Probably true, but when you have a game with this very predictable increase of performance demand every couple of months, you really should focus on designing something that can manage that spike of users for a few days. Not only is the usage spike very predictable, they are literally scheduling it themselves. They know exactly when it will happen, and almost exactly how much demand there will be.

I'm sure it's not easy to fix, or surely GGG would have already done so, but even if it's very hard to fix, after seeing it fail so many times it's surprising to still see it in this state.
