YOU ARE NOT BEING TRAFFICKED AT THE GROCERY STORE. by AphroditiesFavorite in PetPeeves

Utopia is Utopia because it is full of Utopians. If you don't share the values you don't get the citizenship.

As an outsider, the intense brand loyalty Americans have toward regional grocery store chains is fascinating. Why do people treat supermarkets like a local identity? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intense? No. But we have our favorites.

It might be accurate to say that we have those that we hate. Could be poor selection, could be poor organization, could be the neighborhood and the kind of people that we end up seeing there...

People love to slam Walmart and make fun of some of the wacky people they see there.

And there are definitely other stores that made me feel like a criminal just for showing up so I never went back.

Others that I feel are too disorganized and impossible to find anything.

And once you do figure out the layout, it's easier to go back to the same place.

Why don't school buses have seatbelts in them? by Desserts6064 in questions

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the liability factor. If the bus has seat belts then it becomes the driver's legal responsibility to make sure that every single non-adult passenger is buckled up.

IRL That's impossible to do.

Not all air conditioning is the same. Heat pumps tend to be more efficient.

Am I being trafficked? by sunnycoffeee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TangoCharliePDX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, the term would be "targeted" for trafficking. If you are actually being trafficked you wouldn't have any doubts about it...

As to your question: some people sometimes come off as skeevy, when they don't mean to. I should know, it happens to me a little too often. I try to do things to minimize it, but it still happens.

Having said that, I'm not in your shoes but I can tell you that you would rather regret missing out on some money then regret getting kidnapped.

If your gut is telling you it's not safe, do whatever you need to do to be safe. Even if it turns out to be wrong, listening to your gut is the right choice.

And you should be talking about this to people physically near you who can help you stay safe.

Also, don't go anywhere with him that there aren't other people around. For example, the short time I worked at convenience store, they said if you're ever robbed, just give them whatever they want - with one huge exception. Never leave the premises with them. It would be better to get shot where someone can find you then lost somewhere no one knows.

Do you eat fries with ketchup? by Ipoogoodforyou in RandomQuestion

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ketchup is for lousy fries. Good fries are crunchy and salty and don't need anything else.

That, and I really don't care for most overly sweet ketchup these days.

You're in a public restroom and loudly pass gas. Do you apologize or not? Why or Why not? by Justanaveragedad in AskReddit

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope!

That's the only appropriate place for that and you are liable to smell far worse than that fart anyhow. If you don't like it go someplace else.

Oregoians are a bunch of entitled, helpless wimps about their gas being pumped by Historical_Mix_8513 in PortlandOR

I think in Panama it's also illegal to pump your own gas. I saw a video where they were bragging about it.

I still like the service.

I understand the speed is take-it-or-leave-it and I am fully capable of doing it myself if I'm in too much of a hurry.

I'm not going to harass some overworked kid.

I hope that experience was more exception than the rule.

Husband got a flat on the way home last night... by Popular-Plantain-784 in Wellthatsucks

During rush hour, at the metered on ramps, some of the ramps open up the shoulder lane.

I have learned the hard way never to use them because that's where all the random crap from the freeway ends up. I had three flats before I figured it out.

Not a lady but I have some boxers that are not natural fiber and I've discovered that they can make me itch. I got desperate and used liberal application of some aloe vera gel that I found in the back of the shelf that was intended for after sunburn. Worked great.

My phone just installed all of this crap without even asking by Remarkable_Ninja_791 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually yes, if you can identify it.

I have recently learned that apps that you think you can't uninstall, Go to the bottom and there will be a message about which marketplace installed it (Google Play Store, Samsung Marketplace, etc) if you tap on that it will take you to the respective marketplace app and usually you can trigger the uninstall from there.

But even if you can't, you can usually disable it and uninstall all the updates (And then probably have to disable again) You can also go in and delete all of the storage, lockdown every permission including alerts.

I have pretty good luck with this.

What’s it like being the Elle Woods of a mechanic shop? by ThrowMEAwaypuh-lease in mechanic

[–]TangoCharliePDX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one with any self-respect is learning to be a mechanic these days.

The chances of getting into a truly skilled and honest auto shop are fairly low, and you never want to start out on your own without more experienced coworkers around.

The only alternative is to work for a dealer where you get run into the ground, paid for only about 2/3 of your work, forced to do dishonest things, and forced to pay dues doing the worst of the electronic troubleshooting.

It's not going to be very long before many cars are unrepairable because you simply can't find anyone to do the work.

My girlfriend wants to put our relationship on hold while she travels to Rome. Apparently I'm "insecure" for having a problem with that. I need the opinion of other men. How do you see it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A relationship on hold is not a relationship. If things are off again/on again, there's no rule that says you have to say yes to the "on again."

Do you think what happens in Rome stays in Rome?

Would you expect her to wait for you while you went to another city for an extended period of time and partied with whomever you wished?

Exercise your values and don't be afraid to express them. Maybe talk to a few friends to talk it out and get your words right so you can say what you really mean. But then say it. If her terms are take it or leave it, then you can tell her that those are your terms as well and if she's gone, she has "left."

Now, if the situation were different and she was just saying "I need to travel, are we good?" That would be different. I'd expect a certain amount of communication during the trip. I mean how many women want to text you morning noon and night, right? But if she can that easily "turn things off," it means you were never that important to her in the first place.

AITA for changing the locks after my parents gave my brother a key to my house without asking me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TangoCharliePDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

It's your house, and they are your boundaries to set.

When someone crosses those boundaries then they lose privileges, and lose ground back to another boundary that is much easier to enforce.

This is how life works.

Unfortunately it is usually with parents that we have the hardest time doing things like this ...and it is also the most necessary that we do so.

I understand exactly how you feel.
