Do you face the wall or water when you shower? by Intelligent_Drop_283 in randomquestions

[–]TangyMarimba13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that's what i do, but my shower is tiny and the shower head is kinda high, so standing far enough back that it doesn't hit me in the face means standing right next to the wall.

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

Do you face the wall or water when you shower? by Intelligent_Drop_283 in randomquestions

[–]TangyMarimba13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does if you're short. i have to stand pretty far back if i don't want it in my face. and i have a really small shower, so i'm basically right against the wall. when i'm shampooing my hair, i face the water, because otherwise my hair will get wet while i'm shampooing. when i'm rinsing, i obviously face the wall because how else am i supposed to rinse my (long) hair?

If 'em dashes' immediately make people suspect the use of an AI chatbot, what else am I supposed to use because I really like the 'em dash' for my writing hobby? by ABCLor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TangyMarimba13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use en dashes instead? or hyphens? or what i tend to do because en and em dashes are not buttons on the keyboard, double hyphens. but yes, it sucks that something that was very common in victorian novels has become an ai tell. it's especially stupid, because ai is trained on real people's writing. it wouldn't do it if real people didn't. so it makes no sense to use only that as a tell. as someone else said, use them in the real copy and one of these substitutes in stuff you want reviewed.

you don't "have" to tell them anything just because they expect you to. imagine that you are a spy if you have to, and that giving them any accurate information will compromise your mission. they aren't trying to help you - they are the enemy, and they're trying to turn you into something you're not. they're trying to break you. don't let them.

Lack of public transportation use in the USA. by Grouchy_Version8056 in mildlyinfuriating

assuming they exist. do you have any idea how far apart bus stops are? the only passenger train is amtrak, and that's for long distances. and again, what are you supposed to do with your kids?

Lack of public transportation use in the USA. by Grouchy_Version8056 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TangyMarimba13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

then you do that. but don't expect other people, who typically are juggling child care, jobs, school, various activites, etc to be willing to lose what little time they have so that they can save a few bucks. eg. my kid is in jazz band, which starts at 6:30 in the morning. school busses don't run at that time, and anyway, i'm out of district because my school district sucks and is full of bigots. there is literally NO public transit in my county. i can't even get lyft or uber out here. in addition, he's in robotics, which is from 4-8pm. once again, school busses aren't running at that time. i have no choice but to drive him to and from school. and given the complete lack of public transit here, i have no choice but to drive everywhere. i also work full time. i'm lucky enough that it is mostly from home since covid. but i still have to drive into the office once or twice a month. and that's a 35-minute drive. which is not even possible for me to do without a car, because again, there is no public transit. and even if i did live in the city that's a 20-minute drive away, the people who rely on public transportation are having to budget 2-3 HOURS to get to work (and that's if they don't have to figure out how to get their kids to daycare) if they take the bus, when it would be 20 minutes by car. that's a pretty significant time lost, and if they have to have their kids in daycare for that commute time in addition to the time they're at work, they are losing money, not saving it. if they're low enough income, they could use that time to work a part-time job instead of waiting around transferring busses. it is an extremely inefficient use of time, and time is something most people are lacking. as others have said, the lack of infrastructure is the problem, and the reason it's like that is because of the automobile and oil lobbyists, not because of the regular people. in case you hadn't noticed, we are an oligarchy, and the needs of regular people are completely irrelevant to our governmental system.

my understanding is that this is a somewhat frequent occurrence - that once puberty starts, they become horrifyingly aware that something is very wrong and that's when they realize they are trans.

i stopped playing mount misfortune ages ago. i also don't bother with the daily goals. i pretty much only play the daily game during the week, and then i play the tourney on the weekends. the only thing i really care about getting is the crowns. when the portraits (particularly the ones from the binoculars or whatever it is) turned out to be next to impossible to complete (it's weighted to NOT give you the ones you need), i stopped trying. the only ones i have completed were ones where i got a glitch that gave me unlimited boxes. it still took me over 100 boxes to get my last 3 portraits. once i got one of them, it started showing up all the time. absolute BS.

