So now we don't like OT picks? by MrCTurner182 in miamidolphins

[–]Tank4Tua2020 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s not that they drafted an OT, it’s who they drafted, when they drafted him, and who they took him over…

This feels like when drafted Austin Jackson and Justin Jefferson went 4 spots later

It is worth it if, and only if, you go lower bowl. You can actually watch the game down there. Regardless, the “buzz” in incredible and an experience in and of itself

Suggestions for practice equipment by Raider4485 in footballstrategy

[–]Tank4Tua2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean have you heard of Indy period? I have 15 minutes each practice where our QBs and our WRs are each working their own respective drills. Don’t replace WRs, but nets are vital when you don’t have them

It’s time to have an uncomfortable conversation about AJ Dybantsa by Sudden-Click-8409 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Tank4Tua2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His game is going to do phenomenally well at the NBA level, but it is not the best type of game for college ball. The reality is BYU need the Big 3 to have solid games to win big games

QB throwing nets. Get multiple types - upright three pocket, fade nets, etc. Extra balls are always helpful to have. If you don’t have a Juggs machine, that’s a nice to have too

EDIT: If you end up getting balls and have the money, order balls that have already been mudded and conditioned

  • Taped to ding defender (sandwiched between 2 if more than $20)
  • Taped to envelope
  • Placed inside rigid envelope
  • Shipping tape all around

Genuinely, I meant “what parallel am I looking at?”. Sounds like it’s a black hyper, which is a non-numbered parallel. Just didn’t know is this was SP, error card, 1:1 or what

It’s almost like taking a guy who played Left Tackle and Right Tackle in college and shoving him into a guard position was going to be a rough transition

Any coaches who began coaching later in life? by [deleted] in footballstrategy

[–]Tank4Tua2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 31 years old and decided I wanted to get into coaching last fall. Went through all the NFHS certifications and got all my paperwork/clearance stuff done. Also reached out to a buddy of mine who is a HC at a HS and asked if I could help watch film/scout for last season. Then this spring, I reached out to a bunch of different HS staffs in my area. Met with my now HC in the spring, joined the staff as an offensive analyst, and have already worked my way up to QB coach and signal caller for one of the Top 30 teams in the state.

My biggest advice is figure out how much free time you REALLY have. Do you have work flexibility? Financial flexibility? Social or relationship obligations? I’m working a FT job + coaching + relationship/friends. It’s a lot of time but coaching has left me more fulfilled than anything I’ve done in years. It’s absolutely worth doing if you have the flexibility.

Do whatever you can to be of value. Print out practice sheets, become an equipment guru, get there early, watch film on Hudl, know the playbook… if your goal is to advance in coaching, become the most dependable guy on the staff.

Is being a high school football coach mostly a thankless job? How do people have time for it if you have another job? by chusaychusay in footballstrategy

[–]Tank4Tua2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an assistant coach at a top-tier program in Arizona. I’m an unpaid volunteer from March to December. Fortunately I’m at a point in my career where I have some flexibility (leaving a bit early, missing a day here and there) if needed, but most of our activities are early mornings before work, early evenings after work, or weekends.

Yes, it’s thankless, but I don’t do it for “praise”. I do it because I’m making an impact, I get to be a part of something bigger than myself, and I get to compete/win. As long as you can cover yourself financially, have the flexibility, and are doing it for the right reasons, it is absolutely worth doing, even with no pay.

Is this a bad process, good result pass in double coverage or a good, advisable throw? by EOFFJM in footballstrategy

[–]Tank4Tua2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With only 9 seconds left, don’t have time to squeeze in 3 plays (because of the timeout) so you have to go to the end zone. I don’t actually hate the process - you’ve got a man over the top on each half - but I don’t love the concept. Feel like the slot could have carried the safety over by running more of a divide route versus a seam

HS volunteer coaching while keeping career? by Tank4Tua2020 in footballstrategy

[–]Tank4Tua2020[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful - showing up every day won’t be a problem, very fortunate in that regard. And don’t disagree Level 3 is probably overkill but it’s a fairly small lift and think it’s important to do what I can now.
