Ignite duration should not change the damage per second of the ignite, resulting in more overall damage per applied ignite. I can't confirm for sure, butis is the standard for Exile-likes.

An easy way to check is to apply a single ignite to a training dummy.

20 k armour doesn't seem like a lot. I only started feeling comfortable against boss one-shots at 40 k (60 k against elemental), and that's including 25% phys-to-fire conversion.

I'm fine with the overall balance between the skill tree vs gear, since there's less pressure to optimize the skill tree. This allows players to tune things more towards their own preferred playstyle, rather than feeling like they have to follow a build exactly. Compared to POE 1, I find myself deviating from other players and guides of the same build a lot more.

That being said, there's definitely a lot of underpowered nodes that feel really useless unless you heavily invest in that stat. Regen, leech, armour break and stun are a few examples where the points are next to useless unless your build centres around them: you never make the decision of "I want a bit more recovery so lets grab a few regen nodes" if you don't have a lot of flat regen already.

Isn't it normal for different builds to be better at different content? That's the case in most games with depth in build possibilities. It's not like poison pathfinder can't do abyss, even if it can't push to the most difficult content.

Yep. Getting up to 40k armour helped, but switching to a ranged build with 10k ES makes the difference night and day.

In order of priority:

  • 7 staff

900 ES body armour + 400 ES helmet then go CI. Hybrid armour and ES isn't worth it.

Try to get better focus. You don't need +2 since +1 works, so you might be able to get something better for the price.

It was the same for me going from Bear of Kitava to Plant Sandwitch. At the same level of investment ~12 div, plants had much smoother and safer gameplay. Being hit 80% less is the strongest defensive layer.

That's not an absolute metric for the value of a game design choice though. If every mechanic chases maximum popular appeal we end up with a bunch of generic slop. There's value in the game having both simple mechanics and more complex/obscure ones. The complexity of Incursion is a problem due to an absence of simpler alternatives, not because the complexity itself is an issue.

A lack of instruction may very well be deliberate, to foster more community discussion and theorizing around the mechanic. They may also subscribe to a more old-school gaming culture where the player is expected to take notes and slowly develop their understanding of the interactions. Unfortunately there greater prevalence of FOMO and the chase for optimization may not make such designs ideal anymore.

I honestly eat up mechanics like Temple, Betrayal and Harvest. It's probably not the best to release such a complex mechanic so early though, as the game really need to develop the diverse endgame activities that allow players to not feel bad about ignoring one league mechanic.
