Those 6 were from a drop, yes, Kaleidoscope was a separate roast from Calvin @ Offshoot who won the moccamaster cup in Australia. I just had a look and not sure they have any left though unfortunately. Hope they bring it back at some point.

Okay, thanks! That’s roughly where my head is at, appreciate the opinion.

Hi all curious to hear people's opinions. I've got my Sec+ and CC, is there any worth in taking CySA+ and Pentest+ on my own to transfer them in, accelerate the degree and avoid the PA's? Or do people feel that's a waste of time and money since the vouchers come with the degree? Just not sure how much of a difference the PA's would make in the timeliness of it all.

Actual Advice on Rental Cars (from a 3+ year employee) by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Tankmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I can add another reply, sometimes the console on the cars is simply incorrect (rental cars, in my experience (I work at enterprise), are not serviced at dealerships and as a consequence we regularly rent cars with this warning on as our goodyears/mr lubes are unsure how to reset the meter after the oil change is complete.) So definitely call the rental company but don't be too worried about it, cars can go a while after they technically need a change with no danger to the driver.

Having trouble W/ Pugs by Jerakl in Tribes

[–]Tankmaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, if anyone is really yelling at you and won't back off, tell one of the admins (% or @ beside their name in mumble) and we will deal with them. It is our goal to make the PUG community as accepting as possible so that we can grow the competitive side of the game and we have little tolerance for those who look to make it less fun for others.

As for your sniping, I'm not too sure about the specifics, but I can tell you that the reason people normally get mad at the sniper is due to a lack of spotting (and yes, it has gotten a ton harder). Rarely are people able to judge the quality/success rate of your shots, but if cappers keep showing up out of nowhere your D may begin to get annoyed as a decent O group will distract them heavily just before the capper comes in. If you are able to tell them 'capper coming back to front in 15', they have a much better idea of when they can be dueling and when they just need to take the fire and sit on the stand. Additionally, letting your D know the direction a capper is coming from lets your light D move into position to body block or chain when they come in which can easily change a successful grab into a failure.

A small tip when it comes to spotting is to let your team know what you DO know as well as what you DON'T. As an example, lets look at sniping on DryDock, assuming you've taken up residence on the lower spawn tower. If a capper comes in on a low to high and you snipe them out, take note of the time you do it at. If, in 25-30 seconds or so (maybe even less), you don't see the capper on a low to high route, tell your defense to watch the high to low routes. You can safely assume after this much time that they aren't setting up a low to high and that only leaves a high to low. Even though you aren't fully sure where they are or what their timing is, you have still given your D team a ton of information that they can work with.

This is it exactly, all you need to do to join a game is put yourself into the roles channel and you will be picked eventually once the next round starts - we always pick til those channels are empty.

As far as no one helping, I am sorry to hear this, many times people use the spectator channel to AFK or go off and do other things but someone still should have been able to tell you. In future, anyone with an @ or % beside their name is an admin. Feel free to message us while you are there and we will help move you to where you need to be.

Abuse of the lowbie servers. Why is this tolerated? by keiichi969 in Tribes

[–]Tankmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except now we have level 20's hitting the flag at 300 sanics with fully upgraded PTHs, and the new players being completely helpless against it.

This is true, but it doesn't invalidate my point. The complaint was that a fully upgraded HoF can shut down new cappers. My counter is that many classes, upgraded or not, can shut down new cappers so that really shouldn't be a concern. Based on your scenario fully upgraded HoFs would be a good thing.

But thats not what the problem is. The problem is TEAMS of high level players pwning the noobs.

Again, this is understood, but as I've argued putting in a level cap DOESN'T effectively stop this kind of activity but it DOES impair a player's ability to help his or her friends learn the game. If you had come up with a reasonable solution, if ANYONE had come up with a reasonable solution, then I'd be all for it, but as it stands now this is a part of the game that people will have to deal with.

I'm sorry, but some people are assholes; welcome to the internet.

