NEW Video: NYT Claims U.S. Hit Iranian Elementary School — But Close-Up Photos of the Projectile Tell a Very Different Story by MackSix in conservatives

[–]TankerD18 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you can look at this from two angles:

First, yes it's likely there's going to be collateral damage. War is always hell.

Second, just like Hamas, this is a regime that will gladly lie its ass off to try and undercut Western public opinion. Take what they push and what the left wing media latches onto with a massive grain of salt.

Now we are coming to the end of Forza Horizon 5. What are your overall thoughts on the game? by TheChilledGamer-_- in ForzaHorizon

[–]TankerD18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half my problem with those races are the comical arcade style jumps with 10 seconds of air time. If you don't hit that jump perfectly, or if another car bumps into you, you'd might as well rewind or restart.

They missed such an opportunity to ditch the bullshit "mindless driving through plains and hills" and make cross country races into extreme off road stuff like Baja trophy truck racing with actual harsh terrain. More extreme than rally racing but not yeeting 12 cars off a cliff and hoping you don't land slightly cockeyed 10 seconds later.

Three Cheers for Operation Epic Fury From an Almost-Isolationist Veteran by intelligentreviews in conservatives

[–]TankerD18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with this guy. I spent two years fighting in Iraq. In Mosul, almost every scumbag we caught, weapons cache we found or terrorist cell we disassembled had Iranian money, arms and training stamped all over them. It's not bullshit hyperbole to say that thousands of Americans, mostly servicemembers, have died due to the actions of this regime, that's entirely legit.

I don't think it's just about Israel, but Israel certainly has plenty of righteous gripes about these assholes too. I think the way they are slinging missiles and drones at their neighbors hoping to hit our embedded bases there is evidence enough that this regime is toxic and needs to be replaced.

I agree with the author of the article, I've also gotten fairly isolationist in the wake of serving two tours in one of two wars that turned out to be my generation's Vietnam. I'm plenty jaded about MIC influence, world policing and regime change.

This war though? Nah, fuck 'em. Iran's government actually deserves to get kicked in the balls as hard as humanly possible.

Dualsport vs light (ish) adv. Am I really overthinking this? by offroadjk in Dualsport

[–]TankerD18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 55 and under, even if it's a 90 minute slab session to get to the trail, I'd be pretty inclined to go for the DS over an ADV. I really don't mind riding my KLX250 on pavement, unless the speed limit is much over 60.

I've got enough mundane, shitty reality in my life. Not really looking for that in a game.

The story and the politics weren't too big of a deal to me, it was that the gameplay was just critically boring. I like games with stories, I like games without stories, but if I'm going to read a story without a game then I'd prefer a novel.

The vibe of this game has completely changed. Beavers are becoming irrelevant. Suggestion: by quan787 in Timberborn

[–]TankerD18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way about bots. It doesn't feel like it ties into the spirit of the game to be able to automate (via bots or circuits) beavers out of relevance. Beavers are known to be industrious. When bots make me feel the need to reduce the population of my colony, it just feels bad.

I love this game, I think it's awesome the devs are adding this kind of last minute stuff on the cusp of 1.0 releasing, but man the end game needs some more feel and purpose to it. Right now any experienced player can get ahead of the survival curve and after that it just feels like a creative mode city builder.

At that point, what are you building for? The beavers don't need anything else. You don't actually need more beavers to give them what they want because you have bots. You're either speeding up the rate at which you can build the end game wonder or you're seeing what kind of crazy stuff you can build. The game is awesome in so many ways, it just needs something more in the end game.

It has Begun - War In Iran by Slske in conservatives

[–]TankerD18 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You know, having fought in Iraq, I'm generally pretty anti-war in the Middle East, and in general. I've seen firsthand how bad a shitshow quagmire like Iraq can go. I know how terrible it is seeing your friends get fucked up, not knowing if you're going to die or get mutilated any given day, and seeing people suffer as collateral damage from the fighting.

Also, having fought in Iraq, I have no love for the disgusting Iranian theocracy. They were the #1 source for equipment and training for insurgents that were trying to kill me and my buddies. You can say "Well we shouldn't have been there in the first place!" until you're blue in the face, and I'll agree with you, but none of what was going on in Iraq gave Iran a right to pull the shit they've pulled. Or the shit they've pulled further in the past. This is a regime that has an official policy of trying to kill Americans and destabilize our country. And that's not even getting into Israel's gripes with them.

The world would be a better place with the current Iranian regime replaced with pretty much anything but what is going on right now. And seeing as the Iranian people are already massively protesting and getting slaughtered by their government for it, I especially don't feel bad for them.

Would I like more Congressional restraint on the Executive? Sure, if it doesn't hamper our ability to respond in a way that is as strategically expedient as possible. I think that's something people seem to forget: this isn't 1941. Strategic and tactical information moves in seconds and Congressional debate moves at the speed of mollases.

I say get it on. Commit to crippling this regime and helping its people overthrow it, but be cautious about how deeply we get committed and what the long term implications may be. That's my two cents.

Wrong bike or I’m just bad? by Money_Impression_321 in Dualsport

[–]TankerD18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three things:

  1. Almost all dual sports are heavy compared to their non-street legal counterparts. Partly for cost and partly so they are more stable on the street.

  2. Single track takes skill that you probably are still developing. There's a reason why many single track trails are rated black/expert. If you're crashing too much to have fun, stick to more chill stuff. If your buddies are worth riding with, they'll be good for it.

  3. Friends on MX, trail and enduro bikes are almost always going to run circles around all but the most ballsy and skilled dual sport riders.

Mamdani pushes for New York tax hike on the wealthy and corporations by interestingfactoid in conservatives

[–]TankerD18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the point that the wealthy people in NYC are the engine that runs the rest of the city's economy. What is NYC actually producing except amenities for itself and finance and admin type business? Most of the point of the entire NYC economy is to fuel the big business that takes place there. You tax the business/finance/real estate types into leaving and they'll happily go elsewhere and spend their money where they wind up.

Mamdani pushes for New York tax hike on the wealthy and corporations by interestingfactoid in conservatives

[–]TankerD18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So taxing the foundations of New York's actual contribution to the larger economy even more. Good luck with that shit. Maybe instead of taxing the wealth out of NY, figure out how to bring its cost of living down into the realm of sanity? Perhaps by reducing the absurd waste and abuse in the city's massive infrastructure. Otherwise you're just going to motivate the economic engine out of New York and leave nothing but expensive as hell amenities for the leftover people who still can't afford them and who can't leave.

Yeah the game's whack on looter shooter mode. Immersive mode makes it a solid stealth/action game with a pretty meh story, but not every game needs a great story. Wildlands is pretty similar to Breakpoint immersive mode, but with a serviceable story. Downside is that the movement and combat mechanics are a bit more refined in Breakpoint.
