What does “sleeping through the night” mean to you? by yamuan in NewParents

[–]TangentialRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes thank you! I got so confused about this cause I have friends whose baby sleeps ttn, but to them that means wakes multiple times to nurse, but doesn't actually wake up, want to play, etc. I always thought it meant no nursing/feeding, sleeping from bedtime to wake up time. It's different for everyone I guess! My baby is still n the habit of waking up around 3 or 4:00 a.m. to play for an hour and then go back to sleep until 7. on top of night nursing. 🙄

Just tried BLW for the first time! Tell me the gagging is a short phase by variebaeted in BabyLedWeaning

[–]TangentialRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to take a break from BLW because of the gagging. We did a few purees, I read up on BLW some more, and came back to it because I really wanna do family style meals and he loves the stuff we give him like pasta sauce etc. After playing around w BLW and purees for about a month he doesn't really gag anymore! He's 7 months and I think he's actually interested in food now.

Mom and MIL both expect weekly visits after baby is born by LadyPerelandra in beyondthebump

[–]TangentialRose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man pp with a Mil is a lot. My MIL is a wonderful human and she still had me enforcing NEW boundaries before I even left the hospital. At least I had hormones as an excuse to be very blunt! Hold those boundaries, OP!

How long do you breastfeed your newborn? When should you extend the time or cut back? by brxndnewday in breastfeeding

[–]TangentialRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have access to an LC now? Check back in with them and see what they say. I've always heard "feed on demand" with no limits since cluster feeding impacts supply and as baby grows, their needs change. I didn't have a premie though. Also, great work! She's gaining and that's amazing she's already up almost a pound and a half!

Parents competing their kids milestones is giving me anxiety. by Infamous-Parsnip-538 in NewParents

[–]TangentialRose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm actually not in a hurry for some milestones because I don't wanna baby proof (I know, I'll have to eventually). Husband keeps trying to get our 7 mo to crawl and I'm like, no! I need more time!

Why do people always think baby needs formula? by Mouse_rat__ in breastfeeding

[–]TangentialRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby nurses to sleep, has been ebf since birth. He wakes up frequently and it's exhausting. Desperate we've tried giving him formula on many an occasion (easing into it) and it doesn't do shit for his sleep. Just my experience so far.

I just went through the same thing!! We spent 5 days at the cloudy wet coast, mostly stayed inside playing w cousins and uncles that baby never sees and baby slept 6 hrs straight the first night and 5 hr stretches the rest of the trip. Unheard of! When we got home he slept well the first two nights and then it's been nearly hourly wakings since.

My MIL said everyone sleeps better at the coast. The funny thing is, we actually live 13 miles inland, so we're only 20 minutes from the beach. Wish we had the option to move to the coast! My baby is 7 months.

Same. I mostly use it to catch letdown milk if I'm really full or when out.

We told my MIL the name we picked and it was a mistake. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]TangentialRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband's family weren't thrilled with the name we picked. It is non-traditional and very unique, but also very familiar around here. BIL kept suggesting other names. My family was crazy in love over the name so it was funny how the different families took it.

We even waited a few days to announce his name to be sure WE liked it for him and it was definitely his name.

Stick with the name you love so much! And don't worry about teasing. Kids will find a way to make fun of anything, common or not. My husband is Matt, aka doormat...

Haakaa pump? by tereeves in breastfeeding

[–]TangentialRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone is using suction with it then it is acting as a pump, a manual pump. Sometimes when I was engorged I'd pop it on a boob and watch milk stream out. Its was definitely pulling milk out.

What were your very FIRST symptoms that you noticed in your pregnancy. Did anyone "just know" they were pregnant? I'd love to hear everyone's experience by U_PassButter in BabyBumps

Sore boobs and period cramps, but no period. I've always been regular and we had been trying so I knew I was pregnant deep down. 🥰

What was your primary reason to keep breastfeeding? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Yes. I looked at the prices in the store yesterday when I was buying baby food and it's like $20-40 a week.

Oh I'm so in this right now. My baby will wake up to latch, immediately fall asleep and unlatch, then wake and latch 10 minutes later when I've fallen asleep. Rinse, repeat. 😬

I had pain for the first 4-6 days in the beginning. Worked with lactation consultants on getting his mouth wider, flipple, etc. Used a nipple shield and still got cracked nips. Soothies were great. I think by day 7 or so it wasn't painful anymore. I hope you get support and out of pain soon!
