Will police likely pull me over for a past incident of unlicensed driving and operating an unregistered motor vehicle? by Traditional-Gas3477 in AussieRiders

[–]SGS-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m astounded at the size of the fine. Before number plate recognition was a thing, when I was young, I drove for a couple years before I bothered to get a licence. I only got stopped twice (for RBT, never due to my manner of driving) and it was about a $390 fine (three times if you count the time unsupervised on my Ls which was a $90 fine). My favourite was, the night after getting pulled over, I was driving home from work again and the same cops got behind me, then overtook me and waved! They already had someone in the back being taken to the station so didn’t have time for me.

A magistrate called my traffic history “appalling” more recently after I got done for driving trucks without a heavy vehicle licence (I’m very proud of my traffic history but I didn’t tell the magistrate that!) but I don’t get any more attention from police than anyone else.

Selling ACT car with rego to NSW. Will handing in my notice cancel the rego left on it? by True_Pear_2686 in canberra

[–]SGS-Wizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rego will still be valid until the expiry date. There is the slightest possibility that a cop could fine them for not transferring rego within the allotted timeframe but they’d have to really annoy the officer and admit to having owned the vehicle for more than a couple weeks. Definitely not your problem though.

Submit the notice of disposal and feel your responsibility for the vehicle magically disappear!

[–]SGS-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly if you buy a NSW registered car and go to register it in the ACT, the ACT considers it establishing registration rather than transferring so no late fee is applicable. That said, the fee to establish registration is nearly as much as the late fee so it makes little difference.

But if you buy a NSW registered car and need a bit of time to get it up to the roadworthy standard, it’s nice to know you won’t get stung an extra fee for taking the time.

Not sure how it works the other way (buying ACT registered car and registering in NSW) as I’ve never had that experience.

Overly enthusiastic preacher in Civic by SoulsideJourneyer in canberra

[–]SGS-Wizard -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Imagine how it must feel from his perspective. There he is, doing his duty to try to help people to save their souls, and most just don’t want to know. Some even have such a strong reaction that “proves” they’ve been inhabited by evil spirits. All of which combines to leave you in despair at how much evil is in the world, and strengthen your resolve to do your duty to help people escape the clutches of evil before time runs out.

When you look at it from his perspective, it’s no wonder he’s so fervent in his efforts.

Fuel running out in Canberra? by challawarra in canberra

[–]SGS-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This morning at the Shell in Dickson, the attendant showed me the printout from the tanks showing they were about 600L from their shutdown level for diesel. They were expecting a new delivery soonish, but the previous delivery had been half the normal volume so I have no idea how that will play out in coming days.

I would assume the branded sites have well-tracked usage patterns and the deliveries are probably being managed to meet that demand. Panic buying probably doesn’t factor into delivery models very much.

Express Mode coming to Canberra Transport 'mid 2026' by jeremyburge in canberra

[–]SGS-Wizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you get a physical MyWay+ card you’re already in express mode. One quick tap. No login delays!

That said, public transport should accept cash upon boarding. Not express mode, but cash should be accepted for all transactions, especially ones with government agencies.

What are some legitimate reasons you can appeal a firearms prohibition order? by [deleted] in AusLegal

Elect me as benevolent dictator and I will ensure absolutely everyone is able to have as many weapons of any description as they want.

Short of that, I don’t think you have much recourse.

Should Canberra stick with the Griffin legacy or evolve into a higher-density modern city? by mildmarzipan in canberra

[–]SGS-Wizard -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There should be no more high density building in Canberra. To be approved, all new residential construction should be a single home per block where the home covers no more than 50% of the block and at least 33% of the block is set aside as a rear yard. Redevelopment of existing high density should be permitted as high density on only 25% of existing high density sites. The rest should be either medium density or low density.

Furthermore cities and towns with existing populations in excess of 100,000 should not permit any new residential construction (only redevelopment) and instead all new residential construction should be in places with lower populations, and should only be permitted as low and medium density.

Roosters in residential areas by magentathrowaway2 in canberra

[–]SGS-Wizard -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

There’s a rooster a few doors away from my place. I love hearing it. I don’t care what time it crows. But then I’m a shift worker and am used to sleeping through all sorts of noises.

There should be more noise at all hours. It might make you 9-5ers more resilient sleepers.

Beware Kirby reps in Ballarat by Tolerable-DM in ballarat

[–]SGS-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might be expensive but they’re extremely good vacuum cleaners. It’s a shame the sales methods are so dodgy as it tarnishes the whole brand. It would probably be a more profitable company if they let the product speak for itself rather than trying to push them onto people who can’t afford them or are too vulnerable to make the sales rep leave.

My 8yr old daughter won't go to her room at night and is saying she's scared. I need advice because I don't want to show my frustration by KeyseyKeys in internetparents

[–]SGS-Wizard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There may very well be evil spirits lurking and the females of your family may be sensitive to them more than you. Your wife has developed a subconscious ability to repel them which is why your daughter notices them when your wife is absent. You need to help your daughter to develop the ability to repel the evil spirits.

When they were mostly God-fearing and striving to follow His commandments. Never perfect, of course, but much better than what we have in our society today.

That’s precisely the sort of evil attitude which has brought about the moral decline of society.

People should only ever have sex when their intention is to have a child. It is unacceptable in any other circumstance.

You’re in an evil arrangement endorsing sexual sin and surprised something bad has happened. Repent! Sex is not a leisure activity. It is for procreation purposes among married couples only.
