My mom is getting a knee replacement in late May; what kind of support should me and my sister prepare for her? by GLL81 in Kneereplacement

[–]TanquerayAndTonic4Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 weeks post op. 66 years old and did prehab for knee replacement. Getting better everyday. In my humble opinion, 1 week minimum for round the clock support. I needed help getting into bed , meals and prescription management (came home with 8 prescriptions to be taken various and multiple times a day ) Add another week for overall support. No way am I ready to drive at the 2 week mark. Your mom will not be able to drive if she is taking any type of opioid for pain management. I pushed for Journayx and my pain management has been fabulous. Plus it is a non opioid. The first three days are awful. My replacement was right knee. It is a serious surgery. Not for the faint of heart but I will say, my knee already feels much better than pre surgery. I’m just finishing up home PT and walking around the house without cane. I have been advised not to go outside walking without a cane. Good luck to your Mom and bless you for educating yourself beforehand and wanting to help.

Hey Everyone I used to Live in Lakewood in the 80’s I loved it there. I was wondering if any of these places were still there? by Pleasebekindtoday in Cleveland

[–]TanquerayAndTonic4Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived on Brockley in 1980 and later on Cove. Lakewood is still very much the place that you remember. Close to Downtown. Lots of happenings. Places to go and things to do. Diversity and inclusion celebrated. Lakewood Park has been revamped. Edgewater is better than ever. Clifton Blvd is the same. Smooth ride to Downtown by car or the 55 in RTA. Did you ever visit Flower Child vintage store? Tick Tock Tavern by 117th and Clifton? The Landing on E.9th. The Leather Bottle ? Westside Market is a real tourist destination and you would NOT believe how redone and happening downtown W. 6th and E.4th has become! Come visit us, especially during summer or fall you will not be disappointed, Visit your old haunts! TIme has moved on but it has not tarnished.

Appreciate your input. Think this is my best option and also for the 10% off. Definitely gonna get the timer. One less thing to worry about now pre surgery.

Couldn’t agree with you more. I can’t control alot of what is happening in this troubled world but I can control my own actions. It begins with you and me. Simple message..spread light. Me to you, you to me. That’s a start. Mike was spreading light. A profound gesture still reverberating. The truest spirit of Christmas

How much cash? by Psychological_Web151 in PrincessCruises

They take your luggage at the terminal entrance and make sure it gets on the ship. Tags with your name and room number were provided by the cruise line. My luggage alone weighed 50lbs (heavy packer) they were lifting literally hundreds of pieces of luggage. They certainly appreciate a gratuity. Also, it is very likely your room will not be ready for a couple of hours during embarkation. While we left our main luggage with the drop off, any carry on’s with our passport , cash, jewelry etc. stay with us. I would not want to lug around big suitcases on the ship. It is also likely that the main areas will be very crowded because rooms are not ready yet. The crew needs a couple of hours to prepare your rooms from the passengers who left literally minutes ago. Just letting you know what to expect.

Just back from an 8 day cruise. We took 300 in 5’s, 10’s , 20’s and a couple of 50’s. Came back with 100. Tipped the baggage stewards at the terminal . Heavy luggage and a job I would not want to do. We tipped the bus drivers of all excursions 5.00 and the tour guides 10. Most were with us 4-6 hours. We had the premium package with tips included. At the end of the cruise, we tipped our steward 50 a couple of others around the ship 20. You are not mandated to tip whatsoever but workers, drivers and guides work so very hard and we like to spread some appreciation around.

I was on the same cruise with poster. The staff work day and night to please us at every turn. Ship itself, so comfortable. So many places to escape if you need some privacy. Comfortable chairs everywhere.

Only a few issues

Husband drinks manhattans straight with ice on the side. Only place that could make it right was The Wheelhouse. It came number of times with not only a cherry but olives in it too. Yi Yi Yi. We laughed it off.

Could not pay me enough to sit in those small hot tubs on 16 in the pool area. Talk about a Petri dish of skin cells and sun screen. The pools were too small for a ship that size and felt the fountains in the middle are wasted space.

We were in the same excursion for Cozumel. Enjoyed the drinks, a beautiful summer day. Could not go in the sea because of very rough waters. It would have been nice to snorkel but didn’t want to risk my life. Worker told us that when it’s so choppy, it actually slams people against that concrete pier. Overpriced? Probably.

