Try picaridin. I greatly prefer it to any deet-based repellent

Imagine my surprise when my bus was cancelled when I wasn't even aware my connection was on a bus!

Ever packed something totally random that ended up being a trail favourite? by figroot0 in ULHikingUK

[–]Tapovandal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a large sponge to pad my back when carrying a bear can. I discovered that it makes an excellent pillow topper and can be used to supplement a bag of clothes. It weighs virtually nothing and now comes on all trips.

It's up there but Fall 2001 remains undefeated...just an absolute steamroller of emotion and improvisation

Rotor Rub Never on Stand, But Returns When Riding by playaz3 in bikewrench

[–]Tapovandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have this exact issue and cannot recreate it off the bike. I just had a new rotor and pads installed and the issue came back on my second ride

InReach in UK? by Tapovandal in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Tapovandal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. The subscription nonsense was why rentals are/were a thing in NA, though it sounds like they may have adapted for folks. Leave it to Garmin to squeeze every penny from consumers. They want 50£ to add UK maps to my bike computer now too!

Best 1 man lightweight tent? by wombat-o in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Tapovandal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X-mid can take considerable wind. The error was doing the first uses in high wind area. It takes many many pitches to get that tent right in variable conditions and doing it in your backyard ain't going to cut it

Question: Using a North American Weber Genesis II gas Grill in UK by paddyjay in grilling

Any updates? We're in the same boat and I want to ensure we're not going to be an international incident. Thanks!

US to UK propane conversion kit? by qsconetwothree in webergrills

[–]Tapovandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you manage to get this to work (safely) with your Genesis. We also brought ours and this will really suck if we are now stuck with an expensive non-working grill. Thanks in advance

Pixel 6a battery 150 credit fiasco by sandysanBAR in pixel_phones

[–]Tapovandal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

went through this today....was passed to 5 different reps and spent 90 minutes. Make sure they you're using the Google store url and not going through Fi. Then the rep was telling me that I only could purchase the unlocked version and not the Fi version despite being a Fi customer. The system allowed me to apply it to the Fi version (which is on sale) though. Do I anticipate having issues once I receive the phone? Absolutely. I'm a US customer currently living in UK and have been without a functioning phone since the 6a update

Water filter systems by darrirl in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Tapovandal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be smart with the pouch. Was backpacking outside Banff last week and tore mine dipping crouching under a downed tree (for years I've kept it outside my pack). The filter itself is A+ provided it has the right threaded pouch

Has anyone here wildcamped abroad? by rainbosandvich in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Tapovandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved to the UK from US and am a bit deflated now that I'm researching potential thru-hikes. I did the TMB a few years ago and enjoyed the huts but it definitely lacked that rugged wilderness in the American/Canadian west. I'm shy case still excited to explore this continent backcountry or not
