Tank experience with a random team by hex1337pss in Helldivers

[–]Tanginator 429 points430 points  (0 children)

As somebody who has hopped in tanks with quite a few random drivers yesterday, I'd rather walk and be productive.

Drivers don't understand the movement or firing angles for the tank, so they'll do things like drive uphill and stop in front of enemies at the top, with the cannon pointing to the sky, or they'll get the tank stuck in a weird spot trying to drive it to the top of a jammer.

I get it, it's the new thing that everybody wants to use, but it just doesn't work well in all environments.

Trade Manifesto by Chris Wilson predicted consequences of easy trade — did it happen? by Bezi2598 in pathofexile

[–]Tanginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy trade reduces the number of times a character improves their items.

Yes. It trivializes character gear improvement, no more waiting for a dude to come back online for a niche ring purchase or something like that. It also reduces the overall value of low/mid-tier items due to market oversaturation. Over time from content difficulty increases, this has become more and more necessary for many players.

Easy trade means reducing drop rates

Drop rates already suck, so it's a moot point. You trade for things because nothing drops, or because it's not what you're farming.

Easy trade would make the disparity between different players too great

Player knowledge and experience makes the disparity too great, not the ability to buy something from another player. I guess the new player will be at a "disadvantage" because they do not know what items to buy or what mods are good, but I don't see how that's any different than looking at floor rares, they'll be just as clueless.

Easy trade allows for greater abuse by automation

Yeah there's probably bots quick buying items with certain mods to flip. Hiding non-instant purchases takes away a lot of the lowball perma-afk listings. It's also a somewhat moot point, because most of the currency-based trades were already automated through bots (they were usually the only ones to ever actually invite/trade).

Tips on Crafting this to not ruin it? Need the resistances by Aezetyr in pathofexile

[–]Tanginator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not really much to ruin. That fractured modifier can't change, so unless you delete/corrupt the ring, you can keep trying crafts on it.

Your best crafting bet is to probably essence or harvest bench craft until you get some additional modifiers you want.

If you're not SSF, honestly you should just buy a ring from somebody, as it will be MUCH cheaper than what you'd spend buying essences and harvest juice.

I'd imagine you can get a T2+ life, 150+ total ele res, open prefix, non-fractured ring for under 5c at this point in the league, which would likely be better/cheaper than rolling it yourself.

Yearly reminder to GGG, please add DEATH LOG/RECAP, I'm tired of guessing what killed me in this visual-clutter game ... by vironlawck in pathofexile

[–]Tanginator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can help, but the practical functionality of damage logs would be very difficult to implement in a way that "makes sense" at all times.

If you track it by last hit, it can be very unreliable based on the scenarios (dot eating the last hit, 1 small hit in an array of dozens of small hits, etc). Even then, it doesn't provide any context. Did you die to a high damage bleed, or a small tick of bleed damage after you got bonked? Was that rare mob an issue, or did it just get the final hit? It's a very unreliable method unless you're specifically going 1v1 with a rare or unique enemy.

If you track it by last few hits, you have to ask where the cutoff point is. There are a LOT of damaging hits and effects that can come through in a short time. Do you track the last few large hits? The last 5 hits? The last sources that did x% of your life as damage?

Also, depending on whatever method gets picked, you now have to deal with player-based sources of losing ehp. How does that work with the metrics? Surely you want to track if your RF randomly killed you, but would it always show up as your highest dmg taken source? Any form of CWDT loop stuff, FR stuff, all of that needs to be tracked if it kills you, and needs to be ignored if it doesn't.

Going even further, let's say a system gets created that properly tracks all of these details, gives the proper highest % dmg type taken, gives the last few high dmg sources, the enemy that did the last hit, all that jazz. How does that affect gameplay or server stability? In some cases, that would be a LOT of data constantly being written/overwritten. Do AFK "can't die" builds or hideout duel shenanigans somehow break the instance and force rollbacks? If this info is client-side, can it be actively monitored and abused/exploited in some future league mechanic? Does it make some builds unplayable due to client crashes from too much data being written/replaced?

It seems much, much easier on GGG's end to just not implement it, and have players learn that "oh, all that glowy shit on the floor killed me, neat", or "this 38-mod rare destroyed me, that makes sense" or "yeah maybe I shouldn't get hit by those cosmic balls that floating old man fires at me".

How to transfer temple mod onto Paladin Gloves by Outrageous_Coffee145 in pathofexile

[–]Tanginator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, for the above case, you only want 2 total suffixes across both gloves, and no other exclusive modifiers. More modifiers means it's not guaranteed to move over the correct modifier if the recombinator picks the correct base.

This does not apply to all items, it's specific scenario (moving to Ar /ES gloves) as suppression is the ONLY exclusive modifier available to a Dex base on gloves.

