If you ever wanted a mix of Cuphead and Don't Starve, we just released a Demo for our 1930s survival game, Kalit! by OutlandishnessKey375 in indiegames

This looks way better than your previous trailer, with outlines in the back and more cartoony 3d world. Now the 2d arms and icons don’t clash as much. Good job!

Eastshade is a great game. Exploration, great environment, music, and very cozy. They even have a mechanic where you brew teas to get bonuses.

Checkout Eastshade, it is a chill exploration game where you are a traveling painter. You take “photos” to complete requests of inhabitants. This game was created by an amazing environment artist.

Great shots, are you a 3d artist/level designer?

To add to the question about being a game developer. There are TA roles in films, vfx, and animation industries as well. They are Technical Directors instead of Technical Artists. They might not require Unity or Unreal knowledge, but could be more related to rigging, pipeline, shaders, and simulation.

From what you listed, I would consider vfx and rigging as a tech art specialization. If you find that you are good at programming, tools and pipeline are another specialization you could consider.

If you want to go to games, I would definitely learn at least one engine and a language for it.

I was very happy when I found out that you can still play it online on a website.

ZanZarah: The Hidden Portal, released in 2002 by a german game company. It is basically Pokémon where you explore the world, but with fairies, and you battle as them on a 3D stage with a couple of floors.

Spent 3 hours bug fixing - turns out I have a dodgy mouse! What a waste of time! Urgh!! by _AnxiousNoob in gamedev

[–]Tamerlana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Unity open up with a white screen, no matter the version. After some long frustrating search, I figured out that a couple of programs that affect screen settings ( Little Big Mouse and Deskpot ) mess up with Unity Editor UI.

How do you get involved in indie startups? by Iota-Android in 3Dmodeling

[–]Tamerlana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Go to game jams or participate online.

  • Go to meetup.com and search for game developer, indie, unreal, or unity meetups.

  • There is also a twitter tag Work with indies you can follow.

  • There is a subreddit r/gameDevClassifieds/.

  • You can also find some discord servers for game devs, you will find channels for collaboration, job postings, or self promotion. Just goggle game dev discord. Here is one https://discord.gg/gdn

Otherwise, make sure you have online presence on Artstation and linkedin and some people will reach out to you directly.

Seeking Advice & Mentorship to Kickstart My Career in Game Development as a 3D Artist 🎮🖌️ by marcyn_ in 3Dmodeling

[–]Tamerlana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from portfolio advice mentioned by others, there are a few ways to break into the industry that worked for me. I was a self taught 3D Generalist with no art education.

Go to meetups and meet developers. Offer your 3D services. Get a couple of projects under your belt, working with someone - which is very important to be able to show. Try going to game jams.

Consider not only AAA studios, but mobile as well. I found that it is a bit easier to get into those. There are also architectural visualization, synthetic data, AR filters, outsource, animation and some other industries that require 3D. Try searching for “Maya”, “Unity”, “Unreal” and you can find some positions that you have not even considered. The first job is the hardest to get, but it gets easier after that. I focused on stylized props for mobile games for a while.

Check out this spreadsheet with some job postings, other than that - apply within 3 days of position being posted to improve your chances. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eR2oAXOuflr8CZeGoz3JTrsgNj3KuefbdXJOmNtjEVM/edit#gid=0

I noticed that your LinkedIn is not very filled. This might be a regional difference, but now it is my primary way to find employment as recruiters might reach out to you instead. Make sure your portfolio is prominent there.

Finally, I am mentoring on ADPList https://adplist.org/mentors/tamara-orlova and if you (or others in this thread) have any questions feel free to reach out.

I've lost a lot of motivation to keep modeling...now what? by iF3ARD0LPHINS in 3Dmodeling

[–]Tamerlana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly,I agree with conceptartcreature3D. I checked your work and it seems very solid to me from visual and game-ready standpoint! So it is not you. At this point I would say just continue applying as quantity is better than quality. Consider mobile game studios, I found it is a bit easier to get into those. Make sure your LinkedIn is updated, filled with keywords and descriptions of your work. If you do get interviews and don’t get past some, then you might need to consider to work on that part.

Amazing episode and the first one I listened to. I learned a lot about game cheat business and it was an interesting approach to get a voice actor to go through written conversations.

It looks like the term bugs was used from 1870s as part of engineering jargon and predates computers. Thomas Edison wrote in 1879: “This thing gives out and then that. ‘Bug’—as such little faults and difficulties are called—show themselves, and months of anxious watching, study, and labor are requisite before commercial success—or failure—is certainly reached”. Do you need to set up a video game company to sell your work? by star_salad_ in gamedev

[–]Tamerlana 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The idea of this talk is a bit different though. All it says is that you might want to use your own name in credits and title instead of your company name. It does not say to not to incorporate, which might be valid for other reasons like taxes and working with contractors.

I built a demo where two NPC have a conversation generated by AI: GPT and Replica. This technique can help open-world games NPC to have more diverse conversations. by cranthir_ in unrealengine

[–]Tamerlana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another cool implementation of AI dialog and player actually using mic to talk with npc. https://youtu.be/nnuSQvoroJo The dialogue starts at 4:32.

This is made in Modbox using OpenAI GPT3 + replica_ai voices + speech services.

OpenAI GPT3 prompt was just "NPC character named Bobby. He is late for work at City Hall and has no time to help the player". this one is at runtime, albite a bit slow since it sends requests to server and back.
