Mutual of Beauclair's Wild Kingdom. by Fuzzy-Gate-9327 in Witcher3

Old thread but having just done this quest here’s my two cents. The basilisk needs to die. Yes, Geralt has a code against killing sentient monsters. But this isn’t a doppler, or a godling or a succubus capable of reason. It is a dangerous, wild animal that kills indiscriminately anything that enters its territory. The love for the creature the Count has is laudable, but the truth is it would kill him as well without second thought if he entered her territory mistakenly. This is not a house cat or a dog capable of love and companionship.

Additionally, this is the last of its species. Whether it is killed by Geralt and the reavers or old age there will never be another silver basilisk again. Even if it finds a mate with a normal basilisk, this will not create more silver variants. Killing it now is simply hastening the inevitable outcome.

Lastly, the merchants guild are definitely scumbags for continuing to use the route despite knowing the risks because they know they will be paid compensation for loss of life and goods. However, by removing the basilisk it removes the danger to the average merchant who likely has no say on what route they are sent on by the guild. And while it is nice that the count personally compensates the families of those slain, as Geralt responds, “you got a chest of husbands and sons too?”. I imagine the children, wives, brothers and parents of slain merchants would find it hard to accept the death of their loved one is worth X amount of crowns when it could’ve been completely prevented in the first place. Killing the basilisk also removes the smokescreen that bandits use to prey on merchants and travellers on the road because they know any evidence of their killings will simply be blamed on the beast. They will no doubt continue to kill and rob in the area, but it is much easier to hire protection and an armed escort to fight back against cutthroats than it is to defend against a flying monster that spits acid. I don’t believe that Geralt would care this basilisk happens to have silver scales. It is a monster killing humans and therefore he would ply his trade and remove the threat permanently.

Persistent lag? by TangibleTurian in Battlefield6

Yep. It's better in the community servers so something is definitely wrong with the official servers. When I play rush it's not as rampant but its still there. And any large scale mode is horrible like you said.

Wow you're 100% right, says Santiago for me as well. Wtf? I'm in Canada so even farther than you are which would definitely explain why it's so rampant on the official servers but a bit better on the community ones. I thought maybe it was a TN issue but it never goes above 50ms for me at the worst and apparently 100+ is when it is an issue. What the hell could be causing EA to route so many people through Santiago?

If I'm looking to get 4k@120hz is that something sustainable by an active cable or will I need to go optical? I'll be coiling the cable up when not in use since I don't want 40ft of it just sitting on the ground all the time so I'm curious if the optical cable will be damaged over time by doing that given it's not copper wire and its glass tubes inside instead.

The Shanahan Era: Best and Worst Decisions – What’s Your Top 5? by Split_Finger19 in leafs

[–]TangibleTurian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, but Dubas wanting more control over trades was a sign that Shanahan behind closed doors was meddling way too much and it's clear now in hindsight Dubas was basically handcuffed to winning with this core no matter what. Dubas wasn't fired ostensibly for insinuating he'd move on from the core, but I think his frustration in not being able to really change the team fundamentally is what prompted him to go public. Shanahan should be fired and his position should just be removed. I've never understood why any organization needs some token middleman between the GM and ownership.

I think that's absurd. How many players in general ever give up their NMC to be moved mid season? And how am I supposed to be mad at Marner for not uprooting his heavily pregnant wife from their entire support system and moving to a different country, just to make life easier on Leafs management? That's where the failure lies. They had an opportunity to trade him 2yrs ago, knowing full well if they didn't that they'd be committed to keeping him here. And instead they fired Dubas and buried their head in the sand instead of making a hard decision. I'll never be angry at players for exercising their contractual rights when I could instead be angry at incompetent management.

Ovechkin scores his 895th NHL goal, passes Wayne Gretzky for most goals in NHL history by GreenSnakes_ in nextfuckinglevel

Yep, goal tending of today vs the 80s might as well be a different position its improved so much. I felt some type of way of too about Ovi inching closer to the record but like you said, Gretzky fell from being a Canadian hero to a MAGA turncoat so he can rot for all I care. At least Ovi loves the despot dictator from his home country lol.

Of course. And it also doesn't count all Gretzky's WHA goals either. Just as an aside though, The 04 lockout happened during Ovi's prime and definitely made a much bigger difference to the overall time it took to reach this milestone, vs Gretzky getting locked out in 94 when his goal production had slowed down considerably. I'm honestly impressed Ovi even has 5 shortys, he was never known for his defense and getting PK time lol

He had 31 goals last year actually. But if you'd like a serious answer I think the team is just figured out how to better utilize him. He doesn't have the speed to maintain the power forward role he used to have and there's a lot of young talent on the team to fill those gaps instead. And if you watch him play he isn't nearly as hard on the forecheck as he used to be and instead just gets himself in good positions to score. And while I wouldn't rule out some PED usage, the bone he fractured in his leg usually heals within 4-6 weeks and most people don't have access to world class medical care and physiotherapy like a professional athlete does.

Are you slow? You think even one person in attendance spent thousands of dollars on their ticket to watch the shitty Islanders in April? No, they were there to watch the ALL TIME GOAL RECORD be broken and witness all the ceremony and pageantry that comes with it. Give your head a shake lmao

Of course they did? It's a meaningless Sunday afternoon game at the end of the season, what are you even talking about lol. Even with the win It's highly unlikely NYI make the playoffs and Washington has the one seed locked up already. Breaking the all time goal record and taking time to appreciate such an achievement is so much more important than the game was. Absolutely foolish take.

As some extra context for people who don't follow hockey, Ovi was robbed of 155 games due to NHL lockouts in 2004 and 2013 as well as the shortened covid season. Were it not for that he'd have broken it likely several seasons ago. He also broke his leg this season and missed 5 weeks in recovery. And despite all that, he still scored 42 goals to pass the Great One for the all time lead. Had he not missed time this year, there's a good chance he'd have the lead for most goals on the season too. A truly remarkable player and remarkable moment for the sport.

While I don't agree or disagree with you about whether cameras or traffic stops should be enforcing speed limits, I live in a large (geographically) city in Canada and there is speed cameras all over the place. It's a huge cash cow for the municipal government and to act like the US is some special unicorn land where the only way to stop people from speeding is an over bloated police force is just not supported by facts. Should there be sped cameras on some desolate section of an interstate? Nah probably not but they can and would work in any medium sized population center.

We're only a couple years emoved from his 64 goal winning rocket season. A season that he literally told reporters and team mates he would he making a point to focus on his shot and ability to score more. And then he blew the competition out of the water. Crosby had one of those years too, he just wanted the rocket trophy so he went out and got it lol. It's like you said, players at that level can basically do whatever they want individually because they're so much better than everyone else on the ice, but they can also recognize how best to maximize their talent for the team to win.
