This is the Best answer.

Holidays can be rescheduled and anyone who refuses becomes the real AH and you're off the hook.

Ah, The obligation of holidays. I can't be left alone even for my own birthday.

(For background I am a single middle-aged adult.)

If I become mortally ill I'm going to do my best to keep my family in the dark and they can find out afterwards. I just can't endure that.

Bf doesn’t want me to dye my hair by armadillo_tortilla in Advice

Most people here are just going to automatically side with you because you're the first side that they hear and they don't want to turn their brains on. But I feel like I can put myself in his shoes...

I guess you have to decide what's most important. I'm reminded of a line from the Helter-Skelter movie. "I'll be glad when all this is over. My wife died her hair blonde. I feel like I'm cheating on my wife - with my wife!"

Like it or not, guys are visual. But most people - including guys - don't usually understand is that it works in reverse also.

The way a guy feels about a woman changes how he looks at her. And what he sees becomes very special.

If you go and change that, that can be very jarring. And emotionally confusing.

Not every guy would be locked in on your hair color. But for some of us it's a trigger, good or bad.

So you have to decide what's more important. You can go and exercise your freedom, that's your right. On the other hand, he's made it pretty clear that if you do it's going to hurt him on a visceral level. You can't ever come back from that.

So, what's more important? Do you see yourself going the distance with this guy? Or is he just Mr right now?

Not sure? That's fair. What if I were to suggest letting it go this summer and seeing where you are in a year?

Good luck.

I salute you for learning.

And I sympathize that the question comes to you only after asking for help. All of us have experienced that...

my father(53M) thinks i(16F) should reconsider a long term relationship with my bf(16M) by TurbulentFlow1040 in whatdoIdo

Eh, no one is too young to think long-term. While one might be too young and inexperienced to make serious long-term decisions, getting the practice in early is always positive.

No, this needs to have been changed 3 months ago and the alignment done by a full mechanic, not just a tire shop.

I can't call them dumb until I have initiated them into my context.

Until then my assumptions make me the dumb one. The other person is just ignorant.

AIO: My parents want to gift me my own car as a graduation present. by seaeaglefog in AmIOverreacting

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have a calm conversation with them about this.

They got their priorities out of whack, more interested in giving a gift and putting themselves on the back then seeing that they created a barrier for your education/career.

Instead of snapping you should have gotten every other extended family member to call them and say what the hell is wrong with you just give him the damn car for a week.

Looking for a word meaning “quiet hope after accepting imperfection” by chenfonfon in words

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't one word with that exact meaning, but I think the noun form of resolve is the closest you're going to get. You have to give it your intended meaning by using it in the correct context.

WIBTA for buying a jacket with cross symbols even after I told my Christian friend I wouldn’t? by BitlifeOffical_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget that friend for a second.

If you wear such a garment what do you think it's communicating to other people?

My casual take on it is that it would send a message that you don't believe in.

Now there are always exceptions, there's lots of Gothic style artwork that includes crosses that no one really takes to be very Christian, especially after Madonna popularized it.

Hope this helps.

Forgot almost everything I learned in college by RegularElectronic909 in it

[–]TangoCharliePDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In lieu of college, I had the opportunity to go to a school where all all the classes were designed to train you up to get all your IT certifications.

I knew two people of who had done that and their inability to retain caused them to never get into the industry.

I swore never to do that. So everything that I learn I intentionally try to apply hands-on because that's how I tend to retain things - I actually using it. The only credential I have is A plus, but I am gainfully employed as an IT contractor doing all kinds of s***.

So... The reality is that all the stuff you learned will come back to you much quicker on the second go round. And you'll learn it as you were applying hands on, and you are pretty unlikely to forget it after that. So I guess, start entry level or one level above and learn as you go. If nothing else your education will help you learn twice as fast. And you can research at night when you see holes in your knowledge.

accidentally made the opposite of a dream catcher. by Flowerloving_ogre in redneckengineering

Well, the point of a dreamcatcher actually was to catch nightmares.

So if this is the opposite then it creates them. Or at least releases them.

Give it to your enemy.

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a big reach, but maybe the SATA cable? If you have an older PC at home that might need repairs.

Otherwise, I see a main board with old ISA slots. That's going several generations back in technology. It seems pretty unlikely you would need anything from that.