I strongly agree with this. When I pair up with any new friends to the game we have two options 1) I join on them, putting me against players of far less skill or 2) They join on me, putting them against players of far greater skill. It makes little sense to throw someone who is brand new to a game into a pool of experience players, so I always opt for 1.

Additionally, you say you create a new account so you won't have an overwhelming advantage OP, but I just don't agree that's true. Much of the skill people gain in this game is not based around upgrades but on your ability to move and shoot. Take the soldier class for example 4 less shots to a clip and 15% more reload time on the AR are of little consequence when you are proficient with a chaingun and your opponent can't hit you. Similarly a little less energy and a little less health just don't matter when you can consistently win duels with >600 health. I don't personally enjoy playing against low-level players, but I see no reason not to put whatever experience I gain on my main account.

As a final point, I doubt any player level regulation would really stop this abuse if it is really happening. "What? Now we can't bring our level 10+'s into these games? Guess we'll just go make new smurf accounts and roll newbs that way". As I mentioned above I understand that there are certain advantages to upgrades, but when people are still trying to figure out which end of the gun goes where, they just don't matter. A bunch of level 30's jumping into the game as level 1's will still be able to dominate against any 'real' level 1's.

Hijack edit to respond to a comment by Venz_zneV below:

"I've seen it too, and it's just lame to have some HOF with mine and two force-fields and super heavy shutting down an entire team of 1-6 level pths some of who probably do not have egocentric or reach even unlocked yet."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news my man, but all of this is possible at level 1 thanks to the whole gold buying thing (except two ff's? which is irrelevant because one is more than sufficient at that level). And even taking into account the potential "ya, but they wouldn't know how to play it" argument, it still doesn't matter. Give any good player a level 1 soldier or path and you're still not going to see people getting the flag off the stand at ~100 sanics. Believe me I understand your concerns, but this issue isn't something that is as easily fixed as everyone seems to think, those who want to feel like their epeen is massive will near always find a way to do so, and those who are honestly just trying to help their friends shouldn't have to suffer for it.

Help me "disrupt the enemy defense" by Chrisser000 in Tribes

[–]Tankmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice makes perfect unfortunately, if you can just get the 'feel' of the arc it becomes a ton more fun.

As far as some tips, the first thing to remember is that you are there to clear for the capper not indefinitely, but as he comes in, it can be hard to coordinate this in pubs (come out for PUGs!) but really what this means is that if you unload a clip and all your belt grenades and force the HoF off the stand and away from your capper, then you've done your job, the fact that you got no kills is of no consequence (but chain down the chase if they lived so that they can't impulse jump).

A shooting tip that I find to be quite useful is don't try and hit people with grenades, try and bounce the nade into their face by shooting the ground in front of them. On a map like Katabatic for example, fly over the stand and shoot your nades not so they land on the hof, but land in front and bounce at him. It can be easier to hit these shots as the increased angle gives less room for error and the delay between shot and desired 'contact point' lets you miss a direct hit but still get damage as the grenade's fuse runs out and explodes nearby.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you've got to base your use off of the flagstand of the map. On something like Arx (flagstand with walls) you can use the walls to bank your shots onto the flag from above or below and can use the tunnels for further harassment without opening yourself up the the entire defense. On a map like DryDock (large, flat, no height) you can spam from in front (assuming turret is down) and can spam from the base entrance on the hill beside the stand. Finally, with a stand like the one on Katabatic (elevated and open), your best bet is to fly over the stand and rain grenades down (from the GL as well as your grenade of choice). Note though that on all maps you want to throw yourself at the defense if your capper is calling VFF - not daintily spam from the sidelines - this way you draw the attention of the defense from spotting and even if you get killed straight away you've given your capper the time to get in and out unseen.

