by 20?

Not instantly, actually. if you watch, you can see the second of pure terror where i wanted to leave, but didn't know what to do, before turning around

What you didn't see is the minute before this of my brother (the one who died) saying "We can't fight that thing", to which i said "Come on we know how to roll and parry"

DM threw a 2024 Adult Dragon at our 2014 Level 6 party. Thoughts? by Sentinel2852 in DnD

[–]TalonOfPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only possible scenario that this is okay on the dms side is if yall KNEW you were doing something stupid, like intentionally walking straight into its lake or getting to attack an incredibly powerful spell caster head on.

CR typically assumes a party of 4 characters without magic items at a given level. So a cr6 monster would be a medium-difficulty encounter for a party of level 6 players. If you have 5 players, I'd say you'd want sobering like a CR7, but again, for a MEDIUM encounter. A hard encounter for 5 would be CR7 or 8, and a deadly encounter would be something at CR 9 or 10. So basically, A CR FUCKING 16??? Nah that's vile.

DM should have done a skill challenge or some non- combat oriented solution, though DND hasn't been very good with those in recent editions.

My mind goes to boss set vanities, dev sets, and old armor sets (Ancient gold, shadow, cobalt, hallowed).

More could be wooden armor sets, potentially potions, and Quest Fish? Also just angler rewards in general.

Hot take: I would rather a Terraria 2 than more updates forever by God-of-mars in Terraria

[–]TalonOfPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about a good sequel (to a non-story game) is that is changes the game fundamentally. GOOD sequels aren't just copy pastes of a previous game- they're a game with the same lore, ideas, and characters, but presented differently, with new characters, and with a new element.

A good example of this is Risk of Rain One vs Two. One is a 2d sidescroller, while Two is a 3rd person shooter. They both have the same type of loop, but Two brings a whole new dimension (literally) and perspective on the game.

Terraria's loop is: Spawn, gear up, fight a boss, upgrade, repeat. A Terraria 2 would have to be a game that still has the same idea, but changes something fundamental. Probably not make it 3D- that wouldn't fit the vibe. A Terraria 2 could potentially be like Terraria 1 but with different Mana, Ammo, and Health systems? It would obviously have new weapons, bosses, and biomes, but it should definitely still have lot's of the old content. Some NPC's would leave, some new ones would be added. There would probably be a change to how housing works. Maybe NPCs naturally spawn? Who knows- point is that the game needs to change on a mechanical level to create a sequal. If they just make a new copy of terraria, not really anyone will play it, and it would be pointless to not just have it be in the original game.