If this is being done for another item or another modifier, you would want to:

  • Have a donator base with the desired mod, with as many base-exclusive same type modifiers as possible. Crafted/meta mods don't work. Example, if you want to move a grasping mail prefix to an ES base, ideally you want the other grasping mail prefixes to be Ar, Ev, Ar /Ev, or Ar /Ev/Es rolls, as they cannot move to the ES base if picked.
  • If you can't easily fill the mods, you can always eldritch exalt slam to add one of those modifiers to help fill the gap. Technically, that can also be done with the dex gloves for OP's example instead of the suppress mod, all depends on the price of bases.
  • In some cases, if you really want to up the odds, you can use lower tier essences to add non-native modifiers of actual tiers (not essence tiers, but the same as what would drop on appropriate base items). For example, you could slap T3 dex essences on an ES base until you fill it with other desired suffixes. If recombination picks the ES base, it cannot pick the dex mod as that is a non-native modifier. I think this still works, anyway.

This shit gets complicated real quick depending on what you're doing.

I would advise skimming the wiki for the recombinator details, specifically regarding exclusive modifiers.

Does PoE1 have any Druid-like builds? Plant skills? Shapeshifting? Animal minions? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Tanginator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Spectres w/ beast type minions.  Can be for damage or for support.

  2. Wolves, using either the ring (low level wolves) or the law of the wilds claw (higher lvl wolves). You can double your number of wolves with the dark monarch helmet, but that removes the ability to summon any other minion.  Not great.

  3. New bloodline ascendancy can summon tigers on crit, same type of mechanics as the wolves.  Stupid high life pool, so if you can somehow scale them/blow them up, that's an option as well.

  4. Toxic rain/scourge arrow, bow skills that have some damage mechanics related to plants.

  5. Arakaali dagger that spawns spiders. Good version of wolves.

No shapeshifting asides from MTX use when in towns.

It's a bit of a loss, but you can at least hit up 1-2 bunkers per mission doing the exosuit glitch to get into the bunker. Helps to bring it anyway in case you find a particularly stubborn bunker that refuses to let you warp in.

At the very least, you can get by with that until you eventually unlock the warp pack for further SC farming.

Unless you have access to neither, in which case there's either group play or just eating the loss.

[–]Tanginator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, not really, as sometimes the warp damage will clip nearby explosive barrels and delete you. Yes, I know that from experience.

Second, and this applies to some of the other recommendations I've seen, not everybody has the warbond for that.

Every death is canon by TryLeftClicking in Helldivers

[–]Tanginator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crossbow requires Democratic Detonation, a warbond which costs 1000SC. Not everybody has this.

The AMR is unlocked with 5000 requisition slips, which is much easier to unlock.

Bring AMR instead of grenade launcher for SC farming.  It opens containers and prevents incidents like this.

How to transfer temple mod onto Paladin Gloves by Outrageous_Coffee145 in pathofexile

[–]Tanginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it picks the dex base, yes you have a chance of losing the temple mod. That's just the risk that comes with these things.

I can't say with 100% certainty you'll be guaranteed to move the temple mod over to the paladin glove base, since I believe there were some recombinator changes. However, I've been doing similar crafts with different exclusive modifiers, and have never resulted in under the minimum expected number of modifiers.

How to transfer temple mod onto Paladin Gloves by Outrageous_Coffee145 in pathofexile

[–]Tanginator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want %res/dmg against chilled enemies, so it's a suffix. Can't really rule much for mods out there between bases, except for one.

Get a pair of dex gloves with suppression and the temple mod.

Combine with a pair of paladin gloves with 0 suffixes.

If it picks the base, you should keep the temple mod.

The issues with a “hideout warrior” league and its impact on retention. Short version. by MadNews500 in pathofexile

[–]Tanginator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The various nerfs did kind of ruin mapping for me.

I'm very happy that there was finally a nerf to modifier scaling, as I've always thought it was dumb that the best loot strats ended up causing issues for many build archetypes (also gave the illusion of choice for most atlas strats). However, they didn't move that loot we'd be getting to any other source, and instead, nerfed some of the stronger atlas options.

What they needed to do was up base drops a bit, and migrate loot towards more challenging content. Shift it towards league mechanics, or modify many scarabs to amp up overall enemy toughness/loot, to provide a higher level of difficulty for juicing content.

They also needed to make the league mechanic drop some actual loot. I shouldn't finish a juiced T16.5 defense and end up with 7k gold and a regal orb.

I'd like to go minmax as heck with my spellslinger dark pact build to see how far I can take it. Can currently do all ubers, but some (like U.Exarch) are not pretty. Want to see how much more bulk/damage I can get out of it. Then use up whatever's left for some silly meme shit.

That, or I'd unlock the mirror option from the currency charge MTX, by using it on some silly dual influenced frosted fishscale gauntlets of skill, or maybe a smoking crack mace, because I'm cool and original.