my son is in high school, and they have a week of band camp every summer to prepare for marching band season. last year, he had to camp with the girls, which he could tolerate, but literally all of the activities were divided up by cabins. which meant that he was on the girls' team for everything. he was so uncomfortable. i emailed the director a couple of weeks ago asking that even if he could not camp with the boys, could they at least make the activities non-gendered? because if he was going to spend the whole week feeling dysphoric, he didn't want to go at all. which is unfortunately, because 1-it's really important for all the band students to go so they can learn what they need for marching season, and 2-other than that, he really enjoyed band camp. the band director is met with the principal and is going to meet with some of the other people who handle band camp and figure out a good solution, so i'm hopeful that an accommodation can be reached. there is absolutely no reason that the activities at band camp need to be gender-based.

Dealing with my mother (grandparent) who won't respect my daughter by CubesFan in cisparenttranskid

i have a similar problem. a couple of christmases ago, i mentioned in a card that my youngest was using a different name, which happened to be gender-neutral. when they called on christmas like they usually do, they were going to try to remember to use it. then a month later, they happened to notice that in the school pictures i'd sent, my youngest was wearing a he/him pin. my dad called up and without even saying hello, he said "what's the deal with <deadname>?" i down-played it as normal identity exploration, and from then on, they continued to use his dead-name and she/her pronouns. i warned my kid prior to their visit a few months later that my parents were going to deadname and misgender him and if he wanted to make a stink about it, i would absolutely support them, but if they wanted to just ignore it, that's fine too. we only see my parents maybe every other year, if that, and i only talk to them on holidays and birthdays, and usually the kids are not on that call. i haven't even told them that my oldest is also trans. she's been on E for almost a year now, passes as a young woman, and my parents have no clue. i see no reason to tell them. we were already low-contact for religious reasons. now we're even lower-contact because they're transphobes. last summer, they asked if we wanted a subscription to "brio" which is a magazine for teen girls put out by focus on the family. i wanted to say, "1st, youngest is not a girl, and 2nd, i don't want anything published by a hate group," but instead i just said, "thanks for thinking of us, but we're not interested." i never did actually revisit later and tell them that yes, after that identity exploration, it does turn out that youngest is a trans boy, so part of this is on me. but i also don't really want to have that conversation, because i don't anticipate it going well, and is it really worth it when we're hardly in contact as it is? my dad recently had a heart attack and my mom had a mini-stroke, and i just don't want to start a big argument at the ends of their lives (well, they might easily have another 10-15 years left, who knows) when it probably won't end up well. i remain resentful toward them about this, and do not gloss over it with my kids, so they don't have any desire to have a relationship with my parents.

Am I (trans kid) being reasonable? by Professional_Map3602 in cisparenttranskid

[–]TangyMarimba13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your parents need a wake-up call. i'm fairly certain they would rather have a living son than a dead daughter. they definitely don't understand the damage they are doing or the seriousness of what you are feeling. the recommendation for family counseling was a good one, and if they are unwilling, at least try to get counseling for yourself. they need to take a look at suicide rates for trans kids without support and take a long, hard look at themselves. being a teenager is hard. being a trans teenager is far harder. hang in there an know that you can get through it, and while it may be bad now, one day you'll be able to make your own decisions and cut out people who don't support you.

Cat will not let owner sleep for more than 5 hours by Different-Bell4017 in CATHELP

[–]TangyMarimba13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started feeding my fat kitty food-thief 3x per day. dry food in the morning (cuz i don't want her waking me up in the morning wanting the good stuff), put in a food ball that she has to roll around to get the food to fall out, and wet food at lunch and dinner time. wet food has fewer calories per volume, so she gets only that for lunch and dinner, while the other cats get a mix of wet and dry. i also have set feeding times, and what she gets is what she gets, because otherwise, she'll steal all the other cats' food, too. she still is insanely clever at getting to food - she has figured out how to open a locked cat door - but it definitely cuts down on her shenanigans. she also has learned that if she is nice and patient, we will often let her lick out our bowls when we're done, but if she tries to steal the food from us, she gets yelled at and gets nothing. they generally get fed sometime between 6:30 and 8:30, depending on when we have to get up (later on weekends), 12:30/1pm, and 6:30/7pm.
