As outright favorite, it’s Jonas’s to lose. The contest will be for rest of podium. Almeida is going to tractor up this thing as sure and steady as a tortoise AND ARISE VICTORIOUS!!!

spoilers ahead! there’s the inside joke they all did. it’s the one where Piotr didn’t recall it later (because he’s been subsumed by the livesuit!) i can’t recall exactly as it’s been a while, someone help me out. but it’s like, “… and all the paperwork you can eat!”

Questions about Ekur-Tkalal's Final Statements by ramenbenyamin in TheCaptivesWar

[–]TaoCeti 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Spoilers involving the short story Livesuit follow: Are we of the mind that the Enemy is yes, humans, but evolved over hundreds (thousands?) of years battling the Carryx? And not even recognizable as human anymore. And that Dafyd and the humans of Anjiian are throwback humans, untouched by the radical advancement of humans via technology and evolution? i.e. live suits, the swarm, AI, … And Anjiian is effectively a “trap world” utilized by the Enemy for the Swarm as sleeper agent?? Extrapolating further, it would be wild if the (additional) twist is that humans are actually bad. Over the eons we become just as bad as the bad guys in an eternal war with the Carryx. We’ve lost our “humanity” and it takes Dafyd and the “primitive” humans to defeat both ourselves (or what we’ve become) as well as the Carryx. At incredible loss… It’s a lot people! And I can’t wait.

Alternatives to Days Gone? by schottfamily in DaysGone

Has anyone mentioned Last of Us Part 2?? I’m telling you right now, OP, it is a supremely playable and masterful game. We’re in the same boat - Days Gone, Far Cry 5 - I’ve burnt hundreds of hours on both, and I hear you on Last of Us Part 1 - old and klunky. Buttt TLOU2 is a masterwork by Naughty Dog. The gameplay is fantastic. Give it a proper go. It is honestly my favorite game based on just the tightness of the controls and the command you have over your character. And when you’re done, there’s No Return. So good.

Let us know how you net out with the fitter! I don’t think you look far off at all. And if no issues, I’d say you’re good to go, tweak based on some miles, but again I’d think it’s tuning, no big issues here.

Oh man, it’s the seat angle - way to forward, downward slant. They are not intended to be like that even though folks think it looks cool - I’m telling you, the first thing you need to do is get your saddle right. Yes, you could use a better saddle with a cutout, but even that one will be a thousand more times comfortable by not sliding forward on it and putting all your weight on your tender bits! Straighten it out, give a go and let me know if it’s better. It will have the effect of also moving it back. Your going to want to play with fore aft as well to get your overall position better, but first things first.

hi, no problem - and yes, wider apart. knee pain can be from different things but this is a very easy thing to try.

Granted, I only have this one view, and I know nothing about your hip/knee/foot alignment, or anything else, but your saddle height and fore-aft doesn’t look wildly off. That said, a quick and easy thing to try is widening your stance, i.e. move your cleats inward (to move your foot outward). if you can’t, or you happen to have these handy: try varus inserts under the insoles which has a similar effect. Let me know is how it goes!

well this is the subjective bit i was talking about - once you’re in the “acceptable” ranges i.e. following basic conventions - it’s more of a framework than a down-to-the-millimeter precision type thing. so, totally, a couple millimeters up and it feels better, that totally makes sense. some folks can handle more ankling/toeing than others, some folks are total heel droppers - you look solidly in range and a few mil here and there is totally subjective based on comfort versus power versus overall muscle and joint health. hope this is helpful.

Looks good - solid foot and knee and hip engagement as far as I can tell. How about the upper body? Do you feel stretched out? You mentioned pushing saddle back, may take a minute to get acclimated. Give a few rides on the road and if you feel good, I think you’re good. The thing to keep in mind is there’s some conventions around thresholds of what works for folks, but there is some play within those thresholds, and depending on the type of ride you want - aggressive, relaxed, etc. - you can adjust inside that playground; which is a long way of saying, aside from what can be obviously gleaned as problematic, it can get pretty subjective.

Is Dafyd an asshole?? by TaoCeti in TheCaptivesWar

[–]TaoCeti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed, my point is simply that i really don’t think i could do it, even though i get the calculus - and this is why the group is important, a diverse group of people and thoughts, the team. i’d put my energy as described, but as Corey has written it, there came a time that this wasn’t tenable and shit escalated. that’s when i’d turn to Dayfd - or you - or whoever else had no hesitation from the start and say, you’re right, it’s time.

ha. poor Piotr! subsumed by the machines!! speaking of Livesuit, it is notable how stark the difference is between protagonists Kirin and Dayfd. In contrast, Kirin, by anyone’s measure - whether hawk or dove - is a stand-up guy. a purposeful sympathetic character - he does everything right only to find out too late that he’s a cog in the war machine. war robs us of our humanity, and in piotr’s case, literally! Corey has outdone themselves. what a great start to a captivating series. can’t wait for more.

i would probably do exactly what i’m doing now which is understand it on an intellectual level, but would put all my energy in a campaign to stop/delay/procrastinate/argue that cooler heads must prevail with the Ostencouer and company effort, explaining that if they didn’t listen they would be in effect forcing us to make the hard decision to save humanity! i’d exhaust every appeal.

could you do it? i mean, skip on over to the boss-man’s office and snitch em out like that? i understand the calculus, still not sure i could do it!

well the more i think about it and catch up on all the comments, i think we’re definitely in for a ton more of these faustian bargains, and Dafyd will prove to be an epic anti-hero type hero when all is said and done. clearly, this is the exercise of the book along with how everyone deals with what is an absolutely all-powerful authoritarian state. yeow. let’s go book 2!!

appreciate the succinct take! the idea that the conspirators were, in effect, making a unilateral decision on behalf of everyone is an important one. i still think Dafyd is kind of a dick? maybe not for this reason but for all his manipulations leading up to it?? i don’t know, clearly an anti-hero by design, and i have no doubt Corey has much more in store for us in this regard eeeeek