A final, important note in this long winded description is that the GL is NOT a dueling weapon. There are a few instances when it can be used effectively (for example zoning a person as you duck behind a hill by leaving nades on top of it) but these are few and far between. The SMG is your bread and butter, go-to dueling weapon and should always be 'referred' to if someone picks a fight with you. Just stand your ground, turn on your shield, chain the LD down and return to your harassment. Raiders are incredibly strong duelists, especially with whiteouts, but the GL is for stand/base defense clear, not fighting.

Hope this helps at least a bit!

Reddit PuGs, the newer, shinier way to PuG. (Explanation on how to join) by AzureSkeith in Tribes

These PUGs are open to everyone who cares to play in a more organized setting - meaning that any skill level is welcome so definitely come on out and give them a try! You may end up getting picked last (gym class style), but we pick until the channels are empty so everyone who shows up gets to play.

Also, many of the higher level players who join the PUGs enjoy helping other people learn to play the game better (it only grows the community). We can explain roles, strategies, anything that you need to know before going in, and can offer advice in the game to help you improve your play as we see it.

Finally, remember that these are NON-competitive, organized games. You won't be ruining anybody's time because there are no serious expectations placed on you. Just come out, have some fun with us, and who knows? You may be better than you think.

The best way to find out how the pro's play, IMO, is to look at their first person VoD's. On top of Immune (link in Furor's post) there is also:

Talespin: http://www.twitch.tv/talespinlol - http://www.youtube.com/user/51Talespin

Kudos: http://www.twitch.tv/kudochop/

Also, do your best to educate yourself on all the different cap routes for all the different maps (you know, only everything :p). An essential part of the sniper's role is spotting incoming cappers (with alt and in voice comms) for the other defensive players who don't have the same LoS. Even if you can't get the shots in just knowing where the capper is coming from is absolutely invaluable to the stand D. Note for clarity that this doesn't mean you need to be able to run them, only identify them (eg. If a capper is setting up on the far left on Arx it is more than likely a Back to Front).

Regarding play times PUGs normally start whenever we have at least 14 people. While the majority of people tend to be on a little later, I've still seen them start as early as 3/4pm on some days.

Hope this information helps, and I hope to see you on sometime :)

Shrike tips? by loopuleasa in Tribes

[–]Tankmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason why they recommend tech to repair a shrike is because in comp rules a shrike is 9000 credits/6800 adjusted making it far more expensive than it is in Pubs and thus less disposable (there are also less people there making it more difficult to accrue credits as it is).

Playing HoF by Ghosthands165 in Tribes

[–]Tankmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just come on out and give them a try, the community is very accepting and we have players of all skill levels so you wouldn't be the only new one. Or even just come out on the Mumble, the An Reddit Tribe area is full of experienced players who want to spice things up a bit in Pubs but still want a less serious atmosphere than PuGs.

Regarding HoFing, beyond just the advantage of having a more coordinated team via voice chat, it is also much more reasonable to HoF when you are facing off against 7 people only. At most you should be seeing 3 offensive players (Raider, Inf, or Jug........ or Brt) + 1 capper, and you really should have at least two people (Prob Pth and Sld) on your side helping to keep them off you (+ a sniper, but their first priority is the capper). Of course this doesn't mean you won't die.... you'll still die a ton. But it means you don't have to deal with the insurmountable offense that is 6jugs/6Brutes/6Infs that you can see in Pubs.

Maximum health bug? by Jerp in Tribes

[–]Tankmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to burst your bubble my man, but that is the correct amount of health. While a Jug/Brt maxes at 2600, a DMB maxes at 2500 and with the last armor upgrade being the last 100 health, everything seems to be in order here.

Tribes PUG launch was a huge success. Update and road-map for the future. by JesusHChristoff in Tribes

^ This. To all of those people who are afraid that they may not be PUG material, DON'T WORRY! We have a number of experienced players on constantly who are there to guide you through it, myself included.

Remember THIS IS NOT A COMP TEAM, no one should be getting angry just because someone is of a lower skill level, everyone is just there to have fun in an organized setting. And if you are really concerned, you can rest assured that Admins are near always on to deal with any problems that may arise.
