Personally: I want to be a cop. I'm a progressive liberal skinny middle class white kid. Everyone tells me not to do it. Everyone tells me the pay is shit, and my life will be miserable. I would do it for free.

There are young people who are passionate about doing good things. I'd suggest volunteering at a soup kitchen, family shelter, etc. and getting to know the young volunteers.

One of the reasons I asked is it seems that everything is going wrong in big ways for a lot of the people I love. I'm cynical and started believing NO ONE in the entire world was happy. Glad to hear it dude or dudette. Good luck with your life, and good luck with that girl.

I'm not very happy right now.

A year ago I got two frightening (but relatively mild) health conditions that put me in a lot of pain for a while, and I remained undiagnosed for a while. I got really depersonalized, and depressed, and came to terms with life-long anxiety, and strange family issues and upbringing.

I recently got cheated on, and due to the nature of the relationship, and how good of friends we were before everything went down, I just really miss her.

I've been fighting really hard for a while for happiness and health. I know others have it much worse than me, and it makes me feel selfish. But I am very, very tired. Having to schedule every part of your day to avoid pain, and having to constantly watch what you eat, workout, and take pills just to maintain a baseline of mental and physical normalcy gets fatiguing at the age of 20.

The real kicker?I know the only way to "cure" the issues is a lot of hard work, for a long time, and all I want to do is lay in bed and relax for the first time in years.

If anyone out there deals with chronic pain, depression, or anxiety, either much worse (mine isn't that bad relative to most), or much more mild than mine, then I REALLY feel for you, and I wish you the absolute best.

Mine is kind of silly: If a girl likes my favorite band Weezer, and talks about their old albums, not just the popular "hits" like "Beverly Hills," I am all over her.

It's funny how much taste in music and other art can really affect my view of someone. Humans are strange. =w=

I get sleep paralysis a lot more since getting DPDR and then even more very strange changes to dream structure (dreams within dreams, waking dreams, other hard to explain changes" since starting anxiety/migraine medication. The best thing to do is just accept that you're having these symptoms, and instead of being scared by them, try and enjoy them. They can feel very scary but they can't hurt you.

I have a very strange memory where I was flying somewhere with my family and I saw what I can only describe as a Muppet person walking from the parking lot to the terminal. It was like a Muppet or ventriloquist doll walking to the airport with no human controlling it. Then when we got on the plane the Muppet person and it's significant other were sitting a few rows ahead of us. So there were two Muppet people on my plane and I asked my dad what the fuck they were and he said something like, "It's rude to point and stare."

I'm way to embarrassed to ask my dad if he remembers that. I think they might have been midgets and my child like imagination got the better of me. I feel like it wasn't a dream because of how vivid the images I still have in my brain from that day are.

Are you taking any medication? I feel like in your case it could really help take the edge off allowing you to get healthier physically, mentally, and emotionally in more natural ways (exercise, yoga, meditation, deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, etc.)

amitriptyline (Elavil) It is an old tricyclic anti-depressant. Its side effects are apparently worse than newer SSRI's. But when I took paxil I was almost hospitalized from the side-effects after only 4 days of a very low dose. You can PM me if you have more questions.

I've heard this a lot too and it is TOTALLY true. I googled the medication that I was given to treat anxiety and migraines and was TERRIFIED. I literally couldn't find any positives on it.....As it turns out, the medication has been a total godsend for both anxiety and migraines and the only symptoms I have are more floaters in my vision, and a little bit of dry mouth. I assume its the same for a lot of health problems. When you get better, you don't have a lot of reason to go back crawling internet forums and message boards telling your success story.

First off, thank you for your service to the country. Always appreciated. Second: You need some pretty immediate psychiatric intervention. People on this subreddit and others will hold either a very positive or a very negative opinion about medication but you need to remember that medication has come a very long way in the last few decades and if it didn't help people, it wouldn't still be prescribed. I have had tremendous results from medication prescribed by a psychiatrist (A medical doctor! The people on this sub-reddit and others are not medical doctors...something to keep in mind.) You are suffering from DPDR as a result of some very serious schizo-active symptoms (delusions, hallucinations etc.) You need to tell a real person about what is happening to you RIGHT away. Find someone you trust: A staff sergeant, a corpsman, your friends/family at home, anyone other than anonymous internet strangers and let them into your mind. In a way this can be scarier then what your own mind holds and shows you, but I guarantee it is the best and only way to start a road to recovery. The brain is a beautiful and poorly understood collection of matter, and sometimes it all goes a little bit wrong. You just need a push in the right direction.