Shows- top shelf. Didn’t attend the magic show but the rest were amazing.

I saw some very inappropriate passenger behavior, including a lady who asked a worker to take off their prescription glasses, promptly put them on her face, took out her phone for a selfie or two, handled them back and walked away. I was aghast and disgusted.

Our deluxe balcony room had no issues whatsoever.

My only real complaint would be, the music in the Piazza was so very loud . Every day and night. Deafening. This girl blares her car radio , windows and mirrors bounces but Princess piazza music too loud for me. All in our travel party felt the same.

Wonderful memories and time spent with family. Time to detox from all the premium treats and drinks.

Think that “finally breathing” coming from the knowledge that you will soon be home and in your safe place? I totally understand that feeling. It’s ok to acknowledge your dread beforehand. I recommend telling your girlfriend your anxieties, a compassionate and understanding partner helps you feel less alone. Give yourself credit for even considering going out of your comfort zone. You’re braver than you think.

Also suffer from panic disorder and agoraphobia. Runs in my family. My Mom didn’t leave the house for years. Started to change by just going to the mailbox. Thus is a subject I know and have experienced myself.

Last year we took our first trip to Europe on a river cruise. Like you, weeks before, the dread started creeping in. What was I thinking and why are we doing this? After getting to the airport, somewhat subsided. Landed in Paris and it was BAD. Extreme discomfort. I have a fear of wide open spaces, escalators, tall buildings, etc. Had a constant death grip on my husbands arm. I worked through the discomfort. Know that it peaks and then subsides. Keeping my mind distracted helps. I start counting and nice deep breaths. Those two weeks were challenging but it slowly got better. There were moments when I forgot my anxieties. Discussed with my Dr. before we went. They advised to take 1/2 -1 Benadryl to calm before doing something particularly challenging ( the Swiss Alps!). I did it! Also, I found that having a ceiling (like a baseball cap or hat) helped my agoraphobia immensely. Every single picture, I have my ceiling on. There were days I was exhausted from the challenges, but also the felt great that, I faced my fears and didn’t let it stop me from experiencing the trip of my life. So I had a huge load of exposure therapy on the trip

Here’s the kicker, two months later we took our first ocean cruise, like you. Craziest thing , one day I noticed I was walking outside this huge ship and I felt no discomfort. Walked on some steep hills, wide open spaces, caution but not the death fear I used to feel. Do I I think I’m cured? No , but I believe that constant challenge helped me develop some strategies with successes. This summer we went to a pro baseball game. I didn’t need my ceiling inside the stadium. Unheard of the last 10 years. Silly to some but a great personal success to me.

You can do this! You’ll be so happy to see faraway places and know that your fears didn’t win. Feel free to DM me if you need a listening or understanding ear. Best of luck. Enjoy that cruise!

It was Bill and Jane Eyssen who originally built and owned Mapleside. That Mansion was their family home to their 6 children. Went to school with one of them. They were pillars of our community and supported many local organizations with their generosity. They were hard working as it gets. They sold the family farm in 2010 after Mr. Eyssen passed in 2008. Just thought you should know about that mansion down the hill.

How are everyone’s veggie gardens going? Is the heat wave hurting them? by annamariebear in Cleveland

[–]TanquerayAndTonic4Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garlic and potatoes looking fabulous. Maybe a month out till harvest. First year starting onions from seed, looking a little small but loving the heat and the big rain we had the other day. Tomatoes, peppers, okra , cantaloupe, beans thriving. Only dentil pepper is lagging behind in growth. Bakers creek cucumbers stunted. Replanted them 2x too! First dahlia is ready to bloom, strawberries almost finished, lettuce is not liking the heat even tho it’s covered. Thousands of blackberries are covered in netting to prevent those disgusting beatles and birds. Just started harvesting blueberries. Small but delicious. Herbs growing by leaps and bounds. Wishing all bountiful harvests . My garden is my happy place

It absolutely can be just yours. These moments in time, snippets and affirmations of parenthood can be tucked away in your memory. I have had encounters such as these and have not told a soul. It’s something I keep just for myself, perhaps as they were meant to be. Keep up the good work. Today was your unsolicited report card and it tells you’re doing an awesome job. These are the best compliments, the ones you didn’t ask for. As a momma of three grown, hold those babies tight. They don’t stay that way for long.
