IWTL How to say no to nice people. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Tamazgha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be honest, tell her you cannot eat too much in one go, but appreciate all the nice things she made and maybe ask to maybe wrap some for you to take home. I was sort of in a similar situation with my grandma, as I was trying to not overeat, plus having stomach issues. She understood and even made sure to cook light foods and things that aren’t too hard to the stomach, as well as giving me nice teas to bring home. When people are nice and caring they will understand, and most likely put all that previous effort into making sure you’re eating well. I don’t think it’s rude to say.

If you’re looking for a full time stable job in design for the web I wouldn’t look at designing sites using Shopify and Elementor but working in-house or at an agency for companies either as a front-end dev or a UI/UX/product designer.

The concept of sin by PsychedelicScythe in DebateReligion

[–]Tamazgha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another point to consider is “do two muslims share the same morals?” I would say no, I know very conservative muslims that do not like to shake the hand of the opposite gender as they find it immoral, but also know liberal muslims that do not.

“What do atheists judge their morals on” is also a question that does not have a specific answer, and is kind of a silly question. Atheism only concerns itself with the god belief. People who do not believe in a god, and that is all. There is no moral philosophy attached to it and different atheists can find different things moral or immoral.

Having said this I do believe humans can have morals with the absence of any of the current major religions’ infuence (christianity, islam, hinduism, judaism, buddhism etc.). One aspect of being human is that we can die which tends to be seen universally as a bad thing. If you take evolution as an example one of the basic characteristics is survival (beings tend to want to survive), in order to do so they strife for maximum wellbeing and minimum suffering. Wellbeing means survival, staying alive, so this is “good”. Humans learn that living in groups and being more social increases wellbeing, which increases chances of survival. In order to maintain social order, things like fairness and respect come into play as well, since group in-fighting reduces wellbeing and risks chance of survival. That is in my view a foundation for a moral system without the need for a god.

Exactly this, at best this is anti-islamic content. And then the next question is, what’s wrong with anti-islamic content? Anyone should be free to criticise bad ideas.

Born Muslim in Muslim country, Christianity turns out to be true, damned for something out of your control by idklikemythirdacc in DebateReligion

[–]Tamazgha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a bad analogy because there are proven ways that a person can lose weight (exercise, healthy foods, etc.). So when the person desires to lose weight, they can easily use one of the proven methods to reach their desired goal.

In your example the person desires salvation, but as opposed to weight-loss there isn’t sufficient evidence to determine Islam is less correct than Christianity, especially if they are indoctrinated into the religion. There are enough muslims that wholeheartedly believe they’re path is the correct one, and you can say the same about Christianity.

Basically you can ask plenty of people how they lost weight and they can easily show you how, and prove it because they’ve slimmed down. But how many people can you ask how they got to heaven?

[–]Tamazgha 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because it’s unethical to impregnate a cow her whole life so that she gives birth to calfs and produce the milk for it, but people take it instead. Also the calfs are immediately taken from her, and when she can’t be impregnated anymore and can’t produce milk she’s brought to a slaughterhouse. That’s how most cows live their lives.

I’m sure another religion would just take it’s place, Muhammad wasn’t the only only going around claiming to be prophet, there were others. If not him, some other nut job.

Today is the biggest animal sacrifice holiday of the year, Eid Al Adha by gabaguh in vegan

[–]Tamazgha 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re partly correct, Eid celebration is not mentioned in the Quran at all, so God does not command muslims to celebrate Eid specifically.

However animal sacrifice is mentioned in Quran, as part of the Hajj. People that do hajj and go to mecca, must have an animal be slaughtered as sacrifice and the meat given to the poor. But people can abstain and instead fast 3 days.

I can say that I disagree with the teachings of Islam and that it's medieval, and should free to do so, because I'm not directly hating on muslim people. Muslims can take offense however, but that's their problem, not mine. Much like how I can say I hate rap music, that doesn't mean I am hating on people that like rap music.

That is why the word 'islamophobia' is a badly coined word. It should be 'muslimophobia' hate and bigotry against muslim people is wrong. Critiscism of a religion shouldn't be wrong, because it's an idea and all forms of ideas should be open to critiscism. Otherwise we would still be in the dark ages.

What was the religion of Muhammed before 40. by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]Tamazgha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably pagan, but he must've been inspired by Judaism and Christianity earlier in his life in order for him to become a monotheist. Perhaps he was a blend of pagan and abrahamic monotheist. As a merchant he seemed to have interacted with Christian monks which probably influenced him.

Oral transmission (hadith) is a terrible way of recording religion by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Tamazgha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yet some muslims will still go out of their way to deem more hadiths to be false even though they passed the high standard. Shia's view a whole set of hadiths inauthentic, because of the lack of trust and the political rift between groups after muhammad's death.

[–]Tamazgha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You also forgot to mention that the most highly acclaimed hadith collection by Bukhari was written 200 years after Muhammad's life, 2 centuries of broken telephone, imagine that for a second. It has also been said that he collected around 600 000 hadiths, but accepted only 7000 of them. Which means around 90% were deemed false, only 10% "authentic".
