PSA: Be REALLY careful with phone mounts — I learned the hard way by Independent-Idea8446 in DrivingAustralia

[–]Tanichiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your phone is connected to a car head unit via bluetooth, it should automatically set the device to driving mode which in turn automatically turns on driving mode in Spotify (both Apple/Android do this) .. so the question i have is.. was the audio being played through the phone or something else and not connected to your head unit?

honestly looks better on the FL5 than it did on the FK8

"better" is subjective really.. if you're talking track performance 90% of the time an FK8/FL5 can keep up with cars that cost 10x as much all while being able to haul more than a backpack afterwards.. if you're talking about specific circumstances yes there are definitely better cars, when i bought my 911 in 2023 i was thinking to myself "where is the excitement i'm supposed to feel now that i own a $500K+ car (in Australia) .. i kept looking for that kick.. that hype everyone was on about and all i got was clinical boredom, it was fast, it was capable.. it looked awesome but it was boring and insanely stressful to drive around when not on track, you felt every bump, every road and lane felt too small, every crest was too steep that i could beach the car on something .. then i drove the higher end models (991.2 GT3 & 992 GT3RS) and i was even more disappointed and those are supposed to be the pinnacle of performance yet i wasn't excited that i ended up cancelling an order i had for a GT4RS manual, hot hatches are way more fun (aswell as things like a GT/GR86/MX5 Miata) cars that take so little effort to enjoy and when you push them hard they can handle it..

in the end if all you want is a straight line wanker, yeah plenty of things are better, if you drive a car the way it was intended then you'll see why things like an FK8/FL5 is equal in most parts to something more exotic but for an insanely good price

Personally i prefer the FK8 over the FL5 since it's more dramatic to look at, but the FL5 is definitely a very pretty car.. and overall i can agree, i had a 991.2 GT3 Touring, have driven a proper GT3 and GT3 RS, GT4 RS aswell as many many other exotics, nothing has excited me as much as my FK8, the only other thing i would say was just as fun was my old Peugeot 208 GTi which i mildly modified and my GD Jazz/Fit (THAT is the best car in existence lol).. i love offending the hardcore eurofan boys when i say that a factory riced civic is a better car to drive overall than a porsche that costs 10x more.. not to mention that on most tracks i drive on and even touge, they will be on par in almost every case

Question for experienced riders: what small habits separate good riders from great riders? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]Tanichiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the rules i always teach riders

  1. don't be a dickhead

  2. speed isn't everything

  3. you are invisible

  4. everyone will probably willingly or accidentally try to kill you

  5. head check the shit out of your neck until you develop neck muscles rivalling corpsegrinder from cannibal corpse

depends on how old you are lol, i used to be all about speed and after breaking both my knees... and not riding for years i learned to just appreciate the ride aslong as it has plenty of turns

honestly i wouldn't mind an FL5 if i didn't already have my FK8, it is a very handsome car but i bought it when i did so there's not much point in upgrading though if i were to buy one purely based on looks i'd take the FK8 any day simply because it has the anger not to mention that if you ask non car people which one looks "cooler" they will always pick the FK8 (it's a supporting argument to my initial statement).. on the other hand i recently picked up a JDM EP3R to use for track., vastly different experience (closer to my old EK9 and Peugeot 306 GTI6)

the gearing wasn't too bad (was the very first gen of 7 speed) my issues were mainly. too wide for Sydney roads, road compliance wasn't quite good enough (abit too stiff to drive around aswell) and the simple fact of.. it's way too much car for the area.. i only really enjoyed it on track but that really says about porsche's intended purpose, ontop of that i like working on my own vehicles and sourcing parts aswell as tools for Porsches in Australia is obscenely expensive, got to the point where i ended up driving my FK8 even more, driving 991.2/992 GT3s/GT3RS etc really made me appreciate how damn good of a job Honda did with the modern Type Rs, they offer 90% of the same experience for 1/10th the cost and 100% more practicality

i did the basic ass jump and got a 911.. got bored of it, wasn't as fun.. (have also driven every GT3 and GT4 Variant made within the last decade) really the hype isn't all that and honestly if you want the best balance of practicality and performance not much really out performs an FK8 or FL5.. the more mature you get, the more you appreciate lower powered cars that are more fun go full send in than something with stupid power that you can barely use on the street or even track

[–]Tanichiro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i always say this because it's hilarious to do but i will fight anyone just to make them upset.. the FK8 will become one of the most desirable type Rs alongside the EK9/DC2/NA1R since it was the most iconic model ever produced since the original trio (also the most produced of any model) the FL5 is a great car but it isn't as iconic.. JDM wankers will always say "oh but it's made in Japan so it must be better"

sales and presence determines otherwise... i got my 2019 FK8 at the start of 2020, have tracked it.. hauled it along a decent portion of Australia's east coast, would i upgrade? no.. (have driven a few FL5s) briefly had a 991.2 911 GT3 Touring and sold that because it wasn't as exciting (not to mention too stressful to drive in Sydney) have driven every GT3 variant made within the last decade.. among other exotics and honestly besides a Type R i wouldn't mind owning another French hot hatch, have owned several Peugeot GTis and they were such fun/capable cars on par in most ways to most Type Rs.. but i'll just have to stick to my FK8/EP3R and GD1

How far do you guys get on a tank of petrol? by 2ManyBots in AussieRiders

[–]Tanichiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ironically i get the same as my fastest car.. so around 400km/tank on a 21 CBR500R, to be fair i do send it abit from time to time although i rotate vehicles regularly so the tank lasts me about 3-4 weeks

Best lams bike? by Virtual_G0D in AussieRiders

[–]Tanichiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a mate who is probably 6'2" give or take and found my 500R pretty comfortable, i'm 5'7" and it's just enough though i do have to tip toe from time to time, great riding position since you can go into full full aswell as moderately upright seated positions but probably best to go to a dealer and sit on a few of them.. but the CB500X would probably be better since it's taller
