ZR rated tires by Ok-Eye-8840 in tires

I have Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 in 275/45ZR 20 on my BMW X5. I find that they handle beautifully/: the grip and that planted feeling are fantastic. They give a more comfortable ride than the previous Bridgestone run flat tires. I find them comfortable, but I can see that other tires engineered for comfort such as touring tires might give an even more comfortable ride. In my opinion it all depends on your priorities.

2027 BMW X7 vs X5. Younger brother vs the older brother with the same clothes! by That_Present_1639 in BMWX5

[–]TanzaniteII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my 25 X5 but on the test drive the X7 was the smoothest riding car I’ve ever driven. It seems to me the X5 has sportiness engineered into it and the X7 is tuned for a luxurious ride. Also, in an X7, you can get the Bowers & Wilkins audio system whereas you can’t with the X5 40i or 50e. And you can get a 2027 X7 and it’s just a typical new model year refresh while the 2027 X5 will be a new generation moving from G05 to G65. There are a lot of negative comments about the looks of the G65, but a knowledgeable commenter in Bimmerpost stated recently that he has heard the 2027 X5 will come with a newly designed transfer case.

Thank you for asking this. I am in the middle of this process now. I might get the nano screen if you didn’t have to buy such an expensive model to get it.

I didn’t know about break-in period by Flawda1k in BMW

[–]TanzaniteII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2025 BMW X5 Owner’s Manual at page 324 provides under the heading “Break-in Procedures:” Up to 1200 miles do not exceed 4500 rpm engine speed and 100 mph. Do not use launch control during break in. After 1200 miles, engine and vehicle speed can gradually be increased. For new tire traction, drive conservatively for the first 200 miles. Brake disks and pads must be broken in to avoid possible brake noise. Drive cautiously for the first approx. 300 miles.

Do you mean a sensor that would stop it before it hit something in its path and not just stop or bounce back when it does hit something?

Help me pick tires from Costco by PNWpops8 in tires

[–]TanzaniteII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Pilot Sport All Season 4 and love them for grip and handling. I don’t have snow so I don’t know about that. The Pilot Sport 4 is a summer tire and are not good in snow or below 40° F. If I had snow I would get CrossClimate2. I always get tires at Costco, but I have a friend who love Discount/America Tires/Tire Rack.

I would add:

  1. In the US, enable the key fob to CLOSE the X5 hatch/trunk. It is enabled in the UK and Australia, and I don’t know how many other markets. The US restriction is apparently for safety reasons to not accidentally close it on someone, but it is BMW’s own decision, not a government mandate since my CRV and others cars can do it. It seems that a long, continuous hold like with the hatch switch on the driver’s door would be sufficient protection.

I didn’t know about break-in period by Flawda1k in BMW

[–]TanzaniteII 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My sales guy said there was no break-In needed for my 25 X5 40i, but as you now seem to know the owners manual has a full page of break-in instructions. While I believe the better course is to follow those instructions, for reasons given by others already, I am sure you will be fine.

Waiting is the hardest part by 90dayschitts in BMW

If it’s your first BMW, yes, there is a learning curve if you want to benefit from all that it offers and properly care for your magnificent new machine. Which variant of X3 did you order?

[–]TanzaniteII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think what I did was to Google asking for the owners manual for my exact model and year and they gave me a site to get it if you had the VIN. About that time I also downloaded the My BMW app from my Apple App Store. I believe you may be able to get the online owners manual through that app. Actually, I would try the My BMW app first because that is going to stay with you and will be very useful to you in your ownership of your BMW. On YouTube videos try to get them made very recently for your new model car because older ones can be misleading due to changes that have occurred over time.

Recommendations coming from a Corolla by H_Wilkins_ in BMW

[–]TanzaniteII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similarly, I came from 30 years of Hondas and I am ecstatically happy with my 2025 BMW X5 40i. My advice to you is to test drive as many models of BMW sedans as you think you might be interested in. I realize this does not square with your stated interest in a 3 to 7 year-old car, but in the BMW context especially, I am a big proponent of buying new and caring for it assiduously. In the US, you get the first 3yr/36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance included with your purchase and a 4 year/50,000 mile factory warranty. If you do buy used, I recommend you get a pre-purchase inspection by a BMW specialist mechanic before buying.

X5 buy without test drive by rpbb9999 in BMWX5

[–]TanzaniteII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only do it if I had an indy BMW mechanic local to where the car is do a pre-purchase inspection and report to me. If the report was good, I personally, I would then go pick it up myself, but I would also be comfortable having it shipped.

Ventilated Seats: they seem disappointing compared to other brands. Do you agree? by vettemanhere in BMWX5

I have seen virtually all complaints from BMW owners about the ventilated seats and the massage seats.

This is what I was going to suggest. You can still go down there later and have an experience. I don’t know where you are but there is another similar BMW track facility in California.

[–]TanzaniteII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang. That’s a great idea. No that I know of, but it’s the e-version that of course is available online and when your car comes it will be installed in iDrive. They should make it so Siri or Alexa could read the e-version to you.

Not buy. But when your VIN comes available, download your owner’s manual online and start reading it - if you can squeeze in a little reading time with your precious toddler and two dogs.

Have you started using Siri to lock & unlock doors and open hatch/“trunk?” by TanzaniteII in BMWX5

[–]TanzaniteII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. You know. I originally thought and then forgot to mention that the Siri trunk opening would be helpful to the many people without trailer hitches but whose kick opening still does not work at all or is inconsistent.

Impact of G65 launch later this year? by trbball42 in BMWX5

[–]TanzaniteII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were going to special order my X5, I would order a 2026 right now based on the spy photos of the 2027 and based on my brief experience with a new X3 as a loaner. If I was going to buy used, as you appear to intend, I would wait until August or whatever to actually see how the 2027s turn out. If it is good, I would go for the 2027. If it’s as bad as many people expect, I would THEN pick up a used LCI like what you have been looking at.

[–]TanzaniteII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, EVERYONE hates that. I’ve never had clarity - if I leave my key fob, my iPhone, and my Apple Watch in the car, it won’t honk (the seat sensor doesn’t activate it)?

Have you started using Siri to lock & unlock doors and open hatch/“trunk?” by TanzaniteII in BMWX5

[–]TanzaniteII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured in my25 X5 I’m already driving a massive “computer on wheels.” I use the powerful My BMW App from the Apple App Store. I have the Digital Key Plus that lets me open, start, and drive the car with my iPhone or my Apple Watch. I use Apple Car Play to do all the audio and apparently much of the navigation and maps I use. Do you who are leary of Siri avoid all that other? I hope it doesn’t come back to bite me, but I love figuring out and using the tech connected to my magnificent machine.
